- Chapter 188 - Chapter 188 It's called maturing
Chapter 188: It’s called maturing Chapter 188: It’s called maturing On the way to the Chairman’s house, after they had picked up the gift, of course, Alice decided to tell Devon of her plans regarding joining a guild.
The atmosphere had become quite light, compared to how heavy it was when he was telling his story.
“Devon,” she called and Leo, who had his eyes outside the window, rolled them towards Alice, wondering what she wanted to say this time around.
“I really appreciate it that you want to shelter me under your guild.
And I mean the fact that you want me to use your guild name, even if I might bring trouble to you.
But I thought about it and…” She paused, giving him a regretful look and he nodded.
“I understand.” He said.
“I know you must have your reasons.
So I won’t pry any further.” He smiled.
“Thank you for considering it.” “Ah, Devon, you’re such an angel.” She said.
“So understanding.
If only ‘someone’ was as understanding and didn’t badger me about all the time.” She eyed Leo who rolled his eyes away from her.
Devon laughed.
“You two get along quite well.” He said.
“One would assume you were siblings.” Leo paused for a moment and so did Alice.
Siblings?
Ah, they were far from that.
“Devon,” Alice called with a calm voice.
“Do you think… We look anything alike?” “Well, not in face, you don’t.
But you act like siblings quite a lot.” He said and eyed Leo.
“But of course, he isn’t human in the first place so that’s impossible.” Alice went silent.
She looked at Leo who shrugged his shoulders.
This was the first time anyone was making that statement to her.
And ah, she thought she would laugh it off or something like that but it got her thinking deeply.
She went silent, calmly silent.
She and Leo had nothing in common and though they actually act so close that they could be mistaken as siblings but… Why did that term make her feel uncomfortable?
‘Ah, this is getting annoying.’ She thought, clenching her fists on her tight.
‘And I don’t know why.’ *Don’t think too much about it.* Leo told her.
*You know, there are things your heart knows of that your mind can’t even start to understand.* ‘Uh?
What does this have to do with my heart?’ She asked him but he simply shrugged and ignored her from there.

Alice pursed her lips.
‘I’m confused.
I feel I should get mad or get irritated by that but I’m not.
I… I am calm.’ She tilted her head, trying to figure ojt what was going on.
‘Nothing has changed.
Everything’s the same.
But I feel nothing is as simple as it should be.’ She thought but Leo refused to respond about that.
He kept his mind empty and his gaze outside the window.
‘Won’t you explain this little thing for me?’ She reached for his shirt and pinched it.
Devon watched, wondering what they were doing but then he realized they might be having a conversation.
Was it a secret they both shared?
Was that why they chose to keep him out of the conversation?
He lowered his head.
It was not his business so he didn’t need to pry.
He told himself this but… *Alice, you’re just overthinking.
Nothing has changed.* Leo said to her.
*And if you feel like you’re not reacting the way you should or the way you normally would, then take it that you’re maturing.* ‘Maturing?
Are you sure?’ she looked at her other hand.
‘This doesn’t feel like I’m maturing.
My mind restrains me.
My body does not react when it’s supposed to and…’ Leo pounded her head with his fist, shocking Devon who could only stare with his eyes widened.
*See, you’re overthinking again.
All those things are signs of you maturing.* He said and looked away from her.
“I get it, I get it.
But you didn’t have to hit me.” She said out loud.
“Ah, how else was I supposed to get it to sink into your stubborn skull?” He asked her, looking at her like she was an immature kid looking for a beating and she gritted her teeth.
Maturing!
He said she was maturing but she could not grasp the content of it clearly.
She knew she would still pick fights with him, if need be, and she would continue acting recklessly.
So, where was the maturity?
Leo glanced at her one more time before sighing.
He knew something else but he would just keep it to himself.
There was no use telling someone who didn’t want to receive such affection.
She didn’t even believe in them.
If she did, she would’ve been worked up at the fact that she was deeply in love with the guys around her in her previous life.
She glossed over it and that was not something a normal human being would do.
He could also blame the fact that she did not carry such affections completely to this life, and that was why she was taking it lightly, but Alice was not that kind of person, so there was no need to dwell on it.
“We have arrived at the mansion,” The driver said and Devon nodded.
He turned to Alice.
“Is there something you’d like to know before going on?” He asked her.
“Well, nothing.” She said but then she remembered Adolf said something about having a grandson.
“Ooh, aside from Gramps, are there going to be other people joining us for dinner?
I need to prepare myself for when the food gets dished out and the portion, I get is not the portion I expected.” “Well, that is for you to find out, Alice.” Devon said, almost laughing at her simplicity.
“But I will join you at the table.
If you want, I could give you my portion.” She shook her head.
“No, don’t worry about it.
You don’t need to give your food to me.
If you don’t eat, you’ll become all skin and bones.” She said and cupped his face in her hands.
“And that won’t do well for your handsome face.” She shook her head.
“What are we going to do if your cheeks start to sink in because you didn’t have enough to eat, and… and,” She pouted her lips, short of words.
Devon blinked in surprise, his face was squished in her palms, but then the surprise in his eyes slowly faded, and he smiled.
“Then I guess I’ll have to eat my meal and not waste a single thing.” He said.
Leo watched them and shook his head.
Alice still had no idea that awakeneds didn’t need to eat to live.
They could go a month without food and still look as fresh as ever.
But oh well, Alice may never understand why, even if he told her that so, he would leave her to her delusions.
He got out of the car first and looked around.
“So,” he began with a calm and lazy tone.
“This is that old man’s house.” He put one hand in his pocket and used the other to scratch the back of his neck, smirking in satisfaction “Not bad for the world’s richest man.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Okay, people here lies the mansion, ahem
