- Chapter 115 - Chapter 115 He took in a deep breath
Chapter 115: He took in a deep breath Chapter 115: He took in a deep breath “So, gramps, when are you gonna invite me for dinner?” Alice asked and Adolf chuckled.
“I believe I saw this coming.” He said, smiling at the little foodie in front of him.
“These things never get past you, huh?” He snapped his fingers.
Marcus stepped forward and gave her another card with his house address on it.
“How’s Sunday evening?” He asked.
“My grandson will be present, so I’ll use the opportunity to introduce you two.” Alice snatched the card from Marcus, looked at it, and said, “Sounds great.” She didn’t care who would be present.
As long as there was enough food, she didn’t mind.
But she had her favorite in mind.
“I fancy chicken a lot.” “What was that?” Adolf asked and she raised her head, smiling sheepishly.
“I fancy chicken a lot.
So, if the main menu could have lots and lots of chicken then I’d be glad.” She said, and Adolf nodded.
“I understand,” “And when will you drop the formalities, gramps?” She asked.
“I mean, I’m old enough to be your granddaughter, so let’s stop with the ‘Miss’.” “It’s not a big deal.
I just prefer formalities with my acquaintances.” Adolf said and then ruffled her hair.
“But if this young lady wants me to drop it, I do not mind.
Now, be on your way, Alice.
I will see you on Sunday.” She smiled but she was not done yet.
She couldn’t leave yet.
She remembered she had to drop off the healing potions.
She’d like to believe that part of this break was her fault and the other part was the fucking crooked beings who just couldn’t take a seat, get popcorn and watch a nonviolent show.
Sheesh, why was violence on their agenda?
Anyway, if she had not passed to grab the fried chicken that had caught her eye, maybe the casualties would’ve been reduced.
But she wouldn’t beat herself too much for it.
They were the ones who decided to walk this path, so they at least needed to know that it was not smooth sailing.
“I need to do something, gramps.” She said, suddenly floating into the air.
She waved at him.
“I’ll see you soon.” She dashed away.
Adolf watched her and then closed his eyes, nodding to himself.
“She’s such a good girl.” He exclaimed.
Marcus looked at the chairman quite confused.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
What part of her was a good girl?
He wondered.
If anything, she was out of control.
So, what did the chairman see in this young girl that he was going easy on her?
He would never know.
Adolf turned his gaze to the red crackling gate on the rooftop and frowned.
“Get the specialists to start the analysis.
I want no surprises.” “Yes, chairman.” Devon was trying to push back the reporters.
He had had enough.
His subordinates were injured and needed care, he didn’t have time to humor their questions.
“I’d like to ask everyone to step back.” He said, and they all went silent, only whispering amongst themselves.
“This is a danger zone and there are people who need treatment.
If you want to get a scoop, then wait till the injured have been taken care of and the monsters have been cleared.” But the reporters were adamant.
It was a battle of who would get the first Intel from the awakeneds at the scene.
They contemplated, eyeing their competitors.
If they happened to back down and another took the chance to shove a question at this S-class awakened, then they would lose out.
Thus, none of them wanted to back down.
Devon was gradually growing angry.
How could they be so self-centered, selfish to the core, and not see the suffering of others, only seeing what they would gain from being persistent?
Ah, it seemed like he had given them quite the soft impression, and that was why they felt they could do anything in his presence, and he wouldn’t try to push past them.
If it were Justin, they wouldn’t be able to step this close without his permission.
They were shameless but they still cared for their lives.
At least, most of them.
Some reporters would die to be the first to get a scoop.
Vanity.
He sighed and wanted to simply teleport them out of there, maybe land them a few miles away from the scene, even though he would end up using up a lot of mana since he couldn’t come in contact with every single one and teleport them the same time.
He took in a deep breath.
But as he raised his hand, someone caught his hand from above and lifted him.
Stunned, he raised his head only to find Alice shaking her head at him.
“Oh, Devon, you’re just too soft.” She said.
“Humans don’t deserve your consideration.” Devon, at that moment, was actually beyond stunned.
From below, as she lifted him high into the sky by his hand, he could see her in a different light.
She was always shining.
His eyes held a glint as he stared at her, who was fearless and always at ease.
“Hold on, I’m going to drop you soon.” She said, flying away from the reporter’s eyes, and though they wanted to follow, they could not exactly catch up with someone who was moving with the wind.
“Where do you want to go?” Devon asked and she looked down at him.
“Where are your guild members?” She asked and he nodded.
He snapped his fingers and they both teleported towards where the guild members were gathered.
Alice’s eyes widened.
They were so badly hurt.
Most of them had lost a limb or two.
They were suffering, and the mid-level potions they had, as well as the healing mages, weren’t efficient in the slightest.
If things persisted, their conditions would only grow worse.
She looked at Devon who looked at his guild members with that remorseful expression a responsible person would have when they saw the people they were responsible for hurting.
He was clenching his gloved fists so tightly that she was sure he would rip past the glove and actually dig his nails in his palm.
It was that bad.
He probably felt he had failed as their guild master, since he couldn’t even protect them.
This situation was actually inevitable since no one knew the blue gate would suddenly become red.
If they knew, then they would’ve gathered more powerful forces.
Alice threw her face to the side.
Maybe she should’ve thought of this before taking any other action.
She was careless this time.
She thought, but it was not enough for guilt to eat her up.
Where there’s a problem, there’s always a solution.
She took his hand, easing his clenched fists and prompting him to look down at her.
“Devon, come over here for a minute.” She led him by his hand and he stared at her hand.
Where was she taking him?
And why was she holding him like that?
He stared at the back of her head, the confidence she was still exuding even at a time like this.
Did she have a solution?
He sure hoped so.
He hoped she had a way out of this.
Alice glanced over her shoulder, knowing he had been staring with a worried expression on his face, agitated and concerned.
She needed to help him ease that expression that was ruining his handsome face.
She said, “Don’t worry.
They’re going to be fine.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Okay, some progress, my readers.
