- Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 The administrator was a demon
Chapter 29: The administrator was a demon Chapter 29: The administrator was a demon *Alice, how well do you know about demons?* Alice gave it a thought.
Aside from the regular theory every human had, she knew nothing about them.
The knowledge of demons had been around for ages, even before the gates appeared.
You could say they were part of myths and legends and it was through these myths and legends that creators were able to make games with virtual monsters…and demons And you could say, monsters originated from demons.
As for demons appearing from gates…
It was almost unheard of.
No, not almost.
It was unheard of.
People could assume that one of the red gates could house a demon but no one has actually come across one.
But it wasn’t impossible.
After all, monsters that were only known in video games had suddenly surfaced, so why not demons?
It was only a matter of time before anyone discovered it to be true.
And that time has come.
Because she, Alice, had finally come across a demon.
“Wait,” Alice called out in realization, and the voice thought she had come up with a brilliant discovery, but then she asked, “Are you a demon?” *How dare you compare me with the likes of those filthy beings?!* The voice roared in her ear.
“Ah, jeez, you don’t have to be all feisty about it.” She said, scratching her ear.
“What did you expect me to say?
I don’t know your origin and you seem fairly powerful, granting me power that no human, awakened or not, possesses.
My best bet was to call you a demon.” *…* It was as if the voice sighed and Alice finally got the gender of the speaker.
It wasn’t a soft whisper or an AI-automated voice; rather, it was a man.
And if she didn’t know any better, she would’ve assumed it was a guy sitting next to her and talking the entire time.
That was crazy, right?
*I’ll let it slide this time since you’re far too ignorant to be blamed.* “Hey!” *Let me explain to you the current situation.* The voice said and she went quiet to listen to it.
*There are a hundred floors in this tower.
This tower is a world built inside this gate.
It was designed to rid the world of its life force.* “Yeah, you said that the first time.
That the gate would’ve released all those monsters I killed and destroyed nearly half of the world.
But since I entered the gate before that happened, it won’t come to pass.
Go on.” *The administrator, also known as the boss of this dungeon tower is a demon.* “Oh wow, they really do exist.
And I guess that explains everything.

Normal monsters wouldn’t be able to talk, even if it’s a language I needed a translation for.” She could finally move her legs.
She decided to do some stretches while listening to the voice, though her body still felt a little bit heavy.
*Are you not bothered?* The voice asked.
“Of what?
That the world might come to an end or that the boss of this place is a demon?” She asked.
*Both!* “Well, it is concerning but I can’t exactly cry over it.
I already felt so useless, weak, and out of wits from facing the herd of minotaurs just a while ago and it felt pretty damn terrible.” She said.
“Right now, I’m just going to listen to you.
I’m sure you have a way to take this thing down, so tell me, how do we beat the crap out of that demon and get the hell outta here?
I want meat.” *Alice, you got…
A bit mature.* It said.
“Uh, thanks?
I’m 17 by the way.” She said, a little confused.
*I know that.* Silence followed and the voice broke it, moving on to explain what had to be done.
*Right now, your stamina is next to depleted.* It said.
*But your power levels went up thanks to me taking over your body and killing off all these monsters.
You’re welcome.* She looked weird out that it was taking credit for taking her out of a mess he put her into.
Well, she technically put herself into it, having provoked the boss when she dared to fight him when she was still ‘weak’.
*But you won’t be able to put that power into use because it’ll just end up consuming you.* “By consuming me, you mean…” *You’ll run mad.* It said and Alice’s jaw dropped.
*I’m joking.* “Oh!” *Anyway, you need energy to wield a power as great as mine.
And all along, you’ve been able to use the energy that you’ve accumulated while you were in jail.* It explained but Alice wasn’t getting it.
*The food, Alice.
The food is what provides you with enough energy to wield your power.
It’s strange how it works that way but that’s just it.
And the reason you’re always so hungry and never get filled is because all that food is…* “Serving as fuel to my power and strength.” She completed.
*Yes.
So, no food means no power.
And no power means death.
And death means end of the world.* “Oh!” *And the more of my power you use, the more you’ll need to eat.
Understand?* Alice finally understood where her constant and unnecessary craving for food came from.
She couldn’t go a minute without thinking of food and never felt satisfied.
So, it was all because of him.
How great is his power anyway?
Well, it was great enough to take down a bunch of minotaurs all by itself so it was something extraordinary at least.
“But why food?” She suddenly asked.
“I mean, it’s great and all that I can get to eat and get powered up at the same time but couldn’t you have made my fuel source something else?
Like, mana Crystals for example.
That’s the power source that most awakeneds use to level up.
Why not that?” *If I knew the answer, I’d tell you.
It might just be your preference.* The voice said.
“Hm, I see.” Alice pretended to think but in actuality, she was just wondering if soy sauce would go well with fried chicken.
*Alice, you’re not thinking about food right now, are you?* Her face flushed in embarrassment.
“What?
You and your freaky power are the ones who transformed me into a glutton.
I can’t help it.” She folded her arms and threw her face away.
“Anyway, you could’ve told me about this much earlier.
Why are you just telling me now?” *Because you weren’t strong enough.* It said.
*There are a lot of things I cannot disclose to you yet, but for now, I can tell you these little details.
The stronger you get, the more I can disclose to you.
So Alice, let us proceed climbing the tower.” “Alright.” Alice picked up her hammer but then felt her stomach grumble and she paused.
“Uh oh.” *What is it?
Does your body still feel heavy?* “Well, you know when you said I need to eat a lot so I don’t run out of power and suddenly die, I think I just might die any second from now because…
My stomach is completely empty.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah So that’s why she always wants to eat.
Almost like getting power from food, kya
