Chapter 388: …are those gloves perhaps an item?
Clarissa glanced at Diane and then sighed.

“Since you already know my name and I know yours, I don’t think there’s any need for further introduction,” she calmly said and took a seat in the next column of the back row.

“I guess not.” Diane said and engaged in a staring contest with her.

The air grew heavy for a moment but then the air lightened up when Diane said with a sparkling smile,

“Have you seen this cute little puppy?” She showed off Nicholas’ creation. “Your classmate is so creative,”

“Whoa, who brought a puppy to school?” Maki asked and went to tickle it. “It’s so cute.”

“Nicholas made it.” Damian said.

“Wait, he made it?” They asked, surprised. “As in, it’s not real?”

“Yeah, he has the power of creation, so whatever he draws comes to life.” Damian explained for him and then winked at Nicholas.

He probably wouldn’t be able to talk on his own because he was flustered in front of others. His stuttering would only get worse from there.

“Wow, that’s so cool.” Steph was especially impressed. “Does that mean you’re a skilled artist then?”

“I… I g-guess so.” Nicholas stuttered, and they all went silent, waiting to see if he had anything else to say, but the pressure got so much that he just decided to show them instead.

“T-take a l-look for yours-self.”

He brought out his sketchbook and they marveled at his sketches. The beginning was just drawings of nature, animals, and flowers, but who knew something so simple could appear so extraordinary in drawings?

After that, they began to see sketches of Alice.

“Is this… What I think it is?” Diane asked and Leo looked towards him.

“Don’t get the wrong idea.” He said and they all looked up. “Alice gave him the go-ahead to keep drawing her. He’s apparently inspired by her endeavors so he draws her so well.”

“Oh, is that so?” Diane asked. “I was starting to get another idea, but it’s all good.” She tittered. “You’re very talented.”

“T-thank you,” Nicholas blushed bright red and they laughed.

“Weak to a compliment, are we?” Diane turned her attention to Clarissa who was strangely paying close attention to the drawings with eyes that glittered.

It was clear she was amazed by it and even more so when it was Alice in the drawing.

‘So, it’s come to this, huh? Her admiration is admirable,’ she thought and chuckled.

“By the way, are those gloves perhaps an item?” Lance asked.

“Oh, you noticed?” Diane asked, looking at her gloves.

“I’m more of in the strength department, and I’m interested in strength-related items, so I’d know if someone who fights with their fist had an accessorized item or weapon.”

“Hm, then you’re right. I do fight with my fist and these are…” The gloves quickly transformed into her gauntlets, and she punched her fists together, causing a spark. “…fire gauntlets.”

“Whoa, they look so cool,”

“Where did you get it?” Lance asked, his interest hitting the roof as he stared at the magnificent handiwork of the gauntlets.

“How much are you willing to pay for that information?” Diane asked, causing him to fluster.

“Oh, um, I didn’t think of that.” Lance said and Diane laughed.

They were such simpletons. She could tell that they never had to beg for scraps or live cold nights in a dark room before.

They were such a lucky bunch who hadn’t experienced hardship before. To think Alice would hang out with people like this. It was so unexpected because Alice used to be all about give and take.

But, it looked like Alice had changed. She wasn’t picky about the people who flocked around her. Even if they all came in large numbers, the number of people she could actually trust was but a handful.

“By the way, has Alice told you about the plan to go to the beach yet?” Diane asked Clarissa who nodded.

“I… I’m still thinking about it.” She answered with a small blush on her cheek.

“What? You’re planning to go to the beach with Alice?” Maki asked.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Steph asked, grabbing her shoulder and shaking her rigorously.

“It’s because I haven’t made up my mind. I wanted to think things over first.”

“What’s there to think about?” Lance asked. “It’s a chance to spend time with Alice at the freaking beach.”

The pressure from all three of them got so much that Clarissa finally gave in. It wasn’t like she planned to decline it in the first place. She just didn’t want to seem easy.

“Alright, I’ll go.”

“Yay, can we also go?” Maki asked, turning to Diane.

“Well, sure. The more the merrier. Right, Leo?” She asked, glanced at Leo who simply nodded. “Why don’t we go tomorrow? After all this stress, we’d all like to relax, right?”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” They nodded.

“I’ll let Alice know when she wakes up.”

As soon as she said that, a sudden energy wave hit them. It spread over 40 meters over the area and was coming from the fields.

“That feels like…”

“It’s a gate.” Steph announced, looking out the window and they all rushed to see what was going on.

An orange gate was pawning in the middle of the field, pulsing like a heart and expanding. It cackled like there were lightning bolts around it.

It was just an orange gate, and yet its energy level was compared to that of a red gate, fathoming how dangerous it was going to be.

Only its presence sent chills down the spines of the people around. It was too risky to be around there and the awakeneds quickly started evacuating people.

It was the first thing to do as soon as a gate spawns. The safety of the citizens was of utmost importance.

Devon was specifically leading his team to evacuate the people, but then, another energy wave hit them, and right on top of the starting line of the tracks, another gate spawned.

It was a blue gate with energy waves that were too powerful to be considered an ordinary blue gate.

What was happening? He wondered as he saw the second and then the third gate spawning.

Then, someone screamed.

His eyes immediately traveled to where the scream came from and his eyes widened as he saw the orange gate had begun to open.

“It’s a gate break!” Someone yelled. “Evacuate the citizens immediately.”

For a gate to spawn where so many people were gathered, this all felt too odd to be a coincidence. And not just one gate but three.

It was as if they were being manipulated. But was this something a human could do? No, it was not.

Then, who was it? Who was it that was forcing the gates to spawn like this?
