Chapter 354: I can’t beat her but… I can’t lose either
“So, for your creation to fight on equal footing with the monsters that they will face, you need to be stronger. Grow, Nicholas.”
Nicholas’s eyes sparkled. Those were such valuable pieces of advice. He would get to it as soon as he got home. He was very excited. There was a fire burning in his heart.
“Do you think you can do it?” Leo asked. “Do you think you can be the hope for the future to come?”
Nicholas went silent. He did not know about being the ‘hope’ for the future but he did know one thing. He was ready to face this challenge and help out.
“There’s no problem, I will work hard.” He said but the determination on his face slowly faded as he thought of his method of creation.
“Is something wrong?” Leo asked as soon as he noticed his shifted expression.
“It’s just… I think I’ll be getting injured a lot.” He said, suddenly twiddling his thumbs. “Because when I summon the creation, I smear a bit of my blood on it, so…”
“Ah, that’s dangerous,” Alice finally said something.
She had been silently listening to what Leo had been saying and found it very beneficial too. Though she was already so powerful, there was still room for growth. She never really had the reason to try and maximize her power since there was so much of it.
But if she succeeded, would she improve more than she already was?
The same thought went through Damian and Clarissa’s minds.
While Clarissa pretended to be studying, she actually noted down what Leo said. She had never thought of this before. This method… It looked like the most efficient in expanding the mana vessels and it was simple too. Just use it all up till you’re at your limit, and then the next day, try again; you’ll notice that your output and input have been slightly maximized.
Why had no one ever thought of a simple solution?
Well, they were still at the beginning of their era so many were cautious. They probably feel that if you overuse your mana, you’ll end up getting mana backlash and die from the overload.
Mana backlash is like a fever that burns the entire body when an awakened who specializes in mana-related attacks overuses their mana. And then, when the fever spreads, they end up out of breath, and their hearts, the main vessel for mana, stop beating.
At least, that’s what is widely known in fantasy books. No one had ever tried to go that far because they were all scared of dying.
But what if there was no mana backlash? What if nothing happened even after expending one’s mana and all? You’ll be left with us nothing but an empty and weak body in dire need of rest.
Clarissa paused. How did Leo even come up with this method? From the way he spoke, he was very confident in its credibility.
‘If I can increase my mana input and output, then I’ll definitely get stronger. And then…’ she raised her head, a thought of defeating Alice crossed her mind but, at the same time, faded into the wind.
There was no way she could best Alice, not after knowing what she was capable of and who she really was.
She clutched her pen.
‘I can’t beat her but… I won’t lose either.’
Leo looked at Nicholas, observing him and then Alice said,
“If he cuts his hands to bleed all the time, he’ll get anemia, won’t he?” She asked and Leo smiled, saying,
“Thanks for stating the obvious,”
It was clearly a show of mockery but she would take it, despite her irking forehead.
“You’re welcome, smarty pants.”
“I see how things are,” Leo said, turning back to Nicholas. “You used the method you thought was the only method,”
“Pardon?” Nicholas did not quite follow. Were there other methods?
“It doesn’t necessarily need your blood, it just needs your DNA.” Leo said. “Wasn’t there something like that in your skills description?”

Nicholas opened up his system window and checked his skills. He had only one skill, his innate skill which he had acquired at the beginning of his awakening.
The name of his skill was ‘god’s hand’ , a very powerful name for a powerful skill, since it was almost equivalent to the power of a god of creation.
The description of the skill did say he could create any living things besides Humans since one could not create a soul and make it function. But there was that tip at the end of it.
/Room for evolvement: With more progress and an increase in levels, you might acquire the true skill of a god/
He did not know what that meant but it looked like he might actually be able to create moving humans if he got stronger. But how much stronger could he get? He pursed his lips.
“So, did you find it?” Leo asked and Nicholas raised his head, nodding.
“It says with my DNA,”
“So, you can activate your skill with anything that has your DNA; it could be your blood, your saliva, or even a strand of your hair.” Leo explained. “So, you don’t need to get injured at all.”
Nicholas was relieved and he nodded.
“T-thank you so much,” he said. “I really…” His eyes grew teary but he tried not to cry. “Really appreciate that you’re helping me grow stronger.”
“It’s no problem.” Leo said, patting his head. “Everyone has room for growth but it’s the proper guidance they lack. So, hurry up and head home so you can start practicing. Practice like your life depends on it because you never know when a gate could spawn next to you. Is that clear?”
It almost sounded like a threat but Nicolas took it as his way of showing concern.
He smiled very brightly, surprising Alice who was standing next to them. To think he could smile like that. He was so adorable.
“I’ll head home now, thank you.” He hurried towards his bag, put his notebook in, and heard out after waving at them.
Clarissa also got up and left but she was secretly going after Nicholas because she still wanted to see the drawing. Her curiosity wouldn’t let her be.
Alice smiled and turned to Damian,
“Did you learn anything from that?” She asked and Damian nodded. “Me too. Though, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to practice because my power right now can devour everything within a five-hundred-meter radius, so–” Leo covered her face with his hand and dragged her to the front.
“Stop bragging and let’s start going.” He said. “Devon is here already.”
