Chapter 327: Sure, I’ll eat
Mark stood in front of the pot of food he was cooking. He watched the big pot boil and then glanced away, his eyes traveling to the wall clock he had recently hung on the kitchen wall.
It was 9pm already and Alice hadn’t called to let him know if she would be having dinner there or outside. He was still cooking regardless.
He wouldn’t want to disappoint her.
‘I hope she’s safe.’ he thought, looking away.
He had a pink apron on and a spoon in his hand. He was no different from a nanny at this point since he prioritized Alice’s needs before his.
But he wasn’t complaining. He loved that he could be by her side like this.
“If she doesn’t eat tonight, I’ll heat it up for her tomorrow.” He muttered, still watching the food as it boiled violently. “I… Still haven’t apologized.”
As soon as he said that, he heard someone putting in the front door code and went out. The door opened and Alice walked in. With Leo.
“You’re back.” Mark said, walking up to her. “Have you eaten?” he asked and then glanced at Leo who walked in with her. But he didn’t say anything to him, nor did he pay attention to the silent expression on his face.
Leo wasn’t exactly the type to covey lots of emotions on his face to begin with. Mark glanced away from him and turned to Alice with a bright smile on his face.
“I’m preparing dinner, and…” He suddenly paused, noticing something odd about Alice.
It was as if the usual air around her had been clouded by something dark. He couldn’t quite describe it but it was… putrid.
“Sure, I’ll eat.” Alice said, her lips curling up as she smiled. “I haven’t had dinner, so I’ll eat a lot.”
Mark was relieved to hear that but… he couldn’t quite shake the feeling that something was odd. Was it just his imagination? He heard about the terrorist attack, and though he had no concrete proof, he was a hundred percent certain that it was Alice’s doing.
“I’ll go wash up in the meantime.” Alice said, heading for the stairs.
“Yes, it’ll be ready by the time you’re done,” Mark said and she nodded.
Leo silently followed after her with his hands in his pocket. He was acting a bit aloof. Or was it a lot?
Mark shook his head and sighed, hurrying towards the kitchen.
‘I don’t have time to occupy my mind with Leo’s business. I need to do all I can to make sure Alice is satisfied.’ He thought but once he got to the kitchen, he paused and then looked back at the door. He wondered… what did Alice do after causing all that commotion? She wasn’t as cheerful as she usually would be when he mentioned food.
What happened and what was that disturbing air lingering around her? He covered his nose as he frowned. It was as disturbing as death itself.
His eyes immediately widened as he thought of it like that. ‘Wait, it couldn’t be that she has the smell of death around her because of what she did today, right?’
He grew anxious.
“Alice,” he called softly. “Are you okay?”
Meanwhile, Alice opened her room door and attempted to throw her lazy ass on the bed but Leo caught her by the arm, stopping her midway, and said,
“Don’t rub off that smell on the bed.” He dragged her back and then started helping her take off her clothes. “You have to head into the shower right away and we’ll use my secret remedy to get that awful stench from you.”
“But I thought it wasn’t a physical smell, like natural odor or something. It’s lingering on me thanks to what I did.” She said, allowing him to take off her jacket. “So, how are you going to get rid of the smell? It’s almost like you plan to get rid of what I did. Cause I don’t see any other way to go about this.” She explained and Leo paused, staring at her in surprise. “What?” she asked. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No, but…” he expressed his sincerest shock as he asked, “When did you become so smart?”
Alice’s head lit up right away, taking his words as an offense. Her forehead creased in annoyance. She knew she wasn’t so smart, and she emphasized it a lot, but hearing him say it vexed her for some reason.
She folded her arms and threw her gaze away.
“Thank you very much for the ‘compliment’ but I have someone’s absence to thank.” She said and Leo, seeing her suddenly vexed side along with her sulking pouted lips, stifled a laugh, shocking both of them.

Alice stared at him with her mouth slightly open and he glanced away, unsure of his own actions.
“Wait, wait, hold on a sec. Did you just laugh at me?” she asked. “You laughed, didn’t you?” Leo kept silent, refusing to admit or deny her words.
“Just ignore it.” He said and started pushing her by the shoulder. “You’re acting like this is the first time I’m laughing.” He said.
“Well, it’s not, but…” she was being pushed towards the bathroom. “This time, the reason feels different. I don’t know.”
“Then just ignore it as I said.” He reached the bathroom door and was about to reach for the door handle when she asked in a calmer tone,
“Why did you laugh?”
Leo paused and lowered his head, equally searching for the answer. When he saw her sulking as well as vexing, he thought she looked kind of… cute?
Was that it? He had no idea if that was enough reason to make him stifle a laugh like that, but it was indeed hilarious.
Alice couldn’t wait for his answer, so she decided to listen to his thoughts. But just then, he said,
“Well, I thought it was rather hilarious that it only took my absence for you to realize that your brain can be rather useful.” He said and laughed. “Up till now, you’ve claimed that you aren’t smart in the slightest, but you planned out a lot of things and executed them flawlessly without my help. If not for the fact that you killed a lot, I’d have yelled a big ‘well done’ and praised you for everything you did.” He dropped his hand on her head and patted her. “But since you didn’t do a hundred percent well, I’ll stick with a simple ‘well done’ for now.”
Alice heard his praises and even though she knew he wasn’t revealing his real reasons for laughing, she still blushed to his words.
After all, she would rather be praised like this than be made fun of or reprimanded.
“You sure know how to flatter your way out of things.” She said, hiding her blush by bowing her head and he laughed.
“Come on, that’s not even flattery.” He said and then lifted her chin. “If I wanted to flatter you, I’d be sure to talk about how pretty you became since the last time I saw you.” He grinned. “It’s like your skin became even more flawless and your eyes, they—”
Alice interrupted his flirty flatter with a uppercut, aiming for his chin but he saw her movement and blocked it with his palm. So, her fist landed on his palm while he smirked and continued.
“…And that impatience of yours is so cute.” He added but his words only sent goosebumps all over Alice’s body. She even flushed in embarrassment. Could he even hear himself?
“Okay, stop. Please stop. You sound like a pervert trying to flirt with me. It’s so weird to hear you say those lines.” She rubbed her arms. Seriously, it was so creepy. She was practically cringing while listening to him.
Leo laughed. Her reaction was hilarious.
“Do you also cringe like this when the others throw these sorts of flattering at you?” Leo asked.
“Well, I used to but I’ve seemed to have gotten used to it. And besides, Micheal’s basically the only one who acts like a pervert and flatters me nonstop. It made me cringe a lot at first but I’m used to it already.” She said as she started taking off her top. “Hearing it from your mouth…” she shivered. “I’m certain I’ll never get used to it.”
“And yet, you love it when I compliment and praise you.” Leo said, turning around to allow her to take off the rest of her clothes. “I just can’t understand you.”
Alice stuck her tongue out at him while he wasn’t looking but she had no idea he could feel what she was doing. He shook his head at her childish whim.
“Anyway, get in the empty bathtub, I’ll wash off the stench of death with a secret formula.” He said, and she headed inside the bathroom with her clothes, planning to dump them in her dirty clothes basket.
“And what is this secret formula?” Alice asked, balancing in the tub and Leo stretched his hand towards her.
“It’s a secret.” He said.
