- Chapter 124 - Chapter 124 Uh
Chapter 124: Uh…
that’s good to hear Chapter 124: Uh…
that’s good to hear “Does she always take this long to think?” Miss Stella asked Mark with a little whisper.
“Or is she just in shock about what happened?
I can understand since she is a kid and…” “No, no.
That’s not it.” Mark said.
“Alice is a bit…
Different.” He glanced at Alice, his worries falling at ease since she was reverting to her usual habit.
“I believe she’ll tell you about it herself.” Miss Stella was still quite confused.
Couldn’t he tell her instead?
This was a matter of a child’s mental stability.
Well, they did say S-class awakeneds were crazy in the head, but if it’s affecting a child of 17 to the extent she starts hallucinating and having conversations in her head, then it was quite concerning.
Yet, these two didn’t seem to worry one bit.
Then, was it nothing to be worried about, to begin with?
“The reason why I threw up so much blood,” Alice finally spoke up.
“…
It was just my body expelling the rotten energy and poisonous miasma that sneaked into my system.” She said.
“Miasma?” “Ah, you didn’t know, but I walked into the gate that had turned from blue to red, and inside was filled with thick fog of miasma.
It was poisonous and though it did not harm me then and even after I walked out if it stayed in my body for much longer, it would only deal damage to my mana core and the likes.” She explained and smiled.
“And that’s why you couldn’t find anything wrong with me.
So, I’m perfectly fine.” They stayed silent, staring at her.
It did sound reasonable but why did it feel like it was the kind of excuse a child would give to get themselves out of any sticky situation?
Miss Stella sighed and said, “That’s a relief.” She took Alice’s hand and then tilted her glasses.
“I was really worried about you.” “Uh,” Alice was searching for a response and came up with one.
“…thank you for worrying.” She said, and it made Miss Stella feel elated.
Alice raised her gaze and looked at Devon once more.
He looked just like the Devon from her dreams.
That’s to say…
He was still the same kind and caring person who would reach out his hand to a stranger.
Was that why she fell for him?

She wondered.
He might’ve actually been the first guy to actually look at her and not have deceit or worldly thoughts for her.
The first guy to smile with sincerity and say such nice words.
And even in this life…
He had been the first one to show her that kind of care.
He rebuked Justin on her behalf and carried her.
Even though she ended up in jail, it was still filled with comfort and his concerns reached her.
She lowered her head slowly, thinking of how he died.
Her heart started thumping.
She could only imagine that he died in front of her, smiling and saying the same words he said to her the first time they met.
“Were you able to save them?” Alice asked, raising her gaze once more and Devon nodded, smiling with so much assurance and warmth.
“Thanks to you.” Alice smiled back.
“That’s good to hear.” She said.
‘After all, we can’t have valuable awakeneds dying like rats.
If they all die then who’s going to take care of the small gates while I enjoy my peace and quietness?’ Of course, those were her thoughts.
*By the way, your baby griffin is in good care.* Leo said, and Alice’s eyes shot wide open.
“Grifflet?” She called out of her subconsciousness, which alarmed them.
She looked at their questioning gazes and pursed her lips in a thin line.
She really had to get her emotions under control.
She remembered she had kept the grifflet in her ring because Leo said it was the most comfortable place it could stay in till she had composed herself and was ready to think of what to do with it.
It would keep sleeping till it was awoken, and if it did wake up mid-way, it could eat the jewels in the ring and fall asleep again.
Was it really a good idea?
She wondered, but since Leo said it was good, then who was she to complain?
After all, they didn’t know the first thing about raising a baby monster.
“Come to think of it; I did hear the news that you adopted a baby monster.” Miss Stella said and glanced around.
“But I haven’t seen any.
Did you give it up?” “No, I didn’t.
But…
I put it away…
Somewhere.” She felt awkward.
She couldn’t explain things now.
“Uh, sorry but could you excuse me for a moment?
I need to use the bathroom.” She said and they nodded.
“We’ll be right outside.” Miss Stella said, getting up from the bed and she nodded.
Alice dropped her legs on the floor, curled her toes, and looked up at Mark.
“Mark?” She called.
“Yes?” He paused to hear what he had to say.
Though he didn’t need to say it, she knew right away that he had been the one to clean up the blood.
Her clothes might’ve been changed by Miss Stella after she arrived but even though he had been the one to do it…
She didn’t care.
He thought of her welfare and that was what was important.
She curled her toes and clutched the changed sheets on her bed.
It was embarrassing to think that he went through the trouble to clean up after her.
Did he not feel…
Burdened by it?
Her eyes held a glint of remorse and she bit her lips.
And though she did not say anything, Mark seemed to have read her emotions.
He walked closer to her, went on one knee in front of her, and gently took one of her hands.
She looked at him, wondering why he was pulling a stunt like this all of a sudden.
“Oh my,” Miss Stella exclaimed quite softly, staring at the scene in front of her.
“So, Mark can be so gentle sometimes.” She whispered.
