Chapter 101: Reporting live from the scene Chapter 101: Reporting live from the scene Mark clenched his fists and looked Alice in the eye.
“I will fight alongside you this time.
So, do not push me to the sidelines.” The wind blew, the ominous energy of the red gate spread and the silence between them deepened and became quite cold.
Alice stared into Mark’s determined eyes and then looked away, rubbing the back of her neck.
“You always want to play the hero, huh.” She muttered and looked at him.
“Well, if that’s your choice, do whatever you want.
But I don’t look back when I swing my hammer, so please…” She stepped closer to him and leaned in to whisper.
“…don’t die.” She moved away and smiled.
Mark did not know if to take this as her asking her personal chef not to die because he was a great help when it came to filling her stomach, or if she was asking him, Mark, not to die because he was her close confidant.
Her guardian.
Well -he shut his eyes, pleased- whichever it was, he was okay with it.
He smiled.
“Yes, I will try my best.” Devon sighed and folded his arms.
He looked at Alice with a little troubled look on his face and then shut his eyes.
This red gate…
He could feel it so ominously that it worried him for some reason.
“Miss Alice,” He called and Alice turned to him.
“The area has been evacuated, and there are no civilians, but if possible, can we finish this without destroying the buildings?” Alice tilted her head.
He was worried about the buildings?
She looked around.
They weren’t in a shopping district but there were quite a lot of stores nearby and then the houses that small families lived in.
Hmm, this would be tricky.
“Then, how do we take the fight somewhere else?
Because I don’t think I’ll be able to avoid smashing a monster towards a building.
Especially that ridiculously tall one?” She pointed at the skyscraper behind her and he sighed once more.
“Miss Alice, that’s 50 kilometers away.
How is the fight going to get that far?” He asked, prompting her to shrug and dart her eyes away.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Besides, we don’t know the kind of monsters that are coming out of the gate.
I was just saying.” She looked carefree and didn’t care that there was actually a red gate in front of her.

Like…
She was so confident that she could kill any monster that walked out and didn’t even care if the buildings got destroyed.
Yes, killing the monsters was the priority but…
If they ended up destroying the houses and stores of those who were already finding it hard to go by their daily activities.
Then, helicopter sounds approached, and they looked up to see a TV helicopter approaching with the newscaster leaning out of it to take a close view of the scene.
“Reporting live from the scene.
There are two gates in my line of sight.
I repeat, two gates.
A red and blue gate.
There seem to be awakeneds gathered at this scene already, so folks, hold on to your horses because they aren’t taking us by surprise this time.
This is Musa Reeve, live from the location of the gate break and I bring to you the latest update.
Stay tuned.” Yeah, reporters wouldn’t waste time to cover this amazing story.
They were probably on the news now, right?
Alice looked away, not wanting to show her face on TV.
She just didn’t like it.
And if they got on her nerves, she just might break their camera.
“What the hell are they doing here?” She grumbled and they noticed she was annoyed.
“Media coverage is very common at a gate scene.” Mark explained.
“It’s how they assure the people that the danger is being taken care of and that there’s nothing to be afraid of.” Alice rolled her eyes.
They would still be scared, wouldn’t they?
If the gate broke, then the monsters would troupe out, and the people watching TV would watch as the monsters ripped people apart.
Wasn’t that scary?
“But I feel they’ll be a burden.” Alice said.
“What if a monster flew out and targeted them?
Would we have to leave what we’re doing to protect them?
Because they show the people hope?” ‘Miss Alice is worrying again.’ Devon thought and Alice felt she knew what he was thinking.
“I’m not saying this for their sake, okay?” She said, throwing her face away.
“I just want to get this over with.” She declared.
‘I’m supposed to be in bed by now.’ But they wouldn’t believe her even if she said that.
They thought she was thinking of others but that was not true.
How to rip off the heroic image they had of her in their minds?
She wondered.
*Just leave them be.* Leo said.
*They’ll just remain stubborn.
Instead, focus on what’s in front of you.* ‘Can’t it just break already?
I’m tired of waiting.’ *Why don’t you go in and take care of it instead?* Leo suggested and she rolled her eyes.
“Please, as if I’d want to stay in a gate for another four months.” She spoke out loud, alerting them and as they turned sharply to her, she pursed her lips, realizing she had spoken out of her thoughts again.
“Ah, don’t mind me.” She said, but they had their concerns written on their faces.
They felt Alice was having thoughts of going into the gate again.
Or…
Was it the voice telling her to do so?
Mark clenched his fists.
Who or what exactly was in her head?
It was the same voice that told her to go into the red gate during the calamity.
Was it asking her to go in again?
‘Leo, let’s not have this conversation.’ Alice replied.
‘I don’t want to go in and then come out a few months later.
Plus, they won’t even let me step close.
Can’t you see?’ They were both standing on alert.
It would look like they were getting ready to face the gate but it wasn’t just that.
They wanted to be on alert in case Alice wanted to pull a fast one on them and dash toward the gate.
‘Hm, am I so untrustworthy?’ she asked, dropping her hands on her hips.
‘But oh well, this just gives me enough reason not to go in, see?’ They were waiting for the gate to break but also for the agency to come forward and assess the danger level of each gate.
Yes, it was already seen as a red gate and extremely dangerous for anyone below ranks, but they needed to know if it was S, SS, SSS, or an immeasurable gate like the one Alice had cleared.
No one wanted that.
If it was a gate of that level then didn’t that mean it was another calamity?
“Hey,” Alice called, placing her hands on their shoulders.
But it was just a simple pat as she removed her hand right after she got their attention.
“Don’t fret.” She said and smiled.
“It’s not immeasurable.
I know the shit I faced in that gate and the energy from this situation is far more inferior, plus I doubt they will have time to create such a calamity in a short time.” “They?” Devon asked but she brushed it aside, as she had no plans to explain that.
“So, don’t worry.
If anything comes out of that gate and it’s too much for you guys to handle,” she beat her chest with her right hand and her lips curved up in a confident and wide smirk.
“I’ll take care of it just fine.
So, count on me.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Wow, that’s very so…
unlike her, hehe
