- Chapter 125 - Chapter 125 He felt his heart stop
Chapter 125: He felt his heart stop Chapter 125: He felt his heart stop “Oh my,” Miss Stella exclaimed quite softly, staring at the scene in front of her.
“So, Mark can be so gentle sometimes.” She whispered.
Devon didn’t want to watch, so he walked out and rested his back on the wall, next to the door.
There, he waited till they were done with whatever they were doing.
He would leave soon, anyway.
He had followed Mark back to his place because he wanted to thank Alice once more.
His guild members were fine and those on the verge of death were miraculously revived.
Though there were those who had already died, not more than 7, it was quite unfortunate.
But the rest were able to survive.
As long as there was still a little bit of breath in their lungs and their hearts were still beating, no matter how slow, they would feel better after taking the elixir and potions.
Something as valuable as that was given on a whim.
How wouldn’t he thank her personally?
But then he came upon that scene.
He was horrified and frozen in his feet.
Seeing her like that looked like she was dead and that horrified him.
While Mark moved around, trying to figure out what was wrong and check her pulse, he was frozen on his feet.
He felt bad for that.
But he…
He looked at his shaking hand…
He felt his heart stop.
That single moment, it was as if his heart was no longer beating and it only started beating when Mark confirmed she was alive and breathing.
He wanted them to take her to a hospital right away, but Mark reminded him that Alice was still hot news and if they stepped out of the house and any reporter caught wind of it, they would crowd her once again.
So, there was only one person to call.
Miss Stella.
Miss Stella walked out of the room, leaving those two to talk, and looked at Devon resting on the wall next to the door.
She observed him carefully before he noticed she was staring at him.
“Are you finally at ease?” She asked him.
“Yes, thank you.” He answered and thought she would just leave like that but she went to lean on the wall, right next to him and said, “Don’t beat yourself up, it happens to the best of us.” She said and Devon turned his head to her, wondering how she knew.
He wasn’t there when he froze up and felt his heart stop, so how did she know?
Or was it just a guess?

“Your nerves are over the roof and your heart just calmed down.
I may not look like it, but I have a very high perception and not just for monsters, but it allows me to read people and maybe read them too well because then I end up knowing too much.” She smiled.
“So, you were able to read my anxiety as soon as you entered the room?” He asked and she nodded.
“It was quite obvious, haha.
I didn’t even need to try.” She looked up at the ceiling.
“Anyway, you must really care for Alice.
I knew you were the kind that cared for everyone but this one in particular seems to have you bought.” “I don’t understand it either.” Devon opened up.
“But…
If I want to make a reason then it’s because…
Alice is so bright.” His eyes brightened.
“Yeah, she’s a bright child.
I hope her light doesn’t go off for any reason whatsoever.” They both agreed on that.
“Well, I’ll get down and heat up the big pot of pasta I previously prepared for her.
She seemed to like it a lot before, so I made it again for when she wakes up.” She said, skipping down the stairs.
Devon looked at his phone, a text from his brother, and looked up as Miss Stella asked, “Would you be joining us for dinner?” She asked but he shook his head.
“No, thank you.
I’m eating with my brother.” He smiled brightly and Miss Stella smiled back.
“Alright.” She kept going down and Devon sighed.
Everything was okay now, but he couldn’t shake off that feeling of helplessness that was hanging on his shoulder.
It made him feel he was so incompetent.
He wanted to shake it off.
That feeling of helplessness was something he never wanted to experience again.
He glanced back at the door and closed his eyes.
He would come back to see her first thing in the morning.
Alice stared at Mark on his knees in front of her and her hand in his.
What was he doing now?
“Alice,” he called.
“Is everything alright now?” He asked and she nodded.
“Yeah, I said it before.
Everything is fine.
I won’t be coughing blood anytime soon, haha.” She laughed awkwardly but Mark couldn’t be easily bought.
She might not know, but he had noticed all the times she had bled in front of him; it was always accompanied by a headache.
And though he did not know the reason, he felt those other times, the reason she bled, was the same as this time, but it was much worse this time around.
She had such a long conversation with the voice in her head, probably trying to make up the most believable excuse.
The reason she bled was something different than miasma and poison.
But since she didn’t want to talk about it, he wouldn’t force it out of her.
He just wished she would stay okay.
Safe and out of harm’s way.
Why did he care so much?
It was just because he cared.
He couldn’t think of any other reason, yet.
“Then please don’t push yourself too much.” He said and kissed her hand.
He got up, her eyes following him.
“I’ll be outside.
Once you’re done washing up, come down for dinner.” He said and smiled at her.
He walked towards the door her eyes still following him when he said, covering his face shyly.
“Oh, and Miss Stella was the one who changed your clothes.” He said and walked out, shutting the door after him.
Alice’s face suddenly flushed a faint pink and she said over pouted lips, “I didn’t even ask.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah To be clear, she didn’t blush about him saying he was not the one that changed her clothes, he blushed at the thought that she used to like him in het past life.
It just came to mind in that single moment
