- Chapter 161 - Chapter 161 Blind faith
Chapter 161: Blind faith Chapter 161: Blind faith “Yeah, something’s definitely wrong somewhere.” She trusted Leo.
She trusted him so much that she would bet her life on him.
But if she were to understand what just happened…
Leaving Lilith’s warning aside…
The only one who could control her body and leave her consciousness in the dark was…
Leo, wasn’t it?
Her heart thumped.
What was this?
She felt like her insides were being ripped to pieces.
*Alice, you…* He paused and she raised her head.
*Are you okay?* He asked.
“Yeah, I…
I’m fine.
At least, that’s what I’d like to think.” She coughed.
‘Is it Leo?
Would he do such a thing?
I don’t know.
I can’t tell right now.
I…
My mind is fuzzy.’ she gripped her head, shutting her eyes tight and trying to collect her thoughts.
*Alice,* Leo called one more time.
*…do you remember that I can read your thoughts?* He asked and Alice furrowed her eyebrows.
“So you must understand that I’m conflicted right now, not knowing what’s right and what’s wrong, right?” She asked, which he seemed to understand and responded calmly.
*Yes, I understand that the situation is very tiring to your mind, and of course, you find me suspicious since I was the only one who could control your body and render your mind dormant.
But…
I told you before, didn’t I?
I can’t control your body these days, even if I want to.* Ah, yes, there was that too.
Leo had not been able to take control of her body, even if he wanted to.
So, he could not have been the one that turned her into a maniac in seconds.
*So, there’s no way I would’ve controlled you.* He continued.

*And just think of it, why would I?
You already have it handled and it’s not like I made you do something you wouldn’t already do.
Think it over before you doubt me, please.* Alice went silent.
Ah, now that she thought more clearly…
She pressed her hand on her forehead, her closed eyes twitching unsteadily…
Why would Leo make her do something she would already do?
They aimed to find Lilith, the demon, and kill her.
So all that losing her mind and going after Lilith like a blood crazy lunatic was unnecessary.
Leo wouldn’t waste his spirituality on something like that, even if he had regained the ability to control her body.
*Trust needs to be present in our relationship.* Leo said.
*If you start doubting me now, the synchrony of our powers will be disrupted.* “What’s that?” *It’s like when I try to provide you with more of my power to blend with the little inside you, but then your mind subconsciously rejects it cause you see me as a hidden threat.
It’s dangerous for both of us.* “Then, in the beginning, how were you able to synchronize our powers?
I don’t think I trusted you then either.” Alice pointed out.
*No, you did.* Leo said, confusing her.
*You must’ve not realized it but you trusted me even then.
You did what I asked even after complaining tirelessly.
I don’t know if it was the blind faith you had that had followed you from your previous life, but you had complete faith in me and put your life on the line with a single word from me.* Alice went silent.
Now that she thought about it, it was true.
She always did as the voice asked, even before she knew who or what it was.
Such blind faith…
Was it because she was already bored with her life and didn’t have much conviction to keep living?
*In any case, that blind faith has gotten us this far.
So, please do not let the words of a demon come between us, whatever it said.* Leo pleaded and she sighed.
“I understand.
I understand.
You can stop with the sermon already.” Alice said and looked at the place they were.
She glanced at Lilith’s body and recalled what Leo showed her.
Lilith has planted a seed.
She didn’t know what it was or who Lilith was trying to warn her of if it wasn’t a plan to tear her relationship with Leo in the first place, but she felt that since Lilith was dead, whatever seed she planted would die as well.
Even if it was discord.
Or so she thought.
Alice had no idea that the kind of seed Lilith, AKA the succubus queen, planted, was something far from discord.
Yes, she did warn Alice about ‘him’ whoever that was, but that had nothing to do with the seed she planted.
Lilith…
Simply planted a seed in her heart that would ‘help’ her female life blossom.
“Sigh, so, what are we doing here now?” Alice asked, after letting out a tired sigh.
*Lilith was the boss of the gate.
You killed her so the rewards are dropped.* Leo said.
“Really?
What’d I get?” She asked but he decided to disclose the rewards once they were back.
*It’s not a long list but let’s get out of here.
Your fight with Lilith scared the monsters to back off but they’ll start coming out now.* He explained and her ears perked.
Ah, no wonder she felt life force a few miles away.
They all stayed away during her fierce fight.
“It can’t be helped then.” She said, stretching her arms.
But then paused.
She remembered the baby griffin in her ring and looked at it.
Leo told her the monsters were used as warriors in this fight against humanity by demons and crooked beings.
So, did she have to hunt them now even when the one making them fight this meaningless war is dead?
*I understand.* Leo said.
*You’re growing.* “What’s that shit you want to spout?” Alice asked and Leo laughed.
*You are being even more sympathetic and more empathetic.
It’s a good growth.* Leo said and Alice pouted, throwing her gaze away.
She always thought that was a weakness.
Having empathy for other living beings and sympathizing with them would only make you prone to betrayal and disappointment, and once that happens, there’s no way to shape the man that there was.
She sighed.
“Leo, let’s let out the grifflet.
I think I’ve come up with the perfect name.” She said.
*Then, just lift your hand.
I have a surprise for you.* He said and she did as he said.
She raised her hand and what looked like a small triangular door space appeared like her ring was a projector.
Alice marveled.
“Whoa, have you been working on it?” She asked and he raised his head, his nose sharpening with pride.
*Of course.
I told you I’d find a way to connect a door, just in case an emergency arises where…
You know.* He said and she nodded.
Yeah, she understood.
The emergency safe for millions to hide if things went out of control.
*I’ll work on it some more.
I’ll make the door bigger and also try to see if I can make it appear in multiple places at a time.
And…* He sighed, he was talking too much again, wasn’t he?
She didn’t care about the long process or how he would do it.
So long as he got the stuff to work out, she would be all excited and happy.
“Um, Leo,” Alice called and Leo raised his gaze.
He saw her staring at him with a surprised look on her face.
She gazed at him.
At least, that was the feeling he got.
She gazed at him with her pure brown eyes that sparkled in growing excitement.
