- Chapter 260 - Chapter 260 I still can't take your word for it
Chapter 260: I still can’t take your word for it Chapter 260: I still can’t take your word for it The words, ‘I am on your side,’ made Clarissa’s heart to throb, and it wasn’t painful; it was quite vague and maybe…
Longing.
She bit her lip.
Was Alice telling the truth?
She couldn’t trust her.
She could never believe her words because of the hatred that was swallowing her heart.
But…
Why did it seem like she wanted to believe Alice, word for word?
“Then,” she let go of her.
“Did you not know that guy was going to approach me?
Why did you come out here if otherwise?” “Well,” Alice dropped one hand on her waist and brushed her hair back with the other, taking a cool stance.
“I wanted to see if you were doing okay after all that.
I didn’t mean to undermine you but,” she shrugged.
“You guys asked me to be serious so I let out a quarter of my true strength so it wouldn’t look like I was trying to undermine the opponent.” She darted her eyes away.
“I really didn’t have any ulterior motives, really.” Clarissa was a bit stunned.
Maybe Alice wasn’t…
Her heart kept thumping…
So bad.
“In any case, I didn’t know such a thing would happen but I do know about that thing he was offering you.” She said, moving towards the shattered potion on the floor.
She squatted, observed it, and frowned.
Alice thought she had at least gotten rid of the majority of the demon blood that was to be distributed, but what if that was just a small batch compared to the actual thing?
They still weren’t sure what role this demon blood circulation had to play but if the majority of humans were turned into demons, didn’t that mean that the few she got her hands on were just the crust in the pan?
“Clarissa,” Alice called and turned her head to look up at her.
“I know you don’t trust me, but can I at least trust you?” “What are you…?’ Clarissa got agitated all of a sudden and yelled at her.
“Don’t be ridiculous.
How can you trust me when I don’t even trust you?” She asked, pressing her hand on her chest.
“Don’t try to act like a good person just because you said a few good words.
I will always suspect your motives and remain cautious around you.” She stepped towards her.
“I will do my best to get stronger than you and best you.” “Then, that’s good.” Alice said and got up.
“Jeez, I don’t like working, and I don’t like using my head either, but I can’t exactly ignore what my eyes have already seen, right?” “What are you talking about?” Clarissa asked, feeling confused.

“You’re an upright character and you won’t give into temptation, so you will fit the bill.” “Huh?” “Right now, there’s someone who is trying to distribute this so-called miracle potion.
It’s a dangerous stuff that can make one lose their mind, becoming mindless power zombies, something like that.” Alice wasn’t going to tell her about the existence of demons.
Not yet, at least.
“The person who takes it gets a double or even triple boost in their stats and powers but at the cost of their sanity.” Clarissa flinched.
“So, it’s more than dangerous.
It should never exist.” “How…
How do you know this?
How can I believe that your words are the truth?” Clarissa asked, shaking off the fear on her shoulder.
“For all I know, this might be the thing you took that made you so powerful and you don’t want me to become as powerful, so you’re advising me against it.
So, can you prove your claims?” Alice watched her as her forehead creased with uncertainty and how her lips twitched.
She was probably trying to discern what was right and what was false.
She was a bright character and if someone like her could get stronger, the world wouldn’t have to worry so much.
‘Now I understand why they’re all trying to groom the youngest ones to perfection.
If they can harness their potential to the max then the future is safe.’ She thought.
‘But this probably still isn’t enough for what’s to come.’ “Well, are you out of excuses?” Clarissa asked and Alice raised her head, shaking a silly expression as she scratched the back of her neck.
“Well, I told you I don’t like to think.
That’s Leo’s part.” She tittered.
“This isn’t a joke,” Clarissa flared at her and Alice’s eyes turned serious, gazing at her.
“I’m serious, though.” She said.
“This thing is very dangerous and I don’t want you to fall victim.
I don’t want you to become a mindless zombie.” She scratched her hair.
“Aish, it’s not every day I care for someone like this, so don’t take my words for granted.” “I still can’t take your word for it.” Clarissa stubbornly said.
She clenched her fists.
‘Alice is hiding something.
What is it that she’s hiding?’ Clarissa thought, trying to use her high IQ to discern from Alice’s odd behavior.
“Hm, then how about this?
Let me tell you the symptoms of someone who has taken this potion.” Alice said.
“You can still fabricate that.
I need concrete evidence.” Clarissa demanded and Alice sighed.
“Then I guess there’s nothing I can do from here.” She said.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t feel like using my head right now, so I can’t think of any way to convince you that you will become a mindless zombie with red veins bulging out of your skin and red eyes if you take that potion.” Clarissa flinched.
Just the description was enough to make her flinch in disgust.
Red bulging veins?
Red eyes?
What the hell was that?
“In any case,” Alice started walking away, stretching her arms behind her head.
“I already said all I could.
If you want to report this to the teachers or the principal, please hurry it up.
So no one falls victim to that deadly temptation.” “W-wait, hold on.” She stretched her hand after Alice, confused that she was giving up so easily.
Alice turned her head.
“What is it?” “Are you…
Are you just going to leave it at that?
I…
I don’t trust you.
So I won’t believe your words.” She said but Alice did not see anything wrong with that.
“Yeah, you made that clear.” She said.
“And I don’t have any problems with that.
Do as you like, Clarissa.” “B-but…” Clarissa felt oddly strange about this whole thing.
Wasn’t Alice supposed to try every means to convince her so she could trust her?
Why was she so carefree about it?
Her fists were tightly clenched and her arms trembled.
“You…
Why are you doing this?” She asked.
“I clearly said I didn’t trust you, so why…?” “Clarissa,” Alice called, interrupting her with a smile suddenly beaming on her face.
“You’re so smart and cool, so do whatever you want.
I’m sure it’s fine if it’s you.
And…
I’m sorry.” Clarissa watched her walk away with confusion surging all over her.
But more than that, her heart started thumping again.
She placed her hand on her chest, wondering why it was like that.
And…
What did Alice apologize for again?
