Chapter 396: Tell me… where are they?
“Alice,” Mark called, and Alice turned her head, only to be enveloped in his arms as he hugged her with everything he had.
Alice was stunned. It wasn’t like she died or anything so why was he acting like this?
“I’m so glad you’re alright.” He said.
It wasn’t like Alice could not take care of herself. Even though the entire world came crashing, she would be the only one capable enough to still remain standing.
And yet… Even after knowing that and knowing how powerful she was, he couldn’t help but worry about her. He couldn’t help but think of the worst that could happen.
He was the weak one so why was he worrying about the strongest of them?
His heart kept racing worriedly, and the only way he could soothe it was when he laid his eyes on Alice, perfectly healthy and unharmed.
“Thank goodness,” he mumbled, holding her tight.
For some reason, Alice did not say anything. She was stunned, and she knew he had needless worries but she couldn’t push him away. She couldn’t even tell him that he was being too much.
So, she raised her arms and wrapped them around him, hugging him back. She patted his back, comforting him.
Mark noticed this and looked down at her, surprised. She simply smiled, sinking into his embrace and he smiled back.
“It feels so nice having someone worry about me.” She said. “So, you can keep worrying about me.”
“Alright,” Mark said and hugged her again till others arrived.
“Alice,” Damian called, and they broke their hug only for Damian to wrap his arms around her as well.
Everyone was just hugging her. Were they that scared? It’s not like anything happened to her.
She glanced behind him and found Diane, Lance, and Clarissa.
“Are you all okay?” She asked as she patted Damian’s back.
“Yeah, but we have a situation.” Diane said, scratching the back of her head and then glanced at Mark. “Hello there. We meet again.”
Mark simply nodded. He remembered Diane since she was Alice’s friend.
“What’s the situation?” Alice asked as Damian finally let her go.
“We couldn’t all get out away from the reporters. They were asking so many questions and keeping their eyes on Domus and the other two who failed to sneak away.”
“Did you say reporters?” Alice asked, her eyes twitching angrily.
She remembered clearly how unreasonable those people were. When she took out Domus from the gate, they wouldn’t even let her speak before coming up with all sorts of absurd conclusions.
If the reporters were there with Domus and the rest then they might’ve already started making all sorts of stories to match what their eyes were seeing.
“Tell me… Where are they?”
There were reporters whose attention was mostly on Domus and the kids from the school building. They were trying to get a word about what happened up there and where the monster came from.
So far, there hadn’t been news of anyone who managed to tame a monster, much less a monster that only appeared in red gates.
But these inconsiderate reporters who were only trying to get a story were making the students uncomfortable. Steph shifted back with Maki, staring at the eyes that were on them and the questions they wouldn’t stop asking.
For some reason, they looked more scary than the monsters they fought.
“Shouldn’t you be ashamed of yourself?” They heard the voice of the leader of the agency and turned their attention to him.

“Young leader, would you like to tell us what you think about this bizarre occurrence?”
“Leader of the Awakened Agency, what is your take on this attack? Surely, it wasn’t a coincidence that gates spawned in the same place where our future heroes were all gathered.”
Noah etched back a bit, staring at them uncomfortably. Could they ask any more obvious questions?
But then, he exhaled, planning to take care of this as he would normally do.
“Now, now, calm down, everyone.” He said. “This matter was a shock to everyone, and though there are few losses, they are still losses, so we have to do the needful and grieve those we have lost before investigating this matter further.”
The reporters did not hesitate to take notes and take pictures of him. Every word he said would be put into the papers.
“Surely, you don’t believe that the gates were opened by a man so it could be that this was an attack directed from the ones that have been against us from the start. We simply need to keep our coins up, our hearts strong and take on the brunt so we can all get to see another day.”
“Then, Leader Noah,” someone called out. “What’s going to happen about the gate now?” He asked and their eyes traveled to the gates that were still blocked by the ice.
“I heard that the gate was blocked by a student, is that true?”
“Really? What student is that strong? I assumed it was done by Guild master Devon.”
They began to talk amongst themselves, looking for a conclusive answer but it only gave Noah a headache.
“Word will be released after the investigation begins,” he said and walked past them, but they looked like they still had a lot of questions to ask, so they followed after him.
But then, they suddenly couldn’t get near, as if there was an invisible barrier blocking them. And before they knew it, they lost sight of Noah.
Noah stared back at the reporters who were looking for him and sighed, turning his head to Adolf and Marcus, his secretary.
“Thank you, you saved my neck.” He said.
Marcus had deployed his special skill that stopped the reporters from coming closer and soon erased his traces like a stealth skill.
“A council meeting has been called.” Adolf said.
“What? All of a sudden?” Noah asked in shock. “Aren’t you the chairman? You can just call it off, right?”
“I wish I could, but they all already made that unanimous decision, and everyone is on their way to headquarters to attend the meeting.” He said as he brushed his eyebrows with his fingers. “They know such a thing happened here, and yet they already want to sit and talk about it.”
“I bet they plan to talk about one specific individual.” Noah said and glanced at the crumbled school. “The school’s destroyed now. I’d like to see what they have to say.”
“Yes, so first I’ll find Alice so we can attend the meeting together. If I arrive with her, it should restrict them from acting carelessly.”
