Chapter 355: I heard there was some sort of commotion
They finally headed out for the class and as per Leo’s words, they bumped into Devon walking up the stairs as if he were the school’s new cool principal.
He was wearing a white shirt tucked in properly, one hand in his pocket and the other hand on the railing as he walked up. He looked so cool with his blonde hair parted towards one side and his blue eyes sparkling with life.
But how was he walking so carefreely up the stairs? Wasn’t he scared that the other students would recognize him and make a scene? It was like he didn’t have a care in the world.
“Is he supposed to be so nonchalant walking into our school like that?” Alice asked Leo while pointing at Devon. “Isn’t he a celebrity awakened? He’d be attracting attention if the school still has students.”
“It’s probably because the school is almost empty that he can walk so majestically like that,” Leo said and kept walking down. “But I’m sure he teleported in to avoid getting seen by the school guards and the students who were still at the school gate chattering away. It’ll be fine.”
Alice chuckled. So, in other words, he snuck in. Even the respectable Devon could act like a criminal sometimes.
Devon raised his head and as soon as his eyes fell on them, he smiled.
“I’ve come to pick you up.” He said, warming their hearts. He was such an angel.
“Brother,” Damian called, also smiling back. “How was your day?”
“It wasn’t anything eventful,” Devon answered. “I was at the guild all through attending to paperwork. I won’t be going into action anytime soon, so for now, I can only…” He raised his gaze and his eyes locked with Alice’s eyes.
She smiled and waved. This brought him to smile quite softly as though he had seen the most mesmerizing thing in the world.
Damian noticed his pause and how he looked at Alice and cleared his throat. It was becoming even more obvious that he thought ‘specially’ about Alice.
“Oh, right. We should get going.” Devon said, regaining himself. “He snapped his fingers and they all teleported out of there and found themselves in his car.”
“Whoa,” Alice exclaimed. “But why drive a car when you can just teleport us home?” She asked, sinking into the comfortable seats at the back. She felt sore, but a good, comfortable seat was enough to make her relaxed. “Even better if you teleport me straight to my bed.”
They all laughed.
“I could do that,” Devon said as he turned on the engine. “But then…” He glanced at her through the rearview mirror. Her carefree and laxed attitude made him smile. ‘I wouldn’t be able to see you like this.’
He started driving out when he decided to ask,
“So, how was school? I heard there was some sort of commotion. Did something happen?” He asked and all eyes darted away towards the opposite direction, avoiding his gaze.
Damian and Alice were especially guilty for such commotions.
“Ah, was there something like that?” Alice asked, barely able to keep up her act. “I didn’t notice. It probably wasn’t a big deal.”
“So many things happen so many times,” Damian spoke up. “So, we can’t be sure what you’re talking about.”
“Is that so?” Devon did not exactly have concrete evidence of what had happened but since he was a part of the National Awakened Association, even if he was not an elder who attended the meeting earlier on, he was able to get a bit of info that there was a commotion at their school.
He didn’t get the details though. But since they were all fine, he guessed he didn’t need to worry.
He suspected Alice was involved since she was somewhat of a hothead sometimes and could let her emotions define her actions but they were acting completely ‘normal’.
Maybe they weren’t involved after all.
(Pft, that’s what they want you to believe)
“In any case, since I don’t have any hectic work going on for me, I’m thinking of taking Miss Stella’s offer.” He spoke up and they turned to him.
“What offer?” Damian asked.
“She asked for help to be one of the trainers. She requested someone who specializes in agility combat to help train the students.” He said.
“But you don’t specialize in agility combat though,” Alice said.

“Yeah, she asked that I find someone for her from my guild since it’s trustworthy and there were no grudges.” He said, though sounding a bit confused and Alice darted her eyes away guiltily.
She probably didn’t want another Rose Guild member incident. So, they would not get anyone from the other big guilds since she had a certain history with most of them.
She didn’t have a history with the Brute Guild but one could not hope to find an awakened fit into the agility category in their guild.
