Chapter 363: Mark got worried
Leo had gone back into her consciousness to recharge and she felt it once his physical form disappeared. He just went to recharge so there was nothing to worry about, yet… She pressed her hand on her chest… The fact that he could disappear from her life at any point in time and never appear again scared her.
She wished they would never get to that point. If he was gone then he had to come back as soon as he could. She could not… Live without him.
She faced the front and looked at the feast on the table.
Two big trays of meat didn’t seem normal. They looked scrumptious and too delicious to be the beef or pork.
“Mark,” Alice called while wiping the saliva that kept rushing down the corners of her mouth, “Which meat is this? When did you learn to prepare meat like this? You grilled and roasted such big portions of meat. How long did it take you?” She asked but then shook her head. “No, first, what meat is this? It smells so good that I want to dig in right away.”
Mark looked at Alice whose excitement was skyrocketing through the roof. He could literally see stars in her eyes as she stared at the meat and then her mouth that wouldn’t stop salivating.
Leo truly knew Alice better, huh.
“It’s monster meat,” Mark answered and Alice raised her head, shocked.
“What?”
“And I’m not the one that prepared it.” He added, taking a seat across from her. “Leo did.”
“Leo… Did?”
This was such surprising news. Why would Leo prepare monster meat for her all of a sudden? She knew he already promised to prepare one for her the next time they went into a gate or caught monsters but this… What was the occasion?
Monster meat out of nowhere?
She was grateful but she was suspicious. This wasn’t a sort of farewell present, was it?
Her heart began to thump heavily. No, it couldn’t be, right? There was still so much to do so he wouldn’t say goodbye so soon. And who in the world says goodbye with nothing but meat?
Alice’s shoulders trembled, her chest feeling tight and her mind going fuzzy.
“Leo wouldn’t… He wouldn’t do that, right?”
Make stared at Alice, confused. Her excitement had suddenly disappeared, replaced by a cold, dark, and stiffening aura around her.
What was wrong all of a sudden?
‘If Leo leaves, what do I… What can I… Why would he even leave?’ her thoughts were suddenly getting clouded, and her brown eyes were suddenly having a dark red hue crawling in and planning to cover up her brown pupil.
“Alice,” Mark called but his voice couldn’t reach her.
Different sinister voices were whispering in her ear, dulling her ability to think and clouding her vision.
Voices that reminded her that she was easy to abandon, voices that reminded her that she was good for nothing if not for the power that had been bestowed on her, and voices that reminded her that so many people died because of her in her previous life and she was a death bringer.
So, this was why Leo left her.
These negative thoughts with no proper stronghold were taking over her mind out of nowhere just because Leo had acted unusual and done something he would normally not do.
A surge of energy swirled around Alice. The color of this energy was blue at first but it started getting dyed with a hue of dark red.
Mark got worried. Just what was going on with her all of a sudden?
He rushed into the brewing storm to stop her. If he let things go on, she would turn the house, as well as the entire building upside down.
“Alice,” he yelled and then reached out to grab her hand but something like a blade sliced his hand.
He looked at his hand and found it bleeding. He clicked his tongue and looked at the dark energy surging around her.

It served as a protective shield, huh? Well, he wouldn’t be stopped that easily.
Alice was not okay and at the moment, he was the only one who could help her. He would do what he could and make sure she was safe.
This was the least he could do.
He braced himself and endured the blade-like energy surge that was trying to stop him from going any further.
It rubbed his hand severely but he did not stop. He reached out his hand and yelled,
“Alice,” he finally grabbed her hand and pulled her to himself. “Please, get it together.” He said but her eyes were still darkened by the same dark hue.
How to get her back to her senses?
He did not think too much and acted out the first thing that came to mind. He pulled her in and kissed her.
But even as he kissed her, there was a repelling energy trying to push him back but he held on tight.
He would not go down without a fight.
‘Alice, please, come back to your senses.’ he thought, pouring his feelings into the kiss.
And just as he wished, the energy surge began to die down till Alice was able to go back to normal but in the process, she passed out.
“Alice,” Mark called, holding onto her tightly.
He didn’t understand. He didn’t understand why she suddenly lost her cool after finding out Leo was the one who prepared the meat.
He thought she would be happy since he was her favorite person at the moment but he couldn’t even tell if she got mad or overwhelmed because that reaction was completely unexpected.
Did they have a fight? Why did Leo not come down with her?
He had so many questions but found no answers to either of them.
He was just confused.
What was that energy surge anyway? It was dark, sinister, and scary. Has Alice ever had such an aura before? Her aura was naturally blue so that dark red hue was something different.
He got even more worried than confused.
What was going on with Alice?
“I’ll take her to bed first,” he said but Devon, who suddenly appeared, saw Alice in Mark’s arms and asked,
“What’s going on here?”
