- Chapter 59 - Chapter 59 Nothing beats a good bath
Chapter 59: Nothing beats a good bath Chapter 59: Nothing beats a good bath Alice suddenly remembered something and signaled him to lower his head a bit closer.
He was oblivious to what she was going to say but took her as a harmless girl.
So, he bent his head and she whispered a few things to him, knowing he was the only one who could solve it.
After whispering, she smiled like a little troublemaker and added, “Please?” “Hoho, don’t worry.
I’ll take care of it.” He said and Mark, who didn’t hear her words, wondered what she whispered to the chairman.
He raised his hand towards his assistant and Marcus placed a card on his hand.
“Here, my number is in it.
Call me once you’re settled down and I’ll invite you for dinner.” “And lunch.” Alice added, taking the card with a wide titter.
“You’ll invite me for lunch too.” “Yes, yes, Miss Alice.
I will invite you for lunch.” He patted her head and smiled.
“So, I expect your call soon.” With that, he walked away and Alice touched her head.
The care of someone old enough to be her guardian was…
Warm.
Once the Chairman left the hall, Alice suddenly started feeling auras surging out of the council members, giving her goosebumps.
‘What are we still doing here?’ she thought, darting he eyes aside.
Instead of it being scary, it was creepy as it felt like a dozen wolves trying to pounce on an innocent sheep.
Though there were no wolves or an innocent sheep, there was going to be some pouncing.
Hungry agents looking for the best talent to recruit.
It was like all hell was going to be let loose as they charged towards Alice with their business cards.
Alice thought they had finally run out of patience and wanted to attack.
She was ready for it.
After all, she had eaten her fill and was filled with energy, so she believed she could take them on in one fell swoop.
She stretched out her hand, ready to take out her hammer when Devon placed his hand on Mark’s shoulder and snapped his fingers.
They disappeared and reappeared at the entrance of the headquarters building, once again viewing its magnificent architecture, and Alice, who did not expect that, was rendered speechless.
‘Eh?
What just happened?’ ******* A hot shower to wash off all the stink and filth that stuck to her skin after coming out of the dungeon was all Alice needed to feel alive again.
She might’ve gotten a reconstruction but getting a reconstruction does not wipe off the filth and grease that was stuck on her from that dark and creepy dungeon.
There were blood splashes that she managed to wash off in a stream she came across, but since there was no soap or shampoo, she wasn’t a hundred percent clean.
She made sure to wash her carefully, scraping off any residue that was dried on her hair.
She scrubbed her skin thoroughly until she felt there was nothing else to scrub off.

“Hah,” Alice exclaimed loudly, feeling immensely satisfied.
“This is life.” She hung her towel around her neck, wrapped another around her chest, and stretched her arms.
“Nothing beats a good bath.” After leaving the headquarters, and still in Mark’s arms as he proves stubborn and wouldn’t let her take a step on her own, they got in Devon’s car.
His teleportation abilities were unfortunately limited.
He already used it once for a long range of teleportation because it was an emergency.
The headquarters was built on an island, that was very far from their country.
It was built after the first gate with a tail appeared.
So, in other words, it was newly built.
Anyway, Devon could teleport anywhere in the county but going out of the country took a lot of mana out of him.
So, he rarely did that.
But this time, he did it and needed to replenish his mana but that would have to wait till they got back to the country.
In the meantime, he needed to conserve his mana and not waste it.
With Alice in the back seat and Mark behind the wheel, Devon stole glances at her through the rearview mirror.
Though Alice claimed she was perfectly fine, she couldn’t fight the drowsiness that came over her all of a sudden.
‘Hm, guess I really am tired.’ she thought, blinking her eyes drowsily and trying to stay awake but she couldn’t fight it.
Her eyes finally closed and she fell asleep.
Just a minute after she gave in to sleep, her body fell sideways and her head was heading for the door but Devon, who had been watching her, teleported to the back seat and her head fell on his lap.
Mark was surprised.
But not only him, Devon too, was surprised.
“Why did you do that?” Mark asked and he raised his head.
“Her head was falling and it was going to hit the door.” He said, but that was just an excuse.
Why did he do that?
“Impulse.” He answered.
“It was nothing but impulse.” Why would he even act impulsively and use the tiny bit of mana he was trying to reserve?
Maybe he just didn’t want Alice to hit her head.
Why did he not want her to hit her head?
She could get hurt.
And what was his concern there?
Because he was compassionate to all living beings.
Really?
Was that what that was about?
He held this conversation in his head but still didn’t get the answer.
He looked down at Alice, sleeping soundly on his leg and sighed.
From the beginning, he had shown her kindness.
So why was he looking for a different reason behind his actions?
He was confused.
He raised his head as he felt Mark’s cold gaze on him.
Mark, who would normally tremble at an S-class awakened’s aura and had no right to speak down on them, was currently glaring at one, and the reason why he was feeling…
angry¿…
The reason why he didn’t like Devon getting close to Alice, pure intentions or not…
It was quite simple.
“Mister Snow,” Mark called, knowing Devon’s last name was Snow.
“I really appreciate your consideration towards Miss Alice but if you act like that, your actions will be greatly misunderstood.” He said, partially glancing back as he also needed to keep his eyes on the road.
“Miss Alice is under my care now, so I would like to ask you to please mind your actions going forward.” “…” Devon went silent.
He supposed that was plausible.
And he also wasn’t understanding his own actions.
He seemed to have gotten some sort of attraction to this young girl.
So, maybe creating a little distance would help him out.
“I see.” Devon said.
“I will watch my actions going forward.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Cough, cough, cough I have nothing to say but to cough
