- Chapter 268 - Chapter 268 Not weird at all
Chapter 268: Not weird at all Chapter 268: Not weird at all Alice turned to Clarissa and asked, “Do you have something to say to me?” Clarissa clenched her teeth and took a step towards her.
“I’m just here to tell you that I still don’t trust you.” Alice nodded.
That was already a known fact, so what else?
“But I’m going to listen to what you said about that suspicious man, so I’m going to tell the teachers so that no one else falls victim.” ‘She doesn’t trust me but she’s ready to believe my words.
That’s an improvement.
I knew she was smart.’ Alice smiled.
“What are you smiling about?” Clarissa flared at her but Alice shook her head and said, “Oh, it’s nothing.” She stepped towards her.
“I just thought you were pretty cute.” Hearing that from her, Clarissa took a step back and declared, “I…
I’m straight.” “Oh, what a coincidence.
Me too.” Alice said with a wide smile spreading across her cheeks and Leo palmed his face where he was.
“What does being straight have to do with any of this?
I just complimented you so you should take it.” Clarissa squinted her eyes.
What was she planning?
“If that’s all, then I guess we’re done here.” She said but Clarissa caught her hand and said, “I’ll be keeping my eyes on you while I do all I can to defeat you.
So, do not rest easy.” She said and Alice looked down at her hand before shifting her gaze back to her face.
Her lips curled up and she smiled.
“Well, good luck.” She said.
Her constant positivity was getting Clarissa worked up but there was nothing she could do.
She let go and stormed out of there.
“Why didn’t you give her a better response?” Leo asked as he stood behind her and she placed her hands on her waist.
“Well, I didn’t know what else to say.” She said.
“If I were to give her a proper response, I would go, ‘Alright, try your best but I assure you, it won’t make a difference.’ I would only be getting on her nerves more.
Don’t you think?” Leo nodded.
That was true.
Alice turned to Nicholas and waved her hand, yelling, “We’ll be heading out now, Nick.” She gave him a nickname right away.
“You don’t mind if I call you Nick, right?” “No, not at all.
I don’t mind.” He said, his ears flushing and she chuckled.
“It was nice meeting you.
Let’s meet again sometime.” She said and started walking away.
Nicholas waved at her and then touched his chest, watching her leave with Leo.

“Let’s meet…
Sometime soon.” He muttered.
Leo, walking behind Alice, examined her carefully.
There wasn’t anything different about her this day but she was acting unlike her usual self.
If anything, she had become far too active, minding other people’s business.
He remembered how she got so angry knowing Nicholas had bullies.
Yes, she had a sad past with bullies and being a dog, but he didn’t think she would get angry on behalf of a stranger.
“Alice,” he called.
“Hm?” She glanced over her shoulder.
“You’re acting a bit strange today.
You seem…” “Excited?” She completed his words and he nodded.
That was one way to put it and she laughed.
“Well, I don’t know either.
But I think I have a lot of adrenaline to burn so I’mma use it up.
And maybe,” she smiled.
“…after seeing Nicholas’s art, I got filled with so much vitality.” She stopped and turned to him.
“Weird, right?” Leo stood in front of her and reached for her chin.
He brushed it lightly before letting go and moving his hand to her head.
He patted her and said, “Not weird at all.” He smiled.
“If anything, it would be nice to see you like this every day.
Caring about other things and walking around.
Being your own person.” “Hm, now you’re the one saying weird shit.” She said, finding it amusing.
“What do you mean being my own self?
Have I been someone else all along?” Leo went silent.
No, she hadn’t been someone else but she hadn’t been anyone in particular, not herself, not anyone.
She was like…
A hollow shell, if he was asked.
It was a bit complicated.
But if Alice could start breaking out of the chains she used to restrain herself with her mentality, the mentality that followed her as she grew up in Big Stach’s den, then it would be better for her.
The first step was being her own person.
“Bang!” Loud guns being fired attracted a lot of attention and they turned to the weapon group to find a few students practicing with specialized guns that had mana bullets.
They seemed to be having fun.
“Whoa, I wanna try that.” Alice said and started heading that way while Leo watched her.
He looked through her memory of a few minutes ago before he joined up with her.
She confronted Clarissa who had punched a man in black and stepped on the bottle of demon blood.
Alice did not have him with her when she went on her own and tackled that issue.
She did not have him with her when she met Nicholas and bonded over his drawing.
She did not even think much about him.
This was yet another step she had taken.
“Thank goodness.” Leo muttered, staring at his hand with grief in his eyes.
“Just like this, little by little, you’ll learn to live without me.” He said and looked up at her, staring at her back as she ran along.
“I don’t know how long I can stay with you, and I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but…
I fear that our paths will no longer align when a crisis that we cannot handle comes.” The second calamity.
As fearsome as it sounded and as bloody as the previous life was, Leo had hopes that Alice would be able to destroy it with her full strength.
But if unforeseen forces are lurking around the shadows, hoping to destroy the peaceful world she hoped to create and stay in, then there was no telling how things would play out.
For one thing, someone might end up betraying them.
But…
He watched Alice take a gun from one of the students, firing away at the target with so much enthusiasm and excitement, and a sad smile played on his lips…
He doesn’t know who it is.
‘What am I good for if I can’t even help her with something like spotting out a traitor?’ Too many restrictions and he cannot interfere more than the world rules allow.
It made him hate his incapability and he feared that he would be the reason why Alice would lose more than she stood to gain.
No, from the start of it all, it had obviously been his fault.
