- Chapter 222 - Chapter 222 That's quite good, Clarissa
Chapter 222: That’s quite good, Clarissa Chapter 222: That’s quite good, Clarissa “Okay, shall we open our textbooks to page 12?” The teacher was a 33-year-old man with a well-shaved mustache, perfectly carved eyebrows, and quite a handsome face.
Just like Miss Stella, he was also popular among the students.
It was sometimes rumored that he had a crush on Miss Stella, given how he acted all shy around her, despite his cool guy appearance.
He was the teacher for the first period and as he gave the instructions, the students started shuffling the leaves of their textbooks, trying to get to that page.
Alice sat upright, doing just that, like everyone else.
Another peaceful day seemed to be upon her and she didn’t hate it.
It was the kind of atmosphere one could sleep in, but she told herself she wouldn’t sleep during classes, so that was what she was going to do.
“Does anyone want to read the text in Paragraph three?” The teacher asked, glancing through the class of slightly uninterested teens.
They were learning Chinese and Alice had noticed that they were learning all sorts of languages, which didn’t seem normal.
But they were a class of awakeneds, so it seemed she had to expect more abnormalities in their curriculum.
So tiring.
Clarissa raised her hand, and the teacher gave her the go-ahead.
Clarissa proudly stood up and picked up her textbook, confidently reading the paragraph that would’ve seemed rather impossible to read if they were normal students.
But Systems had translation settings, so they were all likely using a translation setting to understand what the teacher was saying, but the Alphabet was a whole different story entirely.
Though the system translator allowed them to understand all other languages, it could not give them a hundred percent accuracy in deciphering written languages.
In other words, Clarissa was a genius who knew how to read Chinese characters.
“That’s quite good, Clarissa.
I see you’ve been studying meticulously.” The teacher praised her for her efforts but just as she was about to sit down, Leo raised his hand.
Alice turned to him, wondering what he was doing.
“Yes?
Your name was…” “Leo,” Leo answered and said, without bothering to stand up.
“Leo, what seems to be the problem?” The teacher asked, not minding that he wasn’t bothering to stand.
One rule the teachers teaching the awakened classes gave themselves was, ‘If a student in the awakened class didn’t want to abide by simple rules and they knew they wouldn’t be able to handle them, let them be.’ But that only applied to certain situations.
Trivial matters like standing up to answer the teacher weren’t worth the need to make an enemy out of them.
“She didn’t read the last line right.” Leo said, and Clarissa subtly clenched her fists, still keeping her emotions in check.
“Oh?” The teacher picked up the textbook and took a look at it.
He scratched the back of his neck.
“Hm, you’re right.
It’s similar but that’s not exactly what it says.” Clarissa was slowly getting angry.
Why did he need to interfere in her assessment?
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
So what if it was similar?
She got most of it right, didn’t she?
“Then, why don’t you give her the correct phrase?” The teacher said, leaning on his desk but Leo shook his head.
“No, I’ll pass.” The students started murmuring.
If he didn’t want to say it, then why did he bother to point out Clarissa’s fault?
It almost looked like he was out to get her.
“Is there a secret war brewing that we don’t know about?” “I don’t know, but if they’re planning to go against Clarissa, won’t that affect their teamwork for sports day?” “I know, right?” “Settle down, now.” The teacher said and sighed.
He addressed Leo.
“Leo, if you didn’t want to say the correct phrase, why did you point out Clarissa’s fault?” “Because it was wrong, simple as that.” Alice could not understand what was going on right at that moment.
The whole class was looking towards their desk and Leo was so nonchalantly gathering attention.
Was that his intention all along?
‘What an attention whore.’ She thought, calling his efforts wasteful.
‘The last thing I want is to get dragged into this mess, so just leave me out of it.’ Alice had completely forgotten that Leo could read her mind.
A smirk played on his lips and he said, “But, I know someone who can read it perfectly.” He said, and Alice flinched.
She suddenly had a bad feeling.
Slowly, she turned her head to Leo, only to find him smirking at her.
“Who is it?” The teacher asked.
“Alice will do just fine, teach.” He said, and everyone started murmuring, their voices growing loud in excitement.
It looked like they had actually declared war and Alice, who did not want to get dragged into this, wished she could warp her way into her ring and disappear from there.
“Alice?” The teacher called, unaware of who that was.
“Who is that?” The entire class pointed at her and she gulped.
Just what was this situation?
Damian, who had been silently sitting next to her, felt she was uncomfortable.
It looked like she would love to disappear any moment but the teacher had already spotted her.
“Do you want me to read it for you?” Damian suggested, whispering to her and she looked at him like he was an angel.
“You’re so sweet.” She said.
“But, the whole class is already staring at me, so don’t worry about it.” She patted his head and stood up.
He touched his head.
Why did she pat his head?
He wasn’t a kid.
But…
He looked up at her.
Was she going to be okay?
Chinese characters weren’t easy to read, and for someone who just began the class just a day ago, it might be challenging.
‘I wanted to help her because I know quite a lot about Chinese characters but…’ He hoped she would do well.
The teacher watched Alice as she rose to her feet and his eyes widened.
She…
When did such a beauty join the class?
She looked so good and well built to be a simple teenager.
Those were his thoughts but he quickly snapped out of it, berating himself for having such thoughts about one of his students.
It was very unprofessional of him.
“So, you can read the characters?” He asked and Alice picked up her textbook, “Would you mind reading the paragraph Clarissa just read?” Alice pursed her lips.
‘What was the paragraph again?’ “Paragraph three.” Damian whispered and she smiled.
He was such an angel.
“Yes, I can.” Alice answered and proceeded to read it.
Just a few foreign letters, it wasn’t a big deal.
After all, she wasn’t like other awakeneds, and everything had been embedded in her head; her memories stored them all even if she didn’t want them.
So, whether it was deciphering other written languages and characters or interpreting them in words, she could do them all thanks to Leo, who happened to be her system.
But once she was done, she was going to make Leo taste her fist.
And to think she had been worried about him earlier…
She clutched the textbook tight and glared at Leo…
He was so dead now.
