Chapter 118: Did you do it in front of him?
Chapter 118: Did you do it in front of him?
Alice, who didn’t even know that her expression had turned sour and heavy, heard her heartbeat quite clearly while enveloped in Devon’s arms.
“It’s okay.” He said softly and that simple phrase had her grabbing his back, hugging him, and letting go of the hardness in her heart with the comfort of his embrace.
That ‘heart tug’ that felt like a string in her heart had been pulled; the one that reminded her how heavy the burden of being left behind, even if she had no memories of them- was lifted.
She didn’t know how but it did.
They say, ‘The heart never forgets.’ So, even with no memories in her head, her heart had more than enough memories to remind her of pain, misery, and love.
She could feel it, even if she could not see it.
And that was making her soft.
Gradually…
She was doing things that she normally wouldn’t and was acting in ways that she never knew she would.
“Are you feeling better?” Devon asked and she nodded, “Yeah,” “Then, should we get going?” He asked, no longer bringing up the topic of ‘life’ with her.
He already placed it at the back of his mind and if a time like that were to come, he would not hesitate.
He just knew he wouldn’t hesitate.
It was like…
The right thing to do.
His little sacrifice so that the world’s strongest could continue living and fight the fight he knew he could never win.
“Yeah,” she mumbled a response but stayed still and Devon, taking a few seconds to wait if she would move or something, asked, “You’d have to let go of me first if we want to go, Alice.” He said, taking out the formality and her eyes widened.
She realized she was still hugging him but her hands didn’t want to go loose.
She had enjoyed the comfort of his hug way too much.
“Oh no, am I getting addicted to this?” She mumbled to herself and he laughed, dropping his hand on her head to pat her.
“Hugs can be rather addictive.
Because of the comfort.” He said, slowly stroking her hair.
“If you want a hug, I can happily give it to you but for now, we have other things to do.
So, we can’t stay like this for much longer.” “Oh, right.” But just as she was about to free her hands, Mark walked in.
He saw Alice in Devon’s arms.
No, more like Alice had her arms around Devon while Devon was smiling at her with that ‘seducing’ smile of his.
What in the world…?
What were they doing?
“Oh, it’s Mark,” Alice said, casually taking her hands down as she had originally planned to do before he walked in.

“Could you come over for a moment?
We’ll need help carrying these things.” She said, but Mark’s eyes were fixed on Devon, who wouldn’t take his eyes off Alice for even a single second.
Just what happened between them?
And what was with that look in his eyes?
He tore his gaze from Devon and to the table that was filled with elixirs and healing potions.
Wait, did Alice bring all that from her ring?
“Did you do it in front of him?” Mark suddenly asked and Alice looked up at him.
“Did you show him your ring’s function?” Devon slowly turned his head to Mark, his eyes not so soft and warm as they were when he stared at Alice.
“Uh, yeah.
I did.” Alice answered, “But don’t worry, Devon is a good guy so he won’t spread any rumors or tell anyone.
I trust him.” Mark felt his heart fall as he heard Alice say she trusted Devon.
Ah, it was heavy.
How could she trust him so easily?
They had only met a few times and, and…
He didn’t know anything about her.
He was basically a stranger who had helped them a few times.
So, how could she trust him so easily?
Devon watched Mark’s expression, which looked like he had suffered a heavy blow in the heart.
He glanced at Alice who was busy sorting out the potions and elixirs, then back to him, his eyes narrowed and his lip slightly curled up.
Mark saw this and felt like Devon was looking down on him.
What was the meaning of that smirk and the way he was looking at him, if not that?
“Why are you two wasting time?” Alice asked, breaking them from their silent war.
“I lost track of time again.
Come, carry these.” She shoved a few of the potions to Devon’s chest.
He did his best to hold on to them so neither would fall.
“And you too.” She shoved a few more to Mark’s chest, who equally tried to hold on tight.
She picked up a few more and topped the ones that were in their arms.
She wasn’t going to do any dirty work besides this.
“So,” she dusted her hands together.
“I guess that’s it.
Now, go ahead and save lives.
I…
I’ll head back to the house.
I’m tired.” She was both physically and emotionally tired.
Feelings from her past life that she surely couldn’t understand were creeping up her heart.
She could understand the part where she felt pain from being left behind, but there was another emotion besides that that she was not very familiar with.
She would ask Leo, but first, she had to get away from Devon, who was making her heart race even then.
“Alright, I’ll see you.” She wanted to turn and leave when Mark called out.
“Alice,” she turned her head to look at him.
“The door’s probably been fixed by now and the code isn’t set yet.
So, please set the lock code to avoid strange people walking in all willy nilly.” He said, his eyes traveling to Devon for some reason.
“Oh, not a big deal.
Tell me, what was the old passcode?
I’ll just use that.” She said but he rolled his eyes down.
“It…” He shut his eyes and then opened them, saying, “It’s not relevant.
Come up with something new.” Alice nodded.
Well, if it was okay with him.
“Then, I’m going to use something simple.
When you get back, you can think of something more complex.
I’m too tired to think right now.” She said and he nodded.
Alice glanced at Devon, who smiled at her, and she smiled back.
“I hope your guild members recover very fast.” “Yes, with this, they have nothing to worry about.
Thank you.” They all walked out and watched Alice leave in the blink of an eye.
She did not waste a single moment and left before anything else could keep her there.
Mark and Devon watched the sky where she had disappeared into and then Devon lowered his head, walking ahead to where his guild members were gathered.
But as he walked forward, Mark dropped his gaze from the sky and called out, “Devon Snow, did you ask Alice to give you her precious elixirs?” He asked and Devon paused.
“No,” he gave a simple response.
He didn’t argue or try to explain why she gave them to him because he didn’t understand either.
She initially wanted to give them to him for free, without asking for anything in return.
He thought he was selfless and had a good heart but compared to her selfless actions that evening and all the things she had done so far…
he was nothing.
And this, he couldn’t understand her good heart.
“I didn’t ask for any of it.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Okay, I dont know if Mark’s reactions are down to Earth but someone has to point that out for me Is his jealousy rate too high or what?
