Chapter 389: The Gate Break
Diane and the others watched the situation from the top floor classroom.

They couldn’t believe such a thing was going on.

The monsters had started to pour out of the gates like insects, and though most people had been evacuated out of the premises, and the awakeneds were standing in positions, ready to take on the monsters, there were not enough people to take on the flood of monsters coming out of the gate.

A minimum of seven mages who had been present at the sports event had set up barriers to prevent the monsters from stepping out of the field while a full-scale evacuation was going on everywhere around the school, but it did not look like they could hold them still for long.

“It’s suddenly a danger zone,” Diane mumbled. “The monsters look very strong.”

From the blue gates came forth weak monsters like kobolds, three-eyed red wolves, and blood goblins which were far more notorious and ‘red’ than Normal green goblins.

But from the orange gate… Ah, there was an ogre towering 20 feet tall with a mass that one person could not handle. It couldn’t be taken on by the average awakened, but it was not the same for the S-class.

The ogre wasn’t alone. There were others behind it but because of the barrier, they could not make it out.

But it wasn’t like they were going to stand patiently till the one in front broke the barrier. They pushed with all their might while the one in front raised its huge baton and struck the barrier.

“They’re going to break free,” Lance said with chills running down his spine. “Don’t you think we should go down there?”

“What can you do that a professional can’t?” Diane asked. “Be reasonable. If you go down there, are you a hundred percent sure you won’t freeze in fear? You’ve never faced a monster in your life so how are you going to face them in a crisis?”

Lance’s hands trembled. Diane was right. He was so scared even from such a distance, not to compare when he got close to them. He would definitely die.

“Let’s just wait here until we find a way to evacuate as well.” Damian said. “It’s not safe in the school building either.”

“If things go south, they’ll declare here an orange zone, and if it gets really bad, the city will go down,” Steph explained as she twiddled her fingers in anxiety.

“Gosh, stop talking like that. It’s not even a red gate so don’t jinx our city, okay?” Maki said with a deep sigh, and Steph apologized.

“Yeah, you’re right. Sorry.”

“And, you seem to be forgetting,” Diane spoke up, “So many experts came to watch the event, and among them are the chairman of the National Awakened Association and the leader of our country’s awakened agency, as well as the guild masters of various guilds. They’re all very strong, so I don’t think there’ll be a reason to worry about the monsters running rampant.”

“But what if the gates become an anomaly and release monsters like they did with the eclipse dragon?” Steph asked and they paused. Their eyes suddenly traveled to Alice, who was still sleeping soundly in this sort of situation.

“Well, if things go that far and even the chairman can’t handle it,” Diane spoke up, “Leo, do you think you’d be able to wake Alice up?” She asked and all their hopes rested on him, only to be dashed when he said,

“No, it’s impossible.”

“How is it impossible? Is she hibernating or something?” Lance asked and then poked her cheek. “I can’t believe she’s still sleeping during this commotion and you don’t think you can wake her up either?”

“She’ll wake up when she wants to,” Leo answered. “And I don’t think the situation will need her either. Let’s just wait here and wait for everything to end.”

They were skeptical but since there was nothing they could do anyway, they could only wait it out.

And then, a loud battle cry echoed from the green-bodied ogre as it finally broke the six-layered barrier. Its two fierce lower teeth that pierced upwards spilled saliva as its mouth widened to its max.

It was so loud that they all had to cover their ears. The ground also vibrated due to its loud cry, causing too many to lose their balance.

But even with this cry, Alice was still soundly asleep, making it impossible to believe that anything else could wake her up.

The first green ogre took a step, shattering the ground underneath its feet, and then roared once more as if exerting its dominance.

There was a necklace made of orc fangs around its neck, probably showing off how many orcs it had killed and the number of fangs showed its rank.

The more orc fangs, the higher ranked the ogre was.

The monsters began to spill outside in different directions while the ogres shattered the ground with their steps.

It roared once more, its saliva splattering out of its mouth, and its eyes glowing red. (A symptom we all know)

It proved to be a complete menace.

But thanks to the amount of time the mages were able to buy them, a lot more guilds had arrived and had set their formation, ready to take down the ogre and other monsters.

The mages released their fire, rain, and fireball at the monsters, but they only managed to take on the blood goblins since the kobolds and the three-eyed red wolves were white and quick on their feet.

“Allow me,” Micheal said, emerging from the back, and he stretched his hand with a little chant, “Die,” okay, it was more of a cuss than a chant. And then, a huge and thick ball of fire fell from the sky crashing on all the advancing monsters, catching the ogre as well.

Its density was far greater than that of the fire rain or the fireball those other mages were chanting. It looked like a meteor falling onto the earth’s surface, and it took down the first ogre with ease, as well as the monsters in the area- as well as the entire floor, of course, creating a huge pit.

The mages looked at Micheal with their eyes bulging out in shock as he turned around to leave so nonchalantly after casting such a high-level fire spell. That was an S-class mage, alright.

“Don’t get distracted,” he said to them as he left. “Keep chanting. Even if you can only take out the small monsters, it’s better than nothing.”

The tanks were right in front of the mages, all putting up a barricade to stop the monsters from advancing.

It would be best to create as minimum damage as possible and confine the monsters to the school.

Since they were able to take down the ogre so easily, the morale of the Awakeneds had skyrocketed, and knowing the chairman was present as well as their guild masters; they were ready to give it their all.
