Chapter 176: I should’ve realized you were…
busy Chapter 176: I should’ve realized you were…
busy That afternoon, Devon knocked on the front door and the person who opened up for him was Mark, who had dark eyebags underneath his eyes.
He looked like he stayed up the whole night fighting monsters but no, he wouldn’t look so worn out if it was just monsters he was fighting.
He looked exhausted, mentally.
Then, was he thinking the whole night?
Did it have anything to do with the words he told him?
The one about liking Alice?
His thoughts were interrupted when Mark asked with a grumpy tone, “What are you doing here so early in the morning?” He asked but Devon shook his head and said, “It’s actually afternoon right now.” But Mark didn’t care if it was morning, noon, or evening, he just wanted to close the door and get back to the kitchen.
“Never mind.” He cleared his throat.
“I was sent by the Chairman to pick Alice up.
They’ll be having dinner together tonight.” Mark’s grumpy expression slightly fell as he looked at Devon, surprised.
“The chairman?” He asked and dropped his hand on his head.
He forgot Alice was supposed to have dinner with him that evening.
“But,” he raised his head.
“It’s still afternoon, aren’t you a bit too early?” “Ah, yes.” Devon said and started walking in, not waiting for Mark to usher him in or anything.
Also, if he disclosed his purpose for coming so early then Mark would really end up slamming the door on his face.
“I didn’t say u could come in, though.” Mark said, looking at Devon with scrutiny in his eyes.
“Well, I saved you the trouble and let myself in.” He said, smiled, and turned to look at the stairs.
“I want to talk to Alice about something so if you don’t mind, I’ll head up.” Honestly, he expected Mark to be against it.
Though he wouldn’t have cared and gone up anyway.
But to his surprise, Mark stood there, arms folded and eyes fixed on the top of the stairs.
“Sure, go ahead.” He said.
“And if she’s awake, could you tell Alice to come down to eat while you’re at it?” He started walking towards the kitchen.
“I don’t think I want to go up and see that guy.” Devon was a bit confused.
What was he talking about?
Was Alice with a guy in her room?
His eyes widened.
It wasn’t Micheal, was it?
If it was, then…

This was going too far.
With this in mind, he went up the stairs and reached for the doorknob.
He had this urge to just open the door and stop whatever shenanigans were going on in Alice’s room but he did not succumb and stayed a gentleman.
After all, whatever was going on in there was her business, not his.
“Alice, it’s me.” He said after his knock.
“Are you awake yet?” “Uh, yeah.
I woke up just now.” Alice responded.
“You wanna see me?” “Yes, Alice.
I have something to discuss with you.
Can I come in?” He asked and waited for Alice to respond.
“Yeah, sure.
Come in.” She said.
Devon gave out a little sigh, calming whatever wrecked nerves were taking over him, and opened the door.
He walked in and the first thing he was going to do was greet.
But…
“Good afternoon, A-” his greeting was cut short when he found Alice on top of a strange man and she had her hand around his neck, strangling him.
“…Alice?” “Oh, hey, Devon.” She smiled.
“How are you?” Devon didn’t know what to make of this.
Ah, was this the kind of thing she was interested in?
“Sorry,” he said and closed the door right away.
“I should’ve realized you were…
Busy.” His face was flushed as he dropped it on the door.
Seeing Alice’s preference was crazy and it made him embarrassed.
But then, the door opened and he had to step back to avoid falling on his face.
Alice looked at him strangely and asked, “Why’s your face burning?” She stepped closer to him and raised her hand to feel his forehead.
He was tall but she was not that short either that her hand wouldn’t reach his forehead.
“You don’t have a fever.
Are you okay?” Devon couldn’t seem to calm down.
Instead of setting things straight and saying he didn’t have a fever, he closed his eyes and pressed Alice’s hand on his forehead even deeper.
(Not sure how deep her hands can go, but okay) “Your hand feels cool.” He muttered and opened his eyes, finding out she was growing red in her ears.
Was he making her uncomfortable?
He didn’t think he would ever be able to.
“You,” Alice said, throwing her face aside.
“…
If you’re having a fever then you should go see the doctor.
Maybe Miss Stella can heal you.” “Thank you for your concern, Alice.” He said and smiled, his handsome face beaming in delight that she actually cared to this extent.
“But I don’t have a fever.
I was just…” His eyes rolled away from her and towards her room, falling on the handsome stranger who sat on her bed without a care in the world.
“Shocked by what I saw.” “What you saw?” She snapped as she realized it and said, “Oh, you mean when I was strangling Leo?” “Leo?
Strangling?” He asked.
Yes, he did see her strangling him but…
Leo?
Alice turned around, “Hey, come over here.” Alice yelled at him.
“Devon hasn’t seen you yet.” But Leo was still holding a grudge and blocked his ears with his fingers.
Alice’s face twitched and she drew back her pajama sleeves.
“Why you…” She matched into her room and dragged Leo by the collar.
“Here,” she made sure he stood properly at her door and smiled at Devon.
“I’ve brought him out.
Devon, this is Leo, and Leo, ugh,” she rolled her eyes.
“Do I even need to tell you?
You’ve seen Devon a couple of times so you know who he is.” “I never asked to be dragged into an introduction section in the first place.” He said with folded arms and gazing away disgruntled.
“Well, you have to be here so Devon can see your face.
I know you’re very handsome in this body but try to be modest, will ya?” “And what part of me was not modest just now?” He asked her with raised eyebrows.
Devon was a bit lost watching them bicker, but given how Alice bickered with Leo.
Given how they exchanged words and the expressions she made, he was sure of it.
“So,” he spoke up, attracting both their attention.
“…Is Leo the owner of the voice that you often talk to in your head?” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah So smart, my lovely Devon.
