- Chapter 121 - Chapter 121 She was too late
Chapter 121: She was too late Chapter 121: She was too late When Alice got to the den, she realized that most of Big Stach’s men had gone out and Big Stach went out with them.
They drove the expensive cars they usually kept hidden, and only used when Big Stach wanted to go on events.
“Wait, if Big Stach went out, then doesn’t this mean he won’t be able to taste Diane tonight?” She thought, feeling excited.
This meant they could escape without them finding out.
This was great.
She rushed to pack up necessities and then ran back out.
But when she got to the Mart, she couldn’t find Diane.
There were a few people seated there and she asked, “Excuse me?
Did you see my friend?
She was wearing her hair in a bun.” She explained, describing with her hands.
“Ah, she just left.” The guy she had asked said.
“A few fancy cars were driving past and then one stopped in front of her.
I don’t know what they were saying, but she walked in with them, and they left.” Alice’s heart fell.
Fancy cars?
Wasn’t that Big Stach’s entourage?
Oh, God, no!
It couldn’t be.
She looked forward and then back.
Which path did they take?
“They went that way.” The guy said, pointing straight ahead after noticing her troubled expression.
“About ten minutes ago.” Alice started running.
Yeah, she was confident in her speed and thankfully, the things she carried were not heavy and could not slow her down.
But as she ran, she asked herself, what would she do as soon as she caught up to them?
Would she challenge them?
But she was a normal human.
How was she going to challenge the awakeneds?
How?
But even while asking this question in her heart, her feet kept running.
She wanted to save Diane, no matter what she had to do.
Even if she died trying, she would persevere And then, the guilty feelings started creeping up her heart.

She shouldn’t have asked Diane to wait there for her.
Maybe if they both went to the den, Big Stach’s entourage would’ve passed and saw no reason to stop.
They recognized her.
Was it Jack?
Oh, what had she done?
She…
She…
Her heart was pained.
She stopped as she came across a cross junction, her feet screeching on the ground.
Now, which direction did they go in?
She frantically looked around and found an old man with a newspaper in his hand.
He was on the last page.
If he read the whole thing, didn’t that mean he was here when the entourage drove past?
“Um, excuse me, sir.” She called out and he lowered his papers.
“Yes, may I help you?” “Okay, so there was this fleet of shiny cars.
Could you point me in the direction they went?” The old man gave one long hard look at her and then said, “They went that way.” He turned his head in the direction.
“They were so loud that I couldn’t even focus on my papers.
So annoying.” Alice nodded.
“Thank you.” She yelled and ran in that direction.
She had no idea where they were going but she felt she would have a clue the closer she got.
And truly, she did have a clue.
They went to a casino.
A very famous and expensive casino.
They took Diane in there with them?
The view started scratching.
Alice, who was simply watching from inside her past self’s body was pushed out.
“No, no.
I need to see what happened.” She said and wanted to follow her past self but there was a screen blocking her.
An invisible screen that didn’t let her see the things that happened.
And then, from behind, she heard a heavy thunder rumble.
She turned her head to the sky.
It felt like something was coming down.
Something sinister.
Something big.
But her view was changed and she landed on a scene where Alice was crying.
She was next to a pool that was dyed red with blood.
There were bodies floating on it and lying around the pool too.
It looked like a deadly fight had ensued but between who?
Alice was not an awakened and neither was Diane.
Alice was kneeling next to Diane, who was taking her sweet time to rest, as the view from an angel would seem.
“I just…
I just wished for you to live a normal life.” Diane said with a weak voice.
“Are you stupid?
It’s not like you’re my mom.” Alice scolded her.
Diane could faintly smile and say, “Well, you did say I looked like a horse’s ass.
So…” She laughed and ended up coughing.
She coughed out blood.
Alice, watching the whole thing, stepped closer.
Her eyes widened as she found a knife buried deep inside her chest.
“You’re always so reckless.” “See who’s talking.” Alice said.
“You threw yourself in a pit full of lions and in the end…” Tears whelmed up her eyes but she cleaned them up right away.
“Alice, crying…
Doesn’t make you weak.” “Just stop talking and save your strength.” Alice scolded her.
“An ambulance should be here soon.
So, just hang on.
We’ll get you treated and then we’ll leave the country.” Yet, Diane knew that wasn’t possible.
She had a knife deep inside her chest, right next to her heart.
It was already a miracle that she could still talk and breathe.
“Alice,” Diane suddenly called.
“I said shut the fuck up.
Save your fucking strength, Diane.
I’m warning you.” Alice flared at her.
It was as if she already knew.
Her hand was on Diane’s wrist so she could feel her pulse growing weaker.
But Diane, knowing the time she had left was nothing more than seconds, said the words she wished Alice would hear more than anything.
“It’s not…
Your fault.” Diane said.
“It never was, never is, and never will be.” With those words said, Diane went stiff.
Her eyes were lifeless, staring at Alice as her heart stopped beating.
Alice screamed.
She screamed and cussed and screamed some more.
“Get your fucking ass up, Diane.
I’m…” She choked on her own words.
“I’m warning you.” It was heavy on her heart, and Alice, who was watching, could feel it.
Her heartbeat accelerated in pain.
The emotions she felt back then were so vivid in her heart.
It was heavy.
So heavy that her heart would swell up in tears.
But just then, a blue window tab opened up in front of her with the words, *Congratulations, you have met the conditions to become an awakened.
Though weaker than your opponents, you managed to survive.
You have received the title, Last Man Standing.* Alice was stunned.
Was this a joke?
Of all times, it did not show itself and only gave her powers now?
After her friend was dead?
Then, the words Diane said to her, ‘It’s not your fault’, replayed in her head.
Just why was this happening to her?
And then, another notification popped up.
*Warning, the second calamity is upon you.* CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Okay, now that was tragic
