Chapter 27: Who let a giant, walking cow into the chat room?
That boss meant business.
‘Ah, and to think I wanted to go after it right away.’ Alice thought as she shuddered.
‘My head would’ve probably been rolling about by now.’ It was a mighty foe, she could tell, and if it referred to these dangerous creatures as its children then it was not something she could’ve taken on easily.
“Hey, I thought you said I wouldn’t come out unscathed, like I’d actually survive.” She said to the voice.
“But from the looks of it, I might’ve died as soon as I walked into its throne room.” *No, you would’ve survived.
Only if you listened to me and moved to avoid your neck getting slashed.
You would’ve definitely lost a limb or two and that was why I asked you not to be reckless.
Losing a limb would be very disadvantageous to your future growth* “You know,” she scratched her ear.
“…
Your voice is no longer sounding like that soft whisper from when I first heard you.
If anything, you’re more demanding and I can swear you’re sounding like a man.
Are you male?” *Alice, focus!* The voice rang loudly.
“Geez, alright.” She pouted her lips stubbornly.
“It’s not like I have a choice.” *Alice, be serious this time.* The voice said.
“I already said alright.
So, hurry up and tell me what the plan is.” She said, but just then, the ground startled, rumbling and shaking like there was an earthquake.
“What’s going on?” She asked, the tone of her voice vibrating because of the constant vibration coming from the ground.
*They’re coming* “They?
Who’s ‘they’?
And where are they coming from?” Alice asked, trying to keep her balance.
Then, from the large door at the side, a minotaur burst in with its huge horns as a battering ram.
‘I could’ve sworn that door was unlocked.’ Alice thought, speechless at its sudden entrance.
Did it really have to break the door?
It could’ve just walked in.
But oh well, it was a monster.
Common sense wasn’t really their best trait.
The minotaur burst through, stood upright, and blew out visible steam from its nostrils with an angry expression.
‘Who let a giant, walking cow into the chat room?’ Alice thought once more, taking the situation far more lightly than she should have.

The minotaur was a half-bull bull, half-man monster, towering over ten feet tall.
It stood upright on its bull legs and stood straight as a man would.
Its head had long horns that shot straight and then curved at the tip, having the structure of a real bull with a giant nose ring adorning its nose.
It had the hands of a man, and the chest of a man too.
But you could say it was far more thicker abs than any man could.
And he was towering high and big.
Though it was not as big as the hydra or the eclipse dragon, it was big enough to instill terror as well as crush bones.
Ten feet tall was no joke.
Once again, the minotaur let out visible steam from its nostrils and then set its beady red eyes on Alice.
“Uh, why is it looking at me like that?” Alice asked in whispers, feeling uncomfortable as she felt bloodlust coming from it.
“I’m not wearing red, am I?” *Get ready.
It’s about to call* “Call?
Call who?
Does it have a cellphone by chance?
And who is it calling?” Alice asked but she found out soon enough how the minotaur planned to call and who it was calling.
The minotaur grabbed a horn from the side of his waistcoat and then blew into it loudly.
“Ngh, gah!” Alice covered her ears, her face squinting in discomfort.
It was too loud.
“What the heck is it doing?” Then, the ground started rumbling and shaking, vibrating as if a thousand footsteps were headed their way.
Alice’s eyes widened in realization, “Wait, don’t tell me it’s going to call for backup.” She said and just as she thought, the walls around them all broke with an uncountable number of minotaurs charging into that floor.
“Please, tell me I’m dreaming.” Alice stood in the middle, surrounded by a large number of minotaurs who were getting ready to run her over and rip her to pieces.
“Ugh!” She exclaimed.
She was feeling a massive amount of mana coming from them.
It was suffocating.
Mana was like the power source of these monsters.
And just as how you could mine a mana crystal from a dungeon loaded with them, you could get mana crystals from monsters.
But in monsters, they were called the core.
The more powerful the monster, the rarer the core.