All they knew were their brute strength, their buffed bodies like Marco men and sheer force. That was out of the question.
Then, Miss Stella could just find someone from other small guilds if that was too much to ask. But she probably thought it was better to have someone from a trustworthy guild to do the job.
“Oh, and she also mentioned something about it being better if it was someone that could get through to a powerful hot-headed kid.” He added and they both flinched.
Damian inevitably turned towards the window, scared that his expression would give him away, and Alice lowered her head, gripping her fist tight. Help, she had been called out.
“Haha, I wonder why.” She said but this situation looked amusing to Leo. He smiled and turned to look out the window.
“Anyway, since I’m not that busy, I decided to volunteer. I’m quite good.” He boasted and Alice nodded.
“Yup, yup. You’ve got great speed, and you’re quick on your feet, so you’re good for the job.” She gave him a thumbs up. “Also, you’re going to be training your brother personally, so it’s all good.”
“Damian is in training under agility?” Devon asked, quite surprised and Damian nodded.
“Oh, sorry. I never got to mention it. You weren’t around so it slipped my mind.”
“But you’re a healer, Damian” Devon said worriedly. “Can you handle it?”
“Well, I actually planned to just sit things out from the start so it didn’t matter what category I trained under.” Damian said, brushing the back of his neck. “But I decided to give it my best yesterday. I can’t be left behind,” he said, glancing at the rearview mirror to look at Alice. Their eyes met and he smiled. “I want to be someone trustworthy too. Someone who can handle the back of my companions even in danger.”
Devon fell silent. Ah, his little brother did not grow in just height and body… His heart and mentality had grown as well.
He was proud.
“Alright, then let’s work hard together.” He said and Damian nodded. “Oh, Alice, what category are you under?” He asked and Alice answered,
“Weaponry.”
Devon looked rather surprised.
“Really? I thought you would go under strength.” He said and realized he had said something quite misleading.
Alice was definitely the type to use her fist to solve her problems and only when necessary did she take out her weapon.
Yet, she decided to stay under the weapon category and not strength. Maybe she didn’t want to be found out for the kind of strength she had.
“Sigh,” Alice sighed wearily, once again slumping on her chair.
“What’s wrong?” Devon asked.
“I joined the weapon category because I wanted it to look like I wasn’t good at anything and then sit it out. I want to lazy around but it turns out I’m quite good at it. Even better than those who use innate skill involving weapons,” she grumbled, recalling how she did it better than Clarissa, who was best at archery.
The mana she put into her arrow made her precision and target unimportant because it covered a wide range once it hit the target. So, even if she did not hit the bullseye directly, the entire target could get destroyed with her arrow.
“Well, this must be the universe telling you that you should do more.” Devon said over a little laugh.
Alice was always Alice. Wanting to slack off every opportunity she got.
Leo turned to look at them, Devon, and then at Alice.
Everything occurs for a reason, and the trajectory always leads to a fated encounter or a fated incident. So, even if Alice wanted to run away from the level of greatness welling up inside her, it would find an opportunity to burst out.
The car stopped at their underground garage and Devon said,
“I wish I could talk more but I need to take Damian home.” Devon said, glancing at Damian who was slightly nodding off while staying awake.
He didn’t even know at what point his head had started bobbing.
“It’s… It’s fine.” Damian said and yawned.
“You seem very tired. You must’ve used a lot of energy today,” Devon said and Alice darted her eyes aside.
‘Yeah, getting beat up, that is.’ she thought, still feeling bitter about what those guys did to Damian.
Maybe hanging them upside down was too light of a punishment. Next time she sees them, she’ll make sure to pound their faces so that they end up looking like puffy dumplings.
Yeah, that was what she would do.
She cackled evilly, making it known that she was currently harboring evil thoughts toward someone.
RIP, whoever that was.
Devon smiled affectionately at Damian and stroked his hair, saying, “I’ll make sure to take care of you well.”
