Chapter 368: By the way, where’s your little sidekick?
When they got on the field, the students were already divided into their different groups. Alice and Damian had to go their separate ways but Damian couldn’t help but stare at Alice’s back as she left.
His efforts were all inspired by her. His efforts to get stronger.
He would become someone strong enough to stand by her side and not need her protection.
“You sure are dragging your feet.” Philip said as he watched her approach but she shrugged and said,
“At least I’m here, aren’t I?” She turned her attention away from him to Clarissa who had already picked up a bow.
She smiled and waved but Clarissa threw her face away, though her ears were blushing.
It was cute.
“Alice, you heard about the changes, right?” Philip asked her. “It’s a school versus school competition now. So, we’ll be having semi-matches so we can pick the best out of the best to compete with other schools.”
“Yeah, I did hear. But in the end, it’s still going to be sports-related, right?”
“For weapons and probably agility class, yes, but for the others, like strength and mana-related stuff, I’m thinking there will be a full-blown battle.”
“Wow, really?” Alice looked at him, surprised. “Then, doesn’t that mean we’re the ones doing the boring stuff!”
An irk formed on his forehead, and his fist trembled.
“Boring stuff?”
“Well, yeah. You know… We’re just going to be having a sports competition, and even if it’s not your everyday competition, it’s still just about that. Archery, fencing, and whatnot. But the other guys get to do a proper face-off against the other schools. It’s more than epic.”
Philip could not exactly deny her words. She was right. Compared to them, they really were the ones doing the boring stuff.
“Well, if you want to change, it’s not too late.” He said.
He didn’t want to keep seeing her face every day, so maybe this was fine. His blood pressure would be stable for a while she was absent.
“What are you talking about?” Alice asked, staring with her eyebrows raised. “Why would I want to change now?”
“But you said it was boring. Don’t you want to participate in the ‘epic’ stuff?”
She heard him and shook her head while waving her hand.
“Nah!” She said, confusing him even more. ‘Why would I want to go do something that will only stress me out? It’s already enough that I’m participating right now. I’d rather sit on the bleachers or rather sneak to the nurse’s office and take a nap when the sports event is in full swing. It’s not like I optioned to be here.’
She couldn’t say that out loud though. It would seem like she was undermining the efforts of the other students so she decided to keep her reason to herself.
“Okay, stop wasting time by talking to me.” She waved him away. “Aren’t you going to start the mini-matches now? Shoo, shoo!”
Philip’s forehead crinkled and squeezed in with his veins nearly popping out of his head. Was she treating him as a pest right now? What did she mean by ‘shoo, shoo’?
And she wasn’t even paying attention to him? She was already looking the other way and laughing with the others as though she had done nothing wrong.
He exhaled. Maybe he was the only one giving himself high blood pressure by minding her words.
“By the way, where’s your little sidekick?” He asked her.
“Huh? Sidekick?” She looked at him, genuinely confused.
“The guy that’s always going around with you.” He answered. “The handsome guy that follows you around and apparently ‘tames’ you.”
Alice tilted her head and then realized who he was referring to. She snapped her fingers.

“Oh, you’re referring to Leo, right?” She pounded her fist on her palm. “That makes sense. But if you know what’s good for you, you won’t call him my sidekick to his face. He is… Not someone you can mess with.”
Philip stared at her as she smiled. Was that a threat? Well, whatever. They were both weird.
“Anyway, where is he? Is he skipping class today?”
“Well, yeah.” Alice simply answered and didn’t say anything else. It felt like she just didn’t want to talk about it. If she wanted to explain, she would’ve said a long sentence already.
But her silence was so annoying. Why did he have to deal with this brat? She would be the death of him, at this rate.
‘And to think she’s far stronger than me. The world is so weird.’ he thought, placing his hand on his neck and tilting it to different sides, trying to crack it and feel comfortable. “Alright, let’s get started. I’ll put you all up against each other myself. So, we’ll start the matchup now.”
And then, while they were busy having a face-off of four at once, the noise from the agility class gradually grew and was quite annoying.
“What are they even doing? They’re getting louder.” Philip asked, and Alice, who was seated on a chair she had brought out of nowhere to watch the others as though she was a boss, turned her head there.
Since she had quite the eye vision, she was able to peer into the scene and know exactly what they were doing.
“Hm, seems Devon’s causing quite an uproar on his first day.” Alice said and Philip turned to her.
‘Why the hell is she sitting while I’m standing?’ Philip thought. He just couldn’t get it but he couldn’t tell her to stand either. “Wait, did you say Devon is there? As in, Devon of the Snow guild?”
“Well, yeah.” Alice said and turned to him. “You’re the trainer. Why don’t you know this?”
The people in their group had also started to giggle and murmur in excitement at the fact that Devon was in their school.
“I did hear that we were getting Amira’s replacement soon but I didn’t think it was someone that famous.” He scratched his hair. “I wonder how much the agency will pay for his service.”
“Why so?” Alice asked and Philip looked at her weirdly.
Was she serious? There was no way she didn’t know how much Devon was worth.
Not only was he a guild master, but he was also an S-class awakened. How could she ask such a question? It was a different case than he, who was also an S-class, entirely.
Besides, he was only there because his aunty put him up to it.
‘I guess she doesn’t think far about it because she’s also quite an important figure.’
“He’s an important figure who should be raiding dungeons, but he was sent to babysit a few kids. What do you think about that?”
Alice thought about it and laughed.
“They’ll probably have to compensate him quite a lot.”
“Exactly.”
