Chapter 383: What’s got your thoughts in a puddle, Devon?
Damian watched from where he was seated, which was quite a distance from where the sword competitors were gathered.

He couldn’t go to Alice yet because the match wasn’t over yet, but he wished he could go to her right away, hug her, and tell her how amazing she was.

He just had to be a little more patient. She wasn’t running away.

Then, he spotted his brother, Devon, going in Alice’s direction. Because he was one of the trainers, he had the authority to go to her even though they were still competing.

Lucky him.

‘I can’t get jealous of my brother.’ he told himself and shook the thought out of his mind. ‘He liked Alice first and… He’s far more capable than I’ll ever be, so unless I get to his level, I shouldn’t compare.”

But he still wondered if he would ever get to his brother’s level.

“How are you feeling?” Devon asked and Alice lazily darted her eyes towards him.

“Tired.” She said, giving him a different idea entirely.

“Did stopping the attack take too much from you?” He asked in a frantic motion. “You could’ve said something if so. I thought you were okay and only came to you now.”

He looked worried.

‘I didn’t expect such a little thing to tire her out. Is there something I’m not getting here? She’s definitely stronger than this.’ he thought and watched her yawn. “Should I get the medic for you?”

“No, no, you seem to be misunderstanding something,” Alice said, waving her hand down. “I’m tired because I feel sleepy, not because I got drained while stopping a silly attack like that one.”

“Oh,” Devon exclaimed and sighed in relief. “Then there’s probably nothing to worry about.” He said and she nodded.

“Yes, I…” She yawned. “Just want to get this over with so I can go to sleep. No big deal.”

Seeing her act so carefree even now, be ended up smiling and said,

“Then I’ll root for you with all I have.”

“Please don’t,” Alice immediately declined with a strict tone. “I already got a whole cheer squad over there. One more would only give me a headache.”

Devon looked at the place she was referring to and saw her classmates, his brother included, holding banners with Alice’s name on them.

They were so adamant about shaping off that Alice had their support.

Where did they even get those banners?

He looked at his brother and felt,

‘He’s so lucky, getting to cheer Alice so openly and by her side.’ he thought and looked away. ‘But I can’t get jealous of my brother. He’s her classmate and close friend after all.’

“What’s got your thoughts in a puddle, Devon?” Alice asked as she covered her mouth with her hand to contain her yawn.

“Well, it’s nothing.” He said and smiled. “I’ll get going now. See you.”

“Yeah,” Alice waved and then turned her attention to the arena.

The next match was starting.

It was one of visiting schools against the guy, demon, Elizabeth had brought along but Alice’s attention was on the jerky Leo brought for her.

“Here.” He said and her eyes glittered with sparkles. She might be a sloth but her appetite was no less different. “Maybe if you’re chewing something, you’ll be able to stay awake.” He said and she wiped the drool from my mouth.

“Thanks, Leo.” She said but as she was about to put one in her mouth, there was a huge explosion accompanied by a loud wail of agony from the arena.

They looked toward the scene and found out that the demon had cut off his opponent’s hand and was smirking. Guess he couldn’t hide his nature for long.

“I might’ve made a slight miscalculation.” He said as he watched his opponent groan in pain while holding their severed hand.

Then, he takes his gaze, looking towards Alice, and smirked even wider as if provoking her.

She could feel his cold-blooded gaze on her, and it nearly made her gag.

“What just happened?” Alice asked, her eyebrows frowning at her scene as she used her mouth from chewing on the jerky.

“The other guy made the first move.” Leo explained. “It was a big move, no doubt. He probably wanted to get the attention of the scouts like Elizabeth did by showing off what he had, but he,” referring to the demon, “…dodged it and swiftly swung his sword.”

“Then how did we get to the severed arm part?” Alice asked.

“From a normal person’s point of view, he swung his sword recklessly and made a mistake. So instead of their swords clashing… That happened.”

Alice was quite surprised that he could pull off such a thing without getting detected. He was so bold. Even if he wanted to kill his opponent, he could do it and not get blamed because it was an ‘accident’.

He could also make it seem like the other person was to blame for the mistake.

But if such a thing happened twice, the audience would start speculating if it indeed was an accident or if he was doing it on purpose and he would be taken into questioning.

His vile and cold-blooded display would not be overlooked. It would be even worse if he ended up killing someone like that.

Humans were fickle. There was no way they would let something they couldn’t understand clearly go just because they didn’t understand it.

In this dangerous world, they would rather get rid of the underlying threat than let it manifest to its full glory and endanger them all.

“Say, Leo,” Alice called, munching on the jerky in her hand, “How do I do that?” She asked.

“What do you…?” He paused, realizing what she was referring to. *You want to end him in the arena?* He asked telepathically but Alice did not really respond.

She simply glanced towards the arena where the medics were putting the boy on a stretcher and taking him out of the arena.

*If it comes to that, yeah. But without saying, it’s clear that that guy is dangerous so, why don’t I let him experience an ‘accident’ before he carries out any more sneaky stuff? There’s no way a demon came here in peace.*

Leo gave it a thought. He might’ve asked Alice to simply observe first if the demon hadn’t done anything but given he glanced at Alice and smirked after cutting off the hand of a promising individual, it was clear that he was out to cause chaos.

*If you want to get rid of him without anyone suspecting a thing, here’s what you have to do,*

Since he was a demon, it would be okay if Alice got her hand a little dirty.

After three more matches, the first round was completed. Alice’s school had both swordsmen advancing to the next round.

She didn’t know if her teammate was just lucky or naturally skilled. She never watched the fight, so she had no idea, but given the circumstances, they left the arena in… He might’ve been skilled.

“I won’t lose in this round either.” She heard him say quite enthusiastically and nodded lazily.

“Sure,” she answered.
