Chapter 335: I was starting to worry for nothing
“I think I’m gradually failing as the big brother you love.” He said and Damian’s eyes widened. “In the world, you should be my utmost priority, my number one responsibility, and making sure I don’t bring you to tears with my actions is what I should think about but I…” He covered his face as he bowed his head even more. “Keep making you cry, don’t I?”
Damian’s lips gradually quivered, but he bit his bottom lip, hoping to stop the quivering, but his eyes took over. He let go of the railing and planned to turn around to face him. He wanted to pretend that it was fine but how…
“To me and everyone else I save, my deeds are heroic but I have to admit. I act recklessly, forgetting that I have you waiting for me at home. If I die, if anything happens to me,” he shook his head in painful dismissal. “I forget to think of what would happen to you. I know you can’t live without me and yet I do things that make you worry and cry.”
…how was he going to do that when his brother was lying on the table, all that he had done wrong?
“I’m sorry, Damian,”
Damian let go of the railing and ran towards Devon, throwing himself on him in a tight hug.
He wrapped his arms around his neck as his eyes flooded out with tears.
“Stupid brother, stupid brother. You don’t think of what would happen to me if I died. You don’t worry how I would feel. You know…” He cried. “You know you’re all I have and yet you… Stupid brother.” He pounded his back and Devon took the hits while patting his back.
He could cry and vent out as much as he wanted. He deserved it.
“Yes, I’m stupid and I’m dumb too. I have to be more aware of my life, I know. So, like Alice said, I’ll put my life first before the life of others. If I know I can’t save myself and save everyone, I’ll save myself first. Does that assure you?” He asked and Damian stopped pounding.
He tightened his arms around Devon’s neck and buried his face in his chest as he cried.
‘I was starting to worry for nothing.’ Devon thought as he stroked Damian’s hair. ‘He looks all grown up now but his heart and feelings are the same. He’s still my naive and kind younger brother.’
That episode ended quite tearfully and then we move on to Alice’s room. Alice paced to and from multiple times before pouncing on her bed.
She grabbed her pillow and threw it towards the door while groaning in annoyance.
Leo just happened to be standing by the door and the pillow was headed towards him.
Yes, it was ‘just’ a pillow, but with Alice’s strength, that pillow could be quite a lethal weapon and he confirmed that when it made a loud crushing sound on the door.
Thankfully, all the doors had been reinforced in the house. So, that throw could’ve very much broken down her door.
“Just what the hell is going on?” Alice yelled. “Nothing’s supposed to happen to Devon, so why did he lose an arm out of nowhere?” She asked. “I mean, I did change the original, didn’t I?”
Leo stayed silent, darting his eyes away. Yes, she had changed the original a lot. No one would believe that the world would be in ruins at the moment if not for her.
And yet… It looked like the people around her were still in danger of dying.
His mind flashed back to her title.
Was it really because of the demons meddling? Was that why these unforeseen events were rising?
“Right now,” Leo said, going to sit next to her. “It’s best to note that the shadow monster who took Devon’s arm was a demon.”
“Yeah, I figured that much.” Alice said, resting her chin on her arm. “He better not think of going into a dungeon anytime soon.”
“Then, what will you do now?” Leo asked her but she simply dropped her head on his shoulder and clicked her tongue.
“It’s annoying to know I have to use my brain on a Sunday.” She said. “Can’t I just go to sleep for the rest of the day?”
“Well, you can but why don’t we enjoy the Sunday?” Leo suggested, smiling at her. “You don’t necessarily have to use your brain right now. It’s not like you can guess what the demons are up to. We already know they want to get rid of you since you’re thwarting their plans.”
“Yeah, we know that much.” Alice said, rolling her eyes. “And it’s thanks to them the gates were acting so bizarre that time. But since it’s been quiet, it looks like they’re trying to think of another plan.” She muttered and then her eyes widened. She raised her head and turned to Leo. “Wait, they don’t plan to get to me through the people I care about, do they?”
Leo went silent. Ah, that was a possibility. But he couldn’t be sure that they had that exact plan.
The reason they approached Devon while he was in the dungeon was because he had Alice’s scent lingering on him. The arm they took was the one he often used in patting her head, so it was very much a coincidence.

But, didn’t this mean they would go after anyone who had Alice’s scent lingering on them?
Thankfully, she wasn’t close to a lot of people.
They could possibly not be able to move freely in the outside world without making their menacing and ominous presence known to all those high-level awakeneds, so they only operated within the gates.
“Guess this is one more thing to be cautious about.” Leo muttered and Alice nodded.
Instead of asking him what he was thinking about, she decided to listen to his thoughts instead.
So far, Devon had been the only case and his party members were as good as dead if not for the elixir Alice had given to him.
“I’ll tell Devon not to go into a gate anytime soon.” Alice said, getting up from the bed. “Mark doesn’t participate in raids, and Micheal doesn’t seem like he’s interested in dungeon raids either so I don’t have anything to worry about with those two. So, that leaves…” She thought about it. “Ah, the rest don’t go on raids either. Thank goodness.” She sighed in relief. “For now, this is the best course of action.”
Leo nodded.
“Then, would you like to spend your Sunday wisely instead of staying in bed?” Leo asked her and she tilted her head. What was he planning now?