And of course, the costlier.
With a bunch of A-class monsters and above, one could make a fortune selling the body, its parts, and the crystals that acted as their core.
Seriously, minotaurs were rated A-class monsters.
So how were they pressuring her more than the S-class monsters she fought with previously?
Or, had they been strengthened somehow?
She used her third eye to scan the monsters, hoping to find their weak point and maybe accurately assess how powerful they were, but she couldn’t even focus on one as they had started charging at her, giving her no room to study them.
“Fuck!
They’re so annoying!” She gritted her teeth, evading as much as she could and causing accidents between them.
They jammed their horns together, colliding into one another and causing quite a ruckus.
She was barely holding on with dodging and hitting the ones that she could.
It was a chore.
Unlike the other monsters, whom she could fling away with one swing of her hammer, they were holding on quite well, and since there were a lot of them stomping towards her ferociously, it was even harder.
And one more thing.
They, like her, carried weapons.
They carried axes and hammers.
Just like she did.
One wrong move and she would end up as minced meat.
*Strength, 45/50.
Dexterity, 34/50.
Speed…* “What the heck are you doing right now?” Alice yelled at the voice in her head and managed to avoid the axe that swung over her face by needing backward.
It cut a few strands of her front hair, and she flipped backward, kicking its thick jaw in the process.
As soon as she landed on her feet, she engaged in another that almost crushed her down with its hammer.
She swung her hammer and threw that one into a pillar, breaking it in the process.
She finally made a home run with one but they were still coming.
*Reading their stats* the voice answered.
“And how is that supposed to help me in this dire situation?” She asked, out of breath and in an extremely annoyed tone.
She used that annoyance to smash the head of one more minotaur and then split her legs on the floor, avoiding the two who wanted to tackle her from the front and behind.
*I thought if you knew how powerful the opponent was, you would be able to act better* “Well, does it look like I’m acting otherwise?
Quit doing useless things and tell me how to survive.
You’re the one who put me into it.” She yelled.
*Well, technically, you’re the one who provoked the boss.
You would’ve only gotten to see minotaurs from the 70th floor and above* “Oh, so you’re blaming me now.” *…* “For fucks, sake!” She gritted her teeth and watched the minotaurs as they regrouped, getting up like all they got was a light scratch and a few bruises.
She has used her full strength and they were still okay.
Her attacks did not get to them much and once again, she was surrounded.
Their eyes glowed red, breathing in and out and letting out steam from their nose.
Now, they were angry.
“Agh, I’m supposed to be very powerful right now, right?
Why can’t I beat the crap out of them?” *It’s because you are still inexperienced* the voice said.
“As if I don’t know that.
It’s my first time doing this sort of thing.
What was I even thinking?
Coming into a red gate and acting all cocky like I was all-powerful and all-knowing.” She sniffed and rubbed her nose with her arm.
*Are you…?* “If you say ‘crying’ I am going to cuss at you like there’s no tomorrow.
So just shut it.” She flared and it went silent.
“It’s just dust.” *…* “I’m no hero, I’m not even an awakened.
Where’s my freaking system?” It was like she was finally coming down to reality, realizing that all that had been happening must’ve been something she, a dog, wasn’t supposed to handle.
“Why did I have to listen to the stupid voice in my head?
I feel so stupid.” Alice had been feeling on top of the world since she started swinging her hammer.
She felt she could do anything and even laughed at death that could not even come close to her.
Yet now, she had come across a hurdle, a foe, no foes that she could not defeat and she was feeling so bad and useless.
“What am I even doing here?” She muttered and did what she knew how to do best.
Escape.
Alice ran.
The minotaurs tried to catch up to her but she broke the pillars, blocking their way.
Unfortunately, Alice got to a dead end.
She stared at the wall for a few seconds with widened eyes and then gritted her teeth.
She punched the wall, sending a heavy shock wave but it did not break.
A dead end, huh?
