- Chapter 78 - Chapter 78 Because I am worried about her safety
Chapter 78: Because I am worried about her safety Chapter 78: Because I am worried about her safety “NO!
ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK!” Devon and Mark chorused in an attempt to wipe the misunderstanding from her mind, but that only deepened the misunderstanding.
What exactly did they want her to think after seeing that?
They were definitely having a moment and were trying to hide it.
Gosh, she didn’t know Mark was like that.
Well, maybe that was why he did not have friends.
He was trying to keep this side of him secret, hehe.
But Devon?
Gosh, they say the wildest ones are the nicest.
Of all the places, they decided to get dirty on the floor in the living room.
They didn’t exactly look like a pair.
But maybe that was what they wanted everyone to think and they had a secret relationship going on for a while.
So her expression said as she cackled and deduced all sorts of nonsense in her head.
“Alice, whatever you’re thinking, erase it all.” Mark said but Alice darted her eyes away and said, “I can’t exactly unsee what I’ve seen.” She shrugged.
“It’s really not like that.” Devon snapped.
He was red in the face, embarrassed by this situation.
Of all things to be caught doing and then misunderstood.
“It was just an accident, so don’t misunderstand.” “That’s what they all say.” She muttered, refusing to believe anything but her eyes.
“Look, what happened was…” After Mark opened the door, his face fell on seeing Devon at his door.
He was expecting Alice but it turned out to be the nice and compassionate Devon who cared oddly too much about Alice.
What time was it?
Why was he here so late?
“What are you doing here?” Mark asked, folding his arms.
“Where’s Miss Alice?” He asked, attempting to walk in but Mark grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“You can’t just walk into my house like that.” He said.
“Then, can I come in?” Devon asked, out of courtesy and expecting that would make things better but Mark still refused, giving a flat, “No” Devon frowned.
“Do you even know what’s going on?
I just want to make sure she wasn’t involved.” He said, shrugging his arm out of Mark’s hold.
“What do you mean by that?
Are you just looking for an excuse to barge into my house in the middle of the night?” “I’m not barging in if you’re the one who opened the door for me.

It’s not like I teleported in.
If I did then that’s basically breaking and entering.” Devon pointed out, but shook his head and looked around with his eyes.
“Is Miss Alice inside?
I’m worried that she got caught up in that dangerous wave.” “Wave?
What wave?
Was there a gate break?” Mark asked, suddenly getting anxious.
“So, you honestly didn’t know.
That means Alice isn’t here, is she?” Mark refused to answer.
“The guy who Miss Alice used to work for is dead.
And there were multiple clones of him, counting over a hundred lying around, crushed and sliced into pieces.
All clues point to Miss Alice.” “And Alice?” He grabbed Devon’s arm.
“Did it show if she was okay?” “That means she’s not here, right?” He asked once more and Mark shook his head, causing him to sigh.
“She wasn’t seen in the scene but it could’ve only been her.
It was a brutal mess.
But if she’s not back yet then it only makes me worry.
I’ll go out to find her.” “And why are you going out to find her?” Mark asked, tightening his grip on Devon’s arm, somehow forgetting that it was the arm of an S-class awakened and he was just an A-class.
There was a huge difference.
“Because I’m worried about her safety.” Devon answered simply.
“No, you should stay out of it.
I’ll go and find her.
I’m her guardian.” Mark stated clearly but Devon looked at him like he was a disappointment and stated, “Yet, it seems you’ve failed in that simple task.
Where’s your ward?” Mark gritted his teeth.
Was he trying to sass him?
He knew he couldn’t compare to him in terms of strength, class, or anything for that matter, but at least he was the one who was given the mantle to take care of Alice.
He should just go away and leave the matter of Alice to him.
Devon noticed he was trying to threaten him with those eyes and it actually annoyed him.
“What are you thinking at a time like this when Miss Alice’s whereabouts are completely unknown?” He asked, releasing a far more intimidating aura than got to Mark.
“You’re her guardian, act like it.
You shouldn’t let my involvement cloud your judgment.
Two people searching would be faster, don’t you think?” Mark gritted his teeth and then stepped back, only to lose strength in his legs.
He fell backward, still holding Devon’s arm, and Devon, taken unaware, fell with him.
“Get off me.” Mark demanded.
“If you hadn’t dragged me down, I wouldn’t have been on top of you in the first place.” And so, they got into yet another argument.
“Why do I feel like you hate me for no reason?
Everything I do suddenly seems to irritate you.
I try not to offend people who I perceive as good and so how did I offend you, Mark Steiner?” Hmm, he seemed to have forgotten the part where he almost murdered Mark for allowing Alice to go into the red gate alone with no assistance.
But that was probably in the past and gone from their memories.
They were both wrong.
Mark clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“Why are you asking me such a question at a time like this?
Get off me.” He tried to push him off.
“If anyone walks in, they would definitely misunderstand.” And then Alice walked in, completely misunderstanding.
They told her most of it but did not disclose the contents of their argument that led to them on the floor.
They only told her they had an argument and started getting angry at each other, releasing their auras, which led to Mark falling and dragging Devon to the ground with him.
“So,” Alice threw a few pieces of popcorn in her mouth and chewed.
She had listened to them, so it was time to decide if it had indeed been a misunderstanding or if her eyes were right on point.
“…
Mark fell and Devon fell too.” She pointed at them and they nodded.
“And that’s why he was on top of you?” Once again, they nodded, acting like well-behaved kids.
Alice gave it a thought.
Maybe she had indeed been mistaken.
That could’ve happened to anyone.
“Alright, I believe you.” She smiled heartily and they let out a sigh of relief.
“Just so you know, Miss Alice, I do not swing that way.” Devon immediately said.
“Neither do I.” Mark added, and she gave them a long, hard look before grinning.
“Hm, you never know.” She shrugged.
“Love can attack people in the most unexpected ways and come from places we least expect.
Like gates, for example.
They spawn where we least expect and when we least expect.
And what comes from it are dangers that can change your life for good.
It’s scary and suicidal.
So, it’s advisable to never enter one or even be near it, unless you’re strong enough to handle it.” She placed the empty bowl of popcorn down, got down from her chair and tapped their shoulders, and walked past them, yawning.
“Anyway, I’ll head to bed now.
I had a really rough night.
Good night.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Hmm, her definition of love is rather hardçore, but at least she knows what love is, right?
