Chapter 356: Fine, just do what you want
Devon smiled affectionately at Damian and stroked his hair, saying, “I’ll make sure to take care of you well.”
“Awn, I’m so envious,” Alice said as she got down from the car. “If only someone would do that for me.”
“Suck it up!” Leo simply said and started heading towards the elevator.
“Hey, don’t walk away when I’m talking to you!” Alice yelled at him and then turned back to Devon, smiling brightly. “We’ll get going now. See you soon.” She ran off and Devon nodded.
Yeah, they would see each other soon. In fact, they would be seeing each other every day. Pleased, he turned on the engine and drove off.
In a dark alley, a very dark and suspicious corner stood a man in black robes. It was too dark to even see if it was really a man or a woman but he stood there with a seashell in his hand.
Staring at the seashell in that dark alley, it was as if he was waiting for some sort of command as if he was waiting for a signal.
He slowly raised the seashell to his ear and there, he heard a voice, a crooked yet deep voice giving out an eerie feeling,
“So, how fruitful is your task?”
“Right now… The target has hatred in their heart and they…” He paused as if his words had been stuck, but he went ahead to finish his report. “Are not stable. We will end up winning.”
Back at Alice’s place, she and Leo walked into the living room with Alice barking up Leo’s ear while he ignored her.
But as soon as they walked into the living room, she attacked him, climbing his back and wrapping her legs around him.
“Why. Are. You. Ignoring. Me?!” She growled, pulling his cheeks and Leo sighed.
“Do you want me to say, ‘You’re so amazing. You’re a genius, your plan is so great, I like it.’?” He asked her and she said,
“Yeah, that’s exactly what I want you to say, you stuck-up bastard!” She pulled on his cheeks.
While they were in the elevator, she proposed they do various things during their picnic at the beach.
Since the sports event was on Friday, in exactly four days, they could relax there on Saturday, that is, given no unforeseen disaster struck.
But Leo kept nodding and saying, ‘Sure’ with a blank expression that said he was highly disinterested in their conversation.
It made her mad, so she started bringing up even the most random things like flying to the moon or going to rob a bank, but he kept up with his, ‘Sure’
It made her very annoyed and unhappy, uneasy, even.
It was as if he wasn’t interested in anything she had to say at all.
“Fine, just do what you want,” she said, getting off his back and kicking him in the process, hoping he fell on his face and broke his nose but he was far sturdier than that and was able to stay on his feet.
She clicked her tongue and headed upstairs.
“You’re so mean,” she said, but Leo stayed silent, dusting his shoulder, and then he sighed.
“I’m the one who was harassed so how am I the mean one?” He asked and looked down. “I just can’t understand you.”
It looked like Mark wasn’t home yet so they were alone. He probably went to the grocery shop to refill the fridge.
That aside, Leo had a few things in his mind that did not let him pay attention to Alice’s words.
Today, while they were just about to leave school, he had felt a certain ominous energy like that of a demon but it was only for a split second. By the time he turned around, he could no longer sense it.
One moment, it was there, and just like that, it was gone, as if it were never there. Even Alice had not felt it so whoever it was must’ve been highly skilled and powerful to be able to conceal their presence after letting it leak by accident.
Or… Was it intentional? They wanted them to know of their presence? Was that it?

Then, there was someone watching them?
He decided to do a wide range search but there was nothing there anymore. They might’ve teleported out of his radius but he couldn’t help but feel uneasy that they were being watched closely by demons now.
‘Will everything be alright?’ he wondered.
They could always sense where Alice was thanks to the vigorous energy in her, and that was how they were always able to spawn a gate next to her.
But because there had been nothing like that recently, he actually let his guard down and thought they were fine.
He did put his guard up after knowing that an actual demon, even if it had been a lackey, was involved in the underground auction. And since Alice had created a mess, even though her identity was not exposed, it would only be a matter of time before the demon in charge of that operation started looking for her.
Then, could he assume that they had found out it was Alice and the demon he sensed was actively looking for her?
Leo sat on the couch, crossed his legs, and shoved his fingers through his hair in exhaustion, letting the strands fall as he slid his hand back.
“I still can’t believe that she caused such a commotion and got away with it.” He exclaimed, referring to the auction incident. “I guess that’s why there are so many risks with running an illegal business. No one would’ve actually thought that such a thing would happen. After all, only a crazy person would go that far.”
He thought of how much rage was in Alice’s heart. He might’ve not been there but when he looked into her memories, he felt it. He felt it so vividly and knew that the demon side in her was taking advantage of that rage to make her do crazy things.
He got worried from that point onward.
“Since they have their eyes on us right now,” Leo thought, his eyes glowing blue as he opened the system database to make some preparations. “… We should always be on our toes, but unfortunately, somebody doesn’t really care that much and would like to gloss over everything.” He sighed. “I should probably go comfort her now since my head is a bit clearer. She’s such a child.” He uncrossed his leg and stood to his feet.
The sports event… He hoped nothing bad happened that day. He hoped their enemy wasn’t waiting for that day to strike. If they did… He could only wonder how many people Alice would be able to save.
Sure, they had classes of awakened kids, but they were all inexperienced, and in the face of real danger, they would definitely freeze up.
Leo had so many things to worry about. The blooming flowers that would protect this world with their spreading petals were still too fragile and delicate.
If they did not protect them now, then the future war would not be easy to win.
Even with Alice, it would not be easy. After all, she could not do everything on her own and there were bound to be places that she could not reach.
‘I’ll have to work on the door of her spatial ring as well. If worse comes to worse, that’ll be our last resort to keeping the people safe.’
He needed to make the entrance of the spatial ring as big as a door. Right now, it wasn’t even able to let Domus’ full body pass through normally. If it could then his job was definitely done since Domus was bigger than the average person now, but it wasn’t.
He was doing his best, but it was way more complex than he thought, and with other things in his mind, he could not fully concentrate on it.
He got to Alice’s room door and was about to open it when he heard Alice’s thoughts,
‘He’s the only one who understands me well and what I’m going through, yet he doesn’t even want to talk to me. I’m at my limit right now. I…’ it sounded like she was sad and frustrated at the same time. She was talking about him while hugging her pillow sadly. ‘I keep having the same dreams but I can’t even bring it up because it probably has something to do with my last life. I wake up in the middle of the night but don’t find him next to me. It frightens me a lot for some reason. I… I’m scared that I’ll be left alone. The dreams keep haunting me, dammit. Why do I have to pass through this? It’s not like they’ll happen again. I already stopped most of it. And it’s not like Leo’s going anywhere, either. I’m just being paranoid, but he won’t even give me that reassurance that he’ll be by my side for as long as it takes. Not forever. Forever is such a long time and I definitely don’t have forever.’
All these were Alice’s thoughts. Since she did not have anyone to talk to, she just kept her thoughts in her mind. She had no idea Leo was listening to her thoughts because of how engrossed she was.
‘I’ll just leave him alone like he wants.’ Alice sadly came to a conclusion and laid her head on her pillow. ‘I have so many people by my side now and yet…’ her eyes closed sadly as she thought of her situation as ironic. “I still feel so lonely in this world.”
Leo did not open the door and went back downstairs. He sat on the couch and sighed, brushing his face with his palms.
‘I don’t even know what to do about this. I’ll just give her some room for now.’
