- Chapter 112 - Chapter 112 They had families and even laid eggs
Chapter 112: They had families and even laid eggs Chapter 112: They had families and even laid eggs (Brief introduction of a grifflet, a baby griffin.
You know how tiger cubs are, right, imagine a red tiger cub but with the head of an eagle.
It fits its body well, so don’t worry.
It also has tiny soft wings shooting out of its back.
With time, it’ll become strong, big, and steel.
That’s a crimson grifflet.
I’ll update the character images so you’ll get a good look at it, k?

After all that, she still didn’t break a single sweat.
“Whew, and we’re done here, right?” She asked but Leo wasn’t so sure.
*Check the gate.
See what the griffin was trying to protect.* He said and she rolled her eyes.
However, she still went to check it anyway.
She approached the gate, stood in front of it, and observed it carefully.
“Are you saying I have to go in?” *It’s not like you can find anything just by using your third eye from out here.
So yes, you have to go in.* He pointed out and she sighed.
She walked in and the stench of demons hit her nose hard.
She had to cover her nose while looking like she would gag.
The entire place was also eroded, and what would’ve looked like a sun-filled forest looked like the land of the dead.
Dark and eerie.
“Just what in the…?
What happened here?” She walked in further, trying to find signs of life.
Ah, it was even more creepy that there were griffin corpses on the floor.
Was there a battle?
It all looked…
Gruesome.
*Alice, look over there.
There is sign of life.* She made her way further, towards a withered tree, and heard a little cry.
She walked closer and saw that the demonic energy was thicker around there.
A vine made of demonic blood trapping a little griffin.

It was a grifflet that looked like a cub.
It looked so small, so fragile, and was in tears, crying with its little chicky voice.
It was in pain and scared.
Alice watched it writ in fear and her heart melted for the little guy.
Why was it being put through this?
*It seems the griffin did have something it was protecting.* Leo said but Alice’s mind was far off, staring at the poor thing that was caught in this struggle involuntarily.
*And it would also seem it was made to do what it did with its chick on the line.* “Hey, Leo, I was wondering.” *Hm?* “These monsters…
Do they really want to destroy humanity?” She asked, her eyes looking devoid of any emotions as she stared at the suffering chick.
*What do you mean?* “Well, I don’t know.
It just seems like they’re taking the route that’s in front of them.
They’re wild monsters, so of course, they would be hostile towards humans and would want to kill them.
But…” She lowered her head, looking at the grifflet with a pitiful gaze.
“…if they had a choice, do you think they would want to fight or rampage as they did?” *…* She thought of this after checking the thirtieth floor in the calamity gate.
The crimson griffins didn’t look like monsters who were out to destroy humanity.
They looked like regular animals in fact, if you look past their wings that were made of steel.
They had families and even laid eggs.
So, were they forced to fight in this battle?
Yeah, she did kill them but just as they had no choice, she also had no choice.
Alice bent down and grabbed the demonic vines.
It eroded her skin but she did not care.
She snapped the vines and picked up the grifflet.
She stared at it with eyes filled with pity and sentiment.
*Did you change your mind?* Leo asked with a taunting tone.
“Shut it.
How do you expect me to ignore it after seeing this?” She held the grifflet in her arms and it yawned.
It was…
Cute.
After leaving that demonic vine trap, it finally fell at ease and could finally sleep.
She watched it closely.
Why did it look so adorable?
It was basically a chick, looking like a cub but…
She felt for it.
“Leo, is there something you’re not telling me?” Alice suddenly asked.
*I believe there are a lot of things I haven’t told you.* He said.
*After all, I can’t risk blowing your head with excessive information after we’ve come this far.* “No, not that.
I mean,” she calmed down and spoke lightly.
“…is there a secret about the monsters and demons I don’t know of?
Like a manipulation plot?” *…* Alice waited for him.
He had to say something.
He had to explain to her why a baby griffin was held hostage by demonic vines, why there were corpses in this land that no human had stepped foot on and why the demons were using monsters and strengthening them for their dirty cause.
*Alice, in a war, does the king stand in front?* Leo suddenly asked.
“Hm?
What do you mean?” *A king wants to conquer the next kingdom.
And to do that, he needs knights.
He may have his outstanding knights but just them aren’t enough.
So, they go for the citizens.
The poor, weak, and unfortunate souls who only want to live in peace will have no choice but to leave their homes, join the king’s army, and go off to fight a war they never wanted.* He explained.
*And if they resist, if they don’t want to be a part of the war, they will have to forfeit their rights as citizens.
They will be prosecuted by the king’s men, they will be threatened, and they will be killed.
Resistance is futile.
You either go along with the king’s plans or run away.
But not everyone is lucky enough to flee successfully.* Alice felt a lump in her throat and she gulped it down.
She understood his words too well.
This was Leo’s way of telling her that the monsters, even if they never wanted this war, they have no choice but to do as the demons want.
The demons who move under the crooked beings are the knights, and the crooked beings, in this context, represent the king.
The monsters, though fierce and violent, do not want to fight for hierarchy.
They want to stay in their domain, but they have no choice but to do as the crooked beings want.
And resistance?
Alice looked around, the corpse and even this chick that almost fell victim.
“It’s all futile.” She muttered.
To think the gruesome monsters have no choice but to inflict harm on the lives of humans.
It was actually pitiful.
But that didn’t mean she would stop killing them.
As long as they were a threat, they needed to disappear.
Just as they have no choice, humans also have no choice but to protect their lives as their home.
She looked down at the chick and touched its beak.
At least she could spare one of them from this cruel fate.
She smiled softly.
“I’ll keep it.” She said.
“I’ll keep the grifflet.” *I’m glad you made the right choice.* Leo said.
*And now, for the rewards…* “Leo!” Alice called all of a sudden, her eyes widened in surprise.
*What is it?* He asked, wondering if they were suddenly getting attacked but it was nothing like that.
What she said next surprised him.
“You…
Leo?
Leo, I can see you.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Yay!
