Chapter 77: And then, will you give me money?
The doorbell rang, and Mark rushed towards the door, thinking it was Alice and she was ringing the bell because she didn’t know the passcode of the house.
But as soon as he got to the door, he stopped and then composed himself, so it wouldn’t look like he had been waiting for her all along.
He then opened the door, only for him to see who was at the door and frown.
“What are you doing here?” Alice walked into the building, bobbing her head happily since she had picked up a few chicken drumsticks on her way back.
There were a lot of late-night chicken joints, but since she didn’t have any money, she was worried she wouldn’t be able to get anything to eat.
So, she decided to trade one of the valuable items in her ring for food.
However, they did not believe that she would give out something valuable just for a few drumsticks and thought she was a scammer.
She was also asked to show her awakeneds badge, which she didn’t have.
She was placed in a difficult spot.
So, she had to bring out something even better.
An elemental sword.
At least they couldn’t tell her it was a fake when the blades lit on fire.
Yet, even that was disapproved since it was dangerous for non-awakeneds to have weapons.
They could be attacked by awakeneds who would try to coerse them to give it away for free or suffer consequences.
And they may even wreck the place if they refuse to give away the sword.
Anything could happen.
“Hm, then what do I do?” She asked, leaning on her sword.
Then, a big guy, in the company of his goons approached her.
They had seen the things she brought out and thought of her as a naive beginner.
In simple terms, they wanted to rob her.
“Hey, pretty, that’s a really nice sword you got there.” He placed his hand on her shoulder and she gazed at him.
“Do you have money?” She asked and he snickered.
“Of course I do.
Just come outside with us.
We’ll give you enough for that sword.” Alice gave it a thought and then nodded.
“Alright, let’s go.” But as she was about to leave, the girl at the counter caught her arm and shook her head, mouthing, “They’re dangerous.” Alice smiled and gave her a thumbs-up.
“You got it.” The girl at the counter was worried but he father, who had refused the weapon and other things from Alice shook his head and told his daughter, “Let’s not worry about the awakeneds.
We need to look after our own lives.” Alice followed the goons to a back alley where there were no cameras.

She looked around and said, “Hm, this looks promising.” And then she turned to find them snickering at her with their weapons drawn.
“Wow, are we playing ‘battle’?” She asked, in reference to a popular game where different members fought with weapons.
She knew exactly what they were up to but she decided to play dumb.
They thought they had her cornered but in reality, she was the one who had them trapped.
This was all her plan to snatch their money away and teach them a lesson for eyeing her goods.
“Okay, pretty girl, just hand the sword over, and we won’t hurt ya.” “And then will you give me money?” She asked, still acting gullible and they laughed.
“Yes, yes.” He approached her.
“We’ll give you money and you can even play with us.
How does that sound?” He dropped his hand on her shoulder, disgustingly licking his lips, and her eyes twitched.
She had had her fair share of disgusting perverts for one night.
“Okay,” she said, smiling and grabbed his hand.
“Let’s play.” With that, she snapped his hand and then kicked him into the wall.
The sword in her hand disappeared as she said, “I won’t be needing this.” Then, she glanced back at them with a maniacal smile and said, “Alright, boys.
Let’s play.” Alice whistled back into the restaurant, dropped all the cash she had acquired from the goons, and snatched the packaged chicken she had left on the counter.
“I believe that’s enough to pay for this.” She said to the completely stunned girl and turned to leave.
“Uh, wait.” The girl called out.
“This is way more than the cost of the chicken.” She said.
“I know that.
I’ll come again tomorrow, so keep the change for me.” She snickered and walked out the door with no care in the world, humming happily.
She had left the goons in the back alley, nearly breathing but not for dead.
If they were lucky, they would survive, and if they weren’t, well…
It was on them.
She ate the chicken on the way, picked up a cold soda from a convenience store, and felt so alive.
After that fight, she was very famished.
*Are you sure you were sure it was the fight that made you famished?* Leo asked and she narrowed her eyes.
“Way to ruin my moment, Leo.” She muttered.
“Aren’t you supposed to be recharging by now?
Or something like that?” *And since when did I become a chargeable appliance?* “Well, since the beginning?” She crushed the can and threw it into the trash can at the corner as she walked by.
“Anyway, what do you want to say?” *How do you know I want to say something?* He asked.
“Cause you suddenly decided to speak after all that.” She rolled her eyes.
It was just a guess though.
She didn’t know if he really wanted to say something.
*Hm, you’re becoming more observant.* Bingo.
She guessed right.
*So, remember when I told you that the more monsters you fight, the more powerful you become?* “Yeah, I remember that much.” She said.
*Well, I think that also applies to humans as well.
The more battles you fight with creatures, humans included, that are past a certain power level, the more powerful you become.* “Hm, then did my battle with Big Stach make a great impact?” She asked.
*Yes, you got a little bit stronger.* ‘Hm, just a little bit?’ *His level was far inferior to yours so there was not much significance.* “In other words, I have to fight with monsters or people that at least come close to my level if not above?” She tilted her head as she asked this and he responded positively.
*Correct.* “Ugggghhhhh, where am I going to find people like that?” She asked, lazily.
“You know what?
I’m tired.
I’ll just sleep for now.
Let’s not think about it anymore.” *Yes, you need to rest.
But know that you don’t need to stress yourself about finding powerful people to fight with you.
They will all come to challenge you, eventually.* He concluded and she sighed.
Battle, battle, battle.
She didn’t want to think of any of it any longer.
She just wanted to close her eyes and sleep for as long as she could.
She finally got to Mark’s house address, got into the elevator, and hummed along with the elevator tune until she got to the right floor.
As she walked out of the elevator, she realized she didn’t know the code of the house.
She wondered if Mark would still be awake by that time.
It was pretty late.
She would probably have to call him.
But as she approached the door, she noticed it was open.
‘Hm?
Why is the door wide open?’ she wondered.
‘Was there a break-in?’ she rushed in but halted right away as soon as she walked in.
She blinked her eyes in disbelief and opened her mouth to speak but she was speechless.
In front of her was Mark on the floor with Devon kneeling on top of him.
They looked like they were struggling but what if they were having a moment?
It was different for everyone, right?
“Um,” she finally spoke up and they both turned to look at her, shocked.
“…
Am I interrupting something?” She asked, forcing them to push each other away and yell, “NO!
