Chapter 144: Why are you staring at me?
Chapter 144: Why are you staring at me?
Well, they did come here to get some privacy where no eyes would see, but it was not for that kind of privacy, so she could rest assured that he just wanted to get a little comfortable.
But why was he standing like a wooden board while staring at the door?
He was like some kind of bodyguard or…
A statue would fit better.
Her gaze fell on his shoulders.
Ah, yes, a statue.
A nice firm statue.
Without the long black coat he usually wore, she could clearly see his shoulders.
They were broad.
He was wearing a waistcoat and that brought out his fit shape so well, and as she looked further, his back looked sturdy.
He was an awakened, after all, so he had to look fit for some reason.
Wait, was that mandatory?
She couldn’t tell but all the guys she knew who were awakeneds were fit like they were some kind of regulars at a fitness gym.
Mark was extremely fit, no doubt there.
And then there was Devon.
Now, she could say he had the body of a God.
Even the grampa, as well as those stupid guards, were fit.
Seems like calories burn when you’re an awakened with overflowing power.
She glanced around the room once more; the silence was starting to get to her, and she was suddenly thinking of so many unnecessary things.
She could no longer hear the moans but that made things even more complicated.
If this continued, she might just fall asleep and she was damn sure that ‘this’ was not the right place to be taking a nap.
“Ahem,” she cleared her throat and rolled her tongue in her mouth.
There was still a light taste of blood at the tip of her tongue.
“I’ll just use the bathroom really quick.” She said and stood up.
Micheal watched her walk towards the other door facing the bed and followed her.
“Why are you following me?” She asked.
“Just because.” He said and her face lightly twitched.
So, he was going to follow her even if he didn’t know what she was going to do?
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
She shook her head, sighing.
Whatever.
She was just going to rinse her mouth anyway.
She walked in, turned on the tap, and washed her mouth.
She took the handkerchief from her nose, and luckily, it had stopped bleeding.
“Finally,” she let out a relieved sigh and washed up properly before turning off the tap and looked up to find Micheal leaning on the door frame, his arms folded and his leg slightly crossed.
Just what did he think he was doing?
And why did it feel like he was smirking at her?
It was starting to creep her out again.
“Why are you staring at me?” Alice asked, picking up a towel to clean her face.
“Oh, I’m sorry.
I didn’t realize it was okay for you to stare at me from behind for so long and I couldn’t even stare right at your face.” He said and his sarcastic words made her glaze her eyes.
So, he knew she was staring.
Well, that doesn’t help anything.
“I was just wondering what kind of guy you were.” She said and decided to change the topic before he thought to escalate it.
She looked at him and remembered there had been a crack at the top of his mask.
“Your mask,” she said, “Looks like you got it fixed.” “Well, yes.
I’m glad you noticed.
And of course, no thanks to a certain someone, haha.” He laughed and she rolled her eyes.
He was the one trying to piss her off, she just played according to his game.
He watched her walk past him towards the bed.
She sat down.
Micheal walked towards her after closing the bathroom door and stopped right in front of her.
“Alice, why do you not hold any defense even though you’re in this kind of place with a man?” He suddenly asked and she tried to find the answer.
She had to admit it.
She was rather relaxed than she should be.
Was it because she didn’t sense any hostility or because the purpose for coming to that place was as clear as day?
She couldn’t point it out, but she had her guard down around Micheal, and maybe that was why she hardly ever senses him when he was nearby unless she knew he was there.
“I don’t know.” She said, shrugging his shoulders and then looking up at him.
“Do ‘you’ know why?” “How am I supposed to know when you have no idea?” He asked and she twisted her lips.
“Well, I guess we both have no idea.” She yawned.
“In any case, even if you have such thoughts, carrying me here, I’m very sure I can overpower you before you even think of laying a hand on me.
So, I’m not scared.” “Hm, that is true.
But…” He suddenly went on one knee to meet her direct line of sight, even when all she could see was a plain white mask staring at her.
“…
You shouldn’t trust in your own strength just because you feel you’re the strongest.
After all, strength isn’t everything.
There’s this.” He pointed at his head.
“Your head?” She asked, clueless but he shook his head with a light chuckle and said, “Brains, Alice.
Brains.
You may be the strongest but the cleverest person may end up beating you.
So, do not put all your hopes in your strength alone.” Alice pursed her lips.
She definitely did not expect to receive a lecture like this in a prostitution house and definitely not from Micheal.
She didn’t expect to come to a prostitution house either.
So, everything was playing out of her expectations.
*You forgot the part where you have no expectations.* Leo commented.
‘Shut it!
No one asked you.’ “Well, I get what you’re saying.” Alice said to Micheal.
“But what can I do when all I have is my strength?” She asked.
*There’s me.* Leo said but she sidelined him.
‘As long as you’re still a talking voice in my head giving advice, you’re not much help when it comes to physical matters.’ *Hmph!* “Then, you can also rely on the other person who has more brains than strength.” Micheal said, bringing her attention back to him.
“So, you’re telling me to trust you?” She asked with her eyebrows slightly raised, feeling a bit suspicious and at the same time skeptical, but Micheal shook his head and said, “No, don’t trust me.
I just need you to believe in me.
Believe in my abilities as a powerful magician.” She furrowed her eyebrows and it looked like she was thinking deeply about it, but then she asked, “Wait, aren’t those the same things?” Micheal stifled a laugh and inevitably burst out laughing, bowing his head as he could not hold on to the amusement he felt.
Alice stared at him like he was suddenly high on drugs.
“Think of it, however.” He said and started getting up.
“Just know that I am your ally.
I will help you to the best of my abilities.” He took her hand and pressed it to where his lips would’ve been if he weren’t wearing the mask.
“I get what you’re saying.” Alice said, taking her hand back from his hold.
“And now I think I’m finally curious.” “About?” “Your mask.” She pointed at his face.
“Why won’t you take it off?” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Vote, gift and comment your thoughts, thank you, hehe
