Chapter 384: I don’t sense hostility
They weren’t picking papers this time around. They were pitched together based on each other’s previous performance but for Alice, who they weren’t able to properly access, they decided to put her in the last match against someone from another school.

And unfortunately for her teammate, he had to go against the demon.

“Guess he ran out of luck,” Alice exclaimed. “Should I intervene?” She asked, not that she was all that excited about it, but Leo shook his head and said telepathically,

*Observe. We’ll know his intentions better if he attempts that twice?*

‘Hm, I think he should be smart enough that making two mistakes in both his matches will only put eyes on him.’ Alice responded. ‘If he’s really after me, then he’ll come at me with his next so-called mistake.’

*You’re right. But still… He could have other plans.*

The match went on without an issue and the demon, known as Carl, won. And this time, he did not cut off any part of his opponent as he had done before. Instead of that, all he left on his opponent was a scratch on the face.

Once again, Carl glanced at Alice and smirked, causing Alice’s eyebrows to twitch.

“Ah, that fucker!”

“Language,” Leo said but Alice could not be bothered. He was trying to provoke her, huh?

Just what kind of scheme was he cooking up? She would be sure to find out once they get pitched against each other.

Alice’s match wasn’t anything grand, as usual. The fight ended within a few seconds with Alice dashing towards her opponent first because they were too slow while trying to analyze Alice’s battle stance.

“I don’t have a battle stance so give up and let the next round begin.”

She got in front of them in the blink of an eye, giving them no room to fight back with her sword to their neck.

Of course, it was their loss.

With this, the judges had come to one conclusion. Alice had unfathomable speed, and that was why she was able to avoid Elizabeth’s attack and pin it down before anyone realized it and what she had just displayed.

And like that, the next round began, which was the semi-final.

Unfortunately, Alice didn’t go against Carl in this round but since it was the second to last match, she was sure she would meet him during the last match.

The fights ended quickly and they weren’t very climactic. If anything, the audience had already guessed the outcome.

And now, it was time for the finals.

‘I don’t sense hostility,’ Alice thought, cracking her neck and swinging her shoulder to loosen her muscles. ‘So I can’t read his thoughts. It would’ve been great if he hated me but… Since he’s meeting me for the first time, it’s understandable that he doesn’t hate me.’

She patted her sword on her shoulder as her eyes darted away.

‘Hm, this is such a bother. Should I taunt him and ruin his self-respect to get him pissed? Wait, do demons have self-respect?’

From a corner, Micheal watched the arena. Though his expression wasn’t visible, as usual, there was this sense of stillness in his form.

It was as if he was displeased and annoyed by what he was seeing in the arena.

“Pathetic,” he mumbled and disappeared in the shadows.

In the arena, Alice decided on what she was going to do.

“Hey, this is the last match,” she said to him. “I don’t know who you are but you’ve been smirking at me. Do you know me?”

“Of course,” Carl answered. “You’re quite popular and the talk of where I’m from.”

‘Where he’s from?’

“It’s only due to certain circumstances that we can’t all come down and meet you. We’re such die-hard fans,” he said and chuckled with a deep tone. “Such ‘die-hard’.” He repeated.

“Okay, but unfortunately I’m not into signing autographs or holding fan meetings.” Alice said and dropped her blade, slashing the floor. “So, I’ll have to disappoint my ‘die-hard’ fans,”

“Don’t worry. They’ll still be your fans. So long you stay alive, that is.”

As soon as he said that, Alice clicked her tongue.

He was making it so obvious that he was after her life. He was probably aware of the plan to get her by spawning gates in her exact location.

That happened a few weeks ago, but still, it was such an unfortunate incident, and if she had decided to run, others would’ve died.

Alice yawned.

“So, are we going to keep talking or get this over with?” She asked. “I have an appointment located in the Dreamworld and I definitely can’t miss it.”

“In that case, should I just make things easier for you?” He asked, gradually releasing his energy.

It was red and ominous. Quite disgusting and disturbing for Alice who was very close to him.

In his previous matches, he didn’t use a shred of his demonic energy but now, he was doing just that.

‘Looks like he means business,’ Alice thought but then she felt something.

*Alice, your demonic energy is reacting to his.* Leo told her and she turned her head back to look at him.

‘For real? I can feel something but I didn’t know that’s what’s going on.’

*It wants to devour it.*

‘Devour it? What the hell? Are demonic energy predatory or something?’

*How would I know? You’re the first human who has demonic energy stats. I never thought I’d have to manage one since it only belongs to demons, so I never studied it.*

‘Well then, should we find out?’ Alice asked. ‘If my demonic energy wants to eat his up then it would probably be after I kill him, right?’

*I’m guessing so.*

‘Gosh, u can’t believe even my demonic energy gets hungry. What am I?’

Leo chose not to answer that question.

*I’m still working on how to adjust your system to support your demonic energy growth. As much as I’d like you to refrain from it, I cannot deny that it could be very useful to you so it’s best to help it develop.*

‘Alright then. I’m going in.’

Alice was about to make the first move but then Carl, who had just been observing Alice, dispersed his energy, raised his hand, and said,

“I would like to throw in the towel,”

Alice paused.

“What?”

“Since Carl decides to withdraw from the match, Alice wins by default.”

The crowd was stunned for a moment but ended up cheering since Alice had become the winner.

But Alice was still quite confused. She stared at Carl smirking at her. He turned his back towards her and started walking out of the arena.

‘Leo, what the hell just happened?’
