Chapter 108: Did he really plan to start a fight with Devon?
“Is Alice back yet?” Mark asked, amid the turmoil and chaos but Devon, flying through the air to slice apart the crimson griffin that was headed their way, decided they should worry about themselves.
“If you didn’t keep your head straight then you may never see Miss Alice.” He yelled back at him, swatting the blood away from his sword.
He looked down at Mark while standing on top of the Griffin’s corpse.
“You said you wanted to fight next to her, right?
You didn’t want to be her burden.
So, do yourself a favor and sharpen up.
You can’t get distracted on the field because you adore her.
You’ll get yourself killed.” He scolded Mark.
“I never said anything about adoration.” Mark retorted, the good chain hidden in his shirt glowing.
“And yes, I do not want to be her burden.
But I cannot concentrate unless she is in my line of sight.” Devon squinted his eyes and then said, “Then go ahead and get yourself killed.
I will do well to mourn you while standing next to Miss Alice.” He taunted Mark which got him enraged.
Devon knew what he was doing.
For someone with talented stats like Mark to be referred to as ‘useless’ then there had to be a reason.
He had the power but just didn’t use it.
Maybe if he could taunt him, get him angered, and force him to fight, then they would be done with the monsters in no time.
“What did you say?” Mark’s eyes raged, as he pulled his chain and it enlarged into a lightning chain for a weapon.
-Or he could just attack him and slow down the progress because he was letting his jealousy get the best of him.
“Are you going to fight me?” Devon asked, pointing his sword at him.
“When we’re in the middle of this chaos?” More monsters poured out of the gates and the awakeneds were barely holding on.
To think the blue gate would turn into a red gate at the last minute.
An unexpected phenomenon.
At this rate, the weaker ones would get wiped out.
“I don’t have time for you.” Devon said and lowered his sword.
“Think whatever you want and feel whatever you want, but let me tell you.
You can only be of help to your precious ward, Miss Alice, if you contribute a great deal in this fight.
The only way you can care for her is to help lessen her load.” He turned around and his coat that was hanging on his shoulder flapped with the wind.
Mark lowered his gaze and then palmed his face.

What was he about to do?
Did he really plan to start a fight with Devon?
Over such little provocation?
With Devon?
An S-class?
Was he crazy?
Just what was happening to him?
Why were his emotions so out of control?
Just then, a loud shriek thundered over the sky, causing the ground to rumble and the sky to turn red.
“More monsters are coming out of the gate.” Someone yelled and from the gate on the rooftop, an eclipse dragon flew out.
It soared the sky, letting its loud shriek rain down terror in the hearts of the awakeneds.
They were scared and almost couldn’t move their bodies.
They were fighting a battle they could not win.
They thought.
That massive flying creature…
Who could take it on?
The eclipse dragon landed on the roof, let out a loud shriek once more and then got ready to shoot out its beam of death.
Devon saw this and yelled, “Get down everyone.
Don’t get hit by the blast.” But how were they going to avoid a blast from such a huge eclipse dragon?
The monsters were getting the upper hand in their frightened state and everything was going down in a huge mess.
Devon tried to kill as many as he could while his people found a way to clear from the dragon’s path.
It was chaos.
How were they going to escape this?
And to think he was worried about the buildings.
Ah, there was no helping it.
He had to think of the people who were alive, rather than the buildings.
He could use the last resort and teleport the beam to a different location.
Maybe one of those desolate lands that had been declared a red zone.
Red zones were lands that had been completely dominated by monsters.
And from time to time, awakeneds were assigned to go clear the monsters, as much as they could and return.
It was no use risking lives for lands that had become a monster inhabitant.
So, if he could transfer the beam to that desolate land, but that would take a lot from him.
During that time, they’d have to use all they had to distract the dragon from gathering another beam.
But…
He glanced around at his helpless subordinate, some injured, some dead, some still struggling to fight against the crimson griffins…
Could they do it?
He shut his eyes for a moment.
It was times like this that he was glad he was given the kind of power he had.
He would do all it took to take care of this first blast and then summon one of his deadly skills.
No matter what, he wouldn’t give up.
Mark stared in horror.
It looked bigger than the one Alice had killed before.
Its rocky body looked like it had been hardened tenfold, and its wings were bigger too.
It was three times bigger than the hydra that was used to compare its size back then.
It could…
Destroy that part of the world with its beam.
The eclipse dragon got ready to shoot its beam and destroy everything in its path and Devon got ready to teleport the beam away.
He would usually need to make contact but he could still do it without making contact.
He was sweating in anxiety, hoping he would be able to handle the entire beam.
If even the slightest got out of his reach then it was over for them.
The eclipse dragon, with its mouth wide open and a dark ball of death, as big as the moon and even bigger than its own head, got ready to annihilate the humans, but unfortunately for it, it never got to release it.
Like a shooting star, Alice shot across the sky and stopped right above him, staring at the dark beam that could envelop the entire city.
Thanks to having gravity at her disposal, she could practically fly if she wanted to.
“Well, that’s not good.” She said.
Her right eye glowed blue, and she stretched her hands her jacket flapping softly.
“Ah, I think this is a perfect opponent to test out my gravity force to its fullest.
Don’t you think so, Leo?” *Just focus and get the job done.
You know we’re late because you had to stop by a fast food joint.
You’re so unserious, really.* Leo said with a disappointed tone.
Just as Leo said, Alice had actually stopped at a fast food joint and picked up the few fried chicken that were going to waste thanks to the sudden evacuation.
Ah, she decided to take a quick snack and that was why they were so late.
“You know I’m going against a mighty foe, so I needed to refill.” *Just do it already.* Leo rushed her and she grinned.
“Got it.” Her eyes glowed and she activated her gravity force…
To the max.
