Chapter 392: Their talent was very good
That monster looked scary. It was just a goblin, even if it had red skin and not like the ogre the professionals had to face so why…? Was it because it was her first time seeing a live monster up close?
Her throat ran dry all of a sudden and she gulped, swear rolling down the corner of her face as her palms began to sweat.
She wondered if Steph was having the same problem as her. Since she hadn’t heard the sound of her snipper, then it meant she hadn’t shot yet.
So, it wasn’t just her.
‘I can do it.’ she told herself. ‘It’s not like it can hurt me from high up here. I just need to pull the trigger. Think of it as target practice. I never miss.’
She was about to pull the trigger but Steph suddenly beat her to it, taking the head of red goblin in her scope in one shot.
She blinked, surprised, and then turned to Steph.
“Hey, that was my target.” She whined but Steph stuck out her tongue and snickered.
“Try to take mine then. Anyway, I’m ahead of you by one.”
Maki felt she knew what Steph had done. She probably saw her hesitating and helped her out.
“Well, I’m not letting you take the next count. I’m doing it myself,” she said and this time, pulled the trigger without hesitation.
She did wonder if Steph hesitated like she did. They might be genius sharpshooters, but in the field, they were no better than novices who were wet behind their ears.
So, this first experience was like gold to them, and it helped shape them.
Diane watched them and laughed. They looked like they were having fun, counting how many monsters they were killing. How cute?
They seemed to be quite good at marksmanship and were no longer hesitating to take down monsters. If they continued at that rate and were able to take out the remaining monsters while the professionals regrouped and took care of their injured then it was a good effort.
Their talent was very good.
But little did they know that they had not only succeeded in taking out the monsters but also succeeded in revealing their location for a certain ‘someone’ to target.
“I guess that about does it.” Maki said, exhaling in satisfaction. “Wow, I haven’t had such a fierce competition in ages.”
“That’s because you and I were always teaming up. We never went against each other.” Steph said as she laughed, putting away her rifle so it turned back into her bracelet.
“Yeah. If our teachers decided to put us against each other then it would’ve definitely been a war zone,” Maki said and laughed. “I’ll just check to see the situation down below before I keep mine.” She said and started looking around through her special skill, zoom.
It was a skill that helped a snipper like her. So, she could find any person within two a two-hundred-meter radius without even looking through her scope.
She was the only one who had that skill amongst the both of them so it helped scout out enemies.
The ice barricade was still holding up nicely and the tremor from the monsters hitting it had stopped. Maybe they gave up.
“Hm, nothing out of the ordinary.” She said, and just when she was about to turn off her skill, she caught sight of a man staring directly at her as if he knew she was staring right at him. ‘Wait, that’s impossible. Isn’t he too far away?’ she looked closely and then saw him smirk before disappearing before her very eyes.
It sent shivers down her spine and she got scared for a moment. That was a man, wasn’t he?
He had the appearance of a man but that gaze in those red bloody eyes, coupled with that smirk… Just what did that mean?
“What’s wrong?” Steph asked, seeing her trembling, and she turned around to hug Steph.
“I… I don’t know. My body froze up as soon as I saw that man and I…”
“A man? What man?” Diane asked but Maki could only shake her head. She didn’t know who it was.
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen him before but his eyes…”

“What about his eyes?” Leo suddenly asked, after acting like a mute all the while and they all turned to him.
“What?”
“You said something about his eyes. Were they… Red?” He asked and though Maki did not know how he guessed it, she nodded. “Anything else?”
Leo had hoped he was wrong but Maki had confirmed it for him.
The waves of demonic energy were coming in large folds and he guessed it was because of the monsters who had red eyes. They were clearly influenced by demon blood so he didn’t think too much about it.
But that was it. That was what he was thinking about. Why, when there were so many young talents, did gates appear like that?
And gates filled with demon-influenced monsters, no doubt. So, was their target Alice? Of course, it was Alice. There was no other reason why they would open three gates at once but then he wondered… Why such weak gates that the awakeneds could take care of?
Alice wouldn’t even need to intervene. They couldn’t get her with such cheap tricks. No way. Not when they failed with red gates.
So, he thought harder about it.
Was that a trap or a diversion to take their minds away from their initial plans?
If so then what was their initial plan?
He pondered on this severely while the others were chatting and making efforts, only for him to hear now that there was actually a demon on the premises that he was not aware of.
They masked their own disgusting energy with that of the contaminated monsters and blended in, hoping to cause chaos from within.
“What else did he do?” He asked, more eager this time.
“He… He didn’t do anything. He just… Smirked.” She said and then it dawned on him.
This was indeed one of their tricks and the real show was about to begin.
Then, a loud explosion erupted in the building, shaking its very foundation and making them all lose their balance and either fall or hold on to something.
“What was that?” Lance asked.
“Was that an earthquake?” Damian asked, unsure when Leo said,
“An earthquake caused by monsters, I’d say.” He said, and at that very moment, the front door burst open, and Miss Stella rushed in, carrying a bleeding student in her arms, one clinging to her back, and several others that followed her in. They were all injured and the kid in her arms seemed to be hardly breathing.
This sight shocked them, and then they heard her as she turned to the last students who came into the class, sure that it was the last of them, and yelled.
“Block all the doors, hurry. The entire building is flooded with monsters!”
