Chapter 46: Are you going to start acting spoiled?
Chapter 46: Are you going to start acting spoiled?
“You’re an A-class combat awakened, yet you have no talent, and that’s why you were stuck at the level of jailer.
Since that’s the only thing you are good at, you should know people aren’t what they portray themselves as.
They are evil, and you never know; she could be too.
So, shut your mouth and don’t spoil her anymore.” Mark flinched and then clenched his fists on his lap.
He slowly bowed his head, unable to refute his words.
He hated the mean things he said about Alice but…
He couldn’t open his mouth to speak.
He had no authority to.
He was an A-class awakened but he had no real talent.
Even B-class mages were better than him.
He couldn’t fight monsters properly and that was why he couldn’t even go on raids and was stuck watching over criminals that were brought into the facility, observing them, and overseeing that they confessed to their crimes.
That had been his life since he became an awakened after he dropped out of school and had no money to take care of his slowly dying mother, who was now deceased.
He has awakened too late and lost his mother.
Maybe that was why he didn’t have the power to fight monsters.
Maybe because he had no will or no zeal.
He couldn’t tell.
He had no one to take care of but…
He needed to make ends meet for himself.
So…
All he could do was work with no emotion on his face, watching the worst criminals walk in and see all sorts of cruelty they mete out.
But then he met this criminal who was brought in on the charges of hiding her identity as an S-class.
He wondered, what would they be like this time around?
He honestly expected a man or at least someone advanced, but then he found out it was a girl, no more than 17.
He was surprised at first, but he did not waver, thinking age was just a number in the face of human selfishness and greediness.
But she wasn’t…
She wasn’t what he thought she would be.
She wasn’t greedy…
At least, like other humans.

She was a little girl who only wanted to fill her stomach with as much food as possible and live in the little comfort that was provided for her.
She…
Didn’t even care for her own life.
How pitiful was that?
He gritted his teeth.
She didn’t deserve to be treated like a criminal.
A spoiled brat?
Would a spoiled brat have scars all over her body for little mistakes made when trying to make it into perfection?
Would a spoiled brat speak about death like it was child’s play?
Would a spoiled brat jump into a red gate just to stop more people from dying?
She was just trying all she could to fill her stomach.
Couldn’t she live like a child just because she was an awakened?
Just because she had the label of a criminal?
His heart was crushed on her behalf.
He was useless, yes, but she didn’t deserve this.
Alice, after listening to all Alfred had to say and watching Mark bow his head without any authority to respond, let out a sigh and then rested her elbow on the door once more, dropping her cheek on her knuckles and staring out the window.
“Hey,” she called, not bothering to look at him, and kept her gaze outside the window, watching the wasteland of the dungeon they were driving through, “Stop the car.” “What?” Alfred looked at her, his eyebrows furrowing and his forehead creasing.
“What nonsense is this?
Are you going to start acting spoiled?
I put up with it when we met for the first time but no more.” He ranted but Alice still couldn’t be bothered to look his way.
“Let me tell you, I’m not like this jailer.
I will not condone your childishness.
He may be an idiot, getting fooled by whatever act you put up but I will not be fooled.” Alice stayed silent, her eyes gradually turning dark.
She didn’t like this.
“Ah, yes.
You won’t be fooled.” Alice suddenly said.
“You can’t be fooled, obviously, because I’m not trying to do such a thing but…
You’re definitely an idiot.” “What?!” He flared.
“Now, do you want me to repeat myself?” She asked finally, turning her head, and showing the dangerous gaze she had in her eyes.
“Stop the car or I’ll stop it myself.” The car came to a sudden halt and Alfred rushed out, giving himself a good distance away from her.
The dangerous aura he felt from her was not ordinary.
All along, he didn’t feel anything from her but now…
It looked like she planned to murder him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Alfred asked, watching Alice come down from the car.
The guards following from behind in their own cars came down and surrounded Alice.
They looked like they were all hand combat awakeneds.
“Oh, I don’t think I’ve done anything.” Alice said and her lips curled up, revealing her maniacal grin.
“Yet.” “Miss Alice,” Mark called, also getting down from the car.
He couldn’t understand what had come over her all of a sudden.
He knew she was reckless but doing this would only complicate her situation.
“What are you doing?” He asked and she tilted her head to the side, looking a little dissatisfied.
“If I told you I don’t know either, would you believe me?” She asked, to which he couldn’t respond.
What did that mean?
“I mean, it was fine when he started talking shit about me.
I’m used to stuff like that.
But when he started calling you useless, I got annoyed.
Don’t ask me why cause I can’t tell why either.
It just…” She glared at Alfred.
“…Pisses me off that when he opens his mouth, the only thing that comes out is filth.” She cracked her neck and then her knuckles.
“Useless A-class?
Useless Jailer?
What?
You got a problem with someone not wanting to fight?” Alice took a step and the guards took their stance.
“You got a problem that he doesn’t want to be anything but a jailer?” She took another step and they were conflicted if to attack her or not.
“You got a problem that he treats me nicely?
Huh?” The next step she took buried her feet in the thick soil, and she released her murderous intent, swallowing Alfred where he was, along with the guards who were on guard against her.
“Well, why don’t I show you what it really means to be useless?” Her eyes blazed.
“What are you doing?” Alfred yelled at the guards.
“Stop her.” But before anyone could make a move, Alice practically vanished and appeared in front of Alfred.
“Peek-a-boo.” She said and palmed his face, dropped him to the ground, and broke the ground with his head.
“I see you.” (Okay, I want to clarify something.
Mark just doesn’t slay monsters, not that he can’t.
But when pushed to a corner, like the hydra incident, he did his best to protect his men, who were no more than C class and below.
It’s like when you’re very capable of being an athlete, having the perfect body and status but you just don’t do it because you have no interest in it.
And even when you’re put on the field and track, you perform poorly.
That’s exactly Mark’s situation.) CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah At this point, we can say that Alice’s favorite is Mark, right?
But maybe it’s a top soon conclusion After all, she hasn’t interacted with others as much as she’s interacted with him, but who knows?
