Chapter 119: Are you saying Devon and I had a thing in the past?
Mark and Devon watched the sky where Alice had disappeared into and then Devon lowered his head, walking ahead to where his guild members were gathered.
But as he walked forward, Mark dropped his gaze from the sky and called out, “Devon Snow, did you ask Alice to give you her precious elixirs?” He asked and Devon paused.
“No,” he gave a simple response.
He didn’t argue or try to explain why she gave them to him because he didn’t understand either.
She initially wanted to give them to him for free, without asking for anything in return.
He thought he was selfless and had a good heart but compared to her selfless actions that evening and all the things she had done so far…
he was nothing.
And this, he couldn’t understand her good heart.
“I didn’t ask for any of it.” He turned to Mark and added, “But don’t worry, I didn’t accept them for free either.
I could never rest easy, knowing she has done so much for me, even when I asked her not to.” He turned and started walking away again.
Mark didn’t know if to believe him.
Why would Alice suddenly take out her elixirs and potions just to heal a bunch of people she did not know?
And she also exposed the function of her ring to him.
He had told her to keep it a secret but apparently, she trusted Devon.
But that was not what this was about.
Why did she give up her elixirs and potions?
And so many of them at that.
They were all so valuable and priceless.
A single bottle could buy an entire estate.
They were not her responsibility so why go so far?
He was sure she wanted to sell them for high prices and then buy a chicken warehouse.
“Then what could you have used in exchange for this?” Mark asked.
“I don’t believe there’s anything equivalent to these.
They are practically priceless.” Devon stopped once more and looked over his shoulder, smiling as he said, “My life.” Mark flinched.
“I traded with my life.
So, from now on, Miss-” he cut himself short and lightly shook his head, remembering she asked him to no longer be formal.
“Alice…
Owns my life.” “What?!” Alice threw herself into bed and let out an exhausted sigh.

When she got back, the door had indeed been fixed.
She simply set the passcode as she told Mark she would, so when he got back, he could walk in without having to disturb her.
She stared at the pink ceiling, her mind going back to the weird emotions she was feeling while with Devon.
“Hey, Leo, can you explain now?” She asked, her eyes solely fixed on the ceiling.
“Those emotions…
What were they?” *I said I would explain the reaction of a teenage girl when a handsome guy like Devon compliments them, right?* “What does that have to do with the weird emotions I felt then!” She asked, sitting up.
“It was as if I was having a heart attack.
My heart wouldn’t stop racing and then it got warm.
After that, I felt it was being pulled painfully, reaching out for the person in front of me.” She touched her chest.
That was the exact definition of weird and she wanted to know what it was.
It sometimes happened with Mark but it was far more serious with Devon.
Was it because of his charms?
“I mean, Mark doesn’t look too bad.
He’s also quite the handsome guy.
But he just lacks several emotions in his face.” She said.
*It’s not that difficult to understand, honestly.* Leo said.
*When you feel your heart being pulled painfully when you feel excited, you feel warm and comfortable in their arms, when you look at their smile and your heart skips a beat, it’s quite simple, honestly.* “Then explain to me this ‘simple’ something.” She demanded and he proceeded to explain things from what happened in her past life, hoping she wouldn’t face any damage from it.
*In your past life, you held feelings for several.* He said.
*I won’t say much but I believe your feelings right now might be creeping out from the feelings you had in your other life.* “And what are these ‘feelings’ you speak of?” She asked, urging him to get to the point already.
*Love.* He answered.
*You loved way more than you could ever handle.
One could think you had just too much love to give and a big heart that just wanted to be occupied.* As soon as he said this, the words played in her head again, the words Devon had said, ‘I won’t hesitate to put my life on the line.’ Was what he said and the words someone had said to her before.
Someone who smiled just as warmly and looked at her with eyes that…
She just couldn’t explain.
Her nose started bleeding, trying to force out the image of this man, but each time, they were shrouded, and all she could see was Devon smiling at her.
She must’ve been mistaking it since he was the one with her then.
Since he was the one who said it to her a few minutes ago.
*It’s not a mistake.* Leo suddenly said.
*Like I said, you held feelings for many and though I’d like to think it was because you were lonely and always losing people, I do know that your feelings were genuine each and every time.
And because of that, you feel this love creeping into your heart once more when you look into the gaze of the man you used to love.* “Wait, hold on.
Are you saying Devon and I had a thing in the past?” She asked, wiping her bloody nose with the wipe that happened to be next to her bedside.
*Not just him.* Leo said.
He shouldn’t be exposing these things like this but he wanted her to understand.
Whatever feelings she was feeling now, they were feelings the past her nurtured, so she didn’t have to worry about them.
Somehow they weren’t hers.
So, she had no obligation to like them just as she liked them in her past.
*You also fell for Mark.* He said and her eyes widened.
He was kidding, right?
So, he was saying she had connections with them even in her past?
But even with all that, she ended up losing them?
She was left behind by them?
*You had a heavy responsibility on your shoulders and they all wanted to see you succeed.
Whether it was to give up their lives so you could continue living, or throw themselves in the monster’s mouth, they would do anything for you.
And not just for the world, but for you to survive and see the end of it.* He explained.
*And because of that, you had a deep attachment to the world.
Not like now when you care for nothing.
Back then…
You had way too many people in your heart, loved, lost, cried…
So many things happened to you and those memories…
You didn’t want to live on as the last human with those memories and all alone.
And so…
You used your reward and made a wish.* “Blegh!” Alice practically vomited blood.
She had suppressed it for so long, just so she could hear the whole of what Leo had to say and as a result, her insides started bleeding.
Her eyes were bleeding and so were her ears.
She loved, lost, and cried?
Just how did she live?
So, if Leo hadn’t approached her.
If he hadn’t given her this power…
If she hadn’t been arrested, she would’ve walked down this path only to end up being lonely?
Honestly, she couldn’t see herself experiencing any of this.
It was all so foreign to her.
Love?
That complex and scary context?
She just couldn’t imagine it.
“I’m fine.” She said, lifting her head and heaving.
She cleaned her mouth with her sleeve and asked, “You said I ended up becoming an awakened.
Did it all start because of that?” She asked.
*Did what start?* “Those emotions you said I experienced.
Love?
Pain?
Tears?
Laughter?
I can’t imagine that I was able to experience that even though I had not been liberated early like how it is in this life.” She explained and pursed her lips hard.
Her insides were burning and her head was spinning.
“The reason why I changed so much must’ve been the trigger of my awakening, right?
So tell me what it was.” *…* He could tell her body was ripping from the inside.
Any more and she just might fall unconscious.
Maybe she knew, that was why she wanted him to spill it all in one go.
She didn’t want to experience this pain any time soon again, so this time, she wanted to hear just enough to make her pass out.
Until next time.
“Not just the awakening contributed to your change.” He said.
“But…
The trigger for your awakening was indeed what facilitated all your change.
Because each time it happened, you gained a new reason to carry on.
A new reason to put on a mask.” Alice’s eyes were spinning.
She felt she would pass out any moment from them.
Ah, how long had it been since she felt pain like that?
The penalty was cruel.
*What triggered your awakening was…
Diane’s death.* He said, and her head felt like it was breaking.
It was like a loud siren ringing directly in her ear and she grabbed her head, as if pressing it would get rid of the pain.
This was the price she had to pay for knowing too much than she could handle.
But…
Her awakened was triggered by Diane’s death?
Just what…
What sort of shitty thing happened that Diane had to die?
With that, she fell unconscious.
