Chapter 89: How did you end up flying out of the room?
“Miss Alice is a person of her own, as you know, so stop trying to make decisions for her with your own selfish mindset.” Devon’s blue eyes suddenly glowed red as he added with a bit of rage in his eyes.
“She is not yours, so stop trying to make this about you.
It’s sickening.” Mark stood his ground, facing off against Devon who had way more stats than he did.
“Say whatever you want.
I’m not trying to make decisions for her.” Mark said.
“She’s oblivious of the awakeneds world.
I just don’t want her to fall prey to wolves and tigers.” “Alice isn’t mine.
I know that too well.
And do you know what else I know?
She’s not yours either.” He dared to say.
“Why are you trying so hard to recruit her?
You want to have the strongest weapon under your wings, don’t you?
The selfish mindset you claim I have is nothing compared to that of you S-class awakeneds.
You want it all, and you’ll get it, no matter what you have to do.” Devon frowned.
“And just what mentality are you using to talk to me like that?” He asked, releasing more of his threatening aura to intimidate Mark.
“Do you think I want to recruit her so I can use her powers however I want?
Think straight.
If she doesn’t join a guild soon or create her own at least, the agency will not let her go into any gate, even if it’s on solo missions.
And they will keep perceiving her as a threat.
They are greedy, and they are the ones you should be wary of if at all you are doing this out of care for Miss Alice.” He shifted back, glaring at Mark, who wouldn’t stop giving him the deadman’s eyes.
“Gosh, I feel like I’m talking to a brick wall with you.
If you know what’s important, you’ll know that Miss Alice can’t be without a guild for too long.” He turned away from him.
“And I don’t want her to end up in a guild that could exploit her, so that’s why I’m here.” Mark’s veins popped out as they crawled up his arms.
He clenched his fists so much that they had become so visible.
He was mad.
He was so mad yet he couldn’t find a justified reason for his anger.
What Devon said was true.
All of it, yet he couldn’t stop himself from being so pissed that Devon wanted to recruit Alice to his side.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Didn’t that mean he would have an excuse to spend a lot of time with her?
His chest tightened.
Why was that thought more maddening than the rest?
Just then, there was an explosion that shook the ground.
It came from the gym room.
They both looked up, only to see Alice flying out from the top floor.
Devon wasted no time teleporting mid-air and caught her.
He landed on his feet, his coat flapping gently behind him and he asked, “Are you okay?” Alice coughed and then looked up at Devon, who had this worried look on his face.
“How did you end up flying out of the room?” He asked yet another question.
“Well, that’s…” She scratched her head and smiled sheepishly and carelessly.
“I guess I got out of control.” Mark clenched his fists seeing Alice in Devon’s arms.
He heard his words, and he knew he couldn’t portray his own wishes for Alice but…
He looked at his hands and clenched them.
He could never compare himself to an S-class and he wasn’t even a good A-class.
What could he do?
Nothing.
He was useless.
Yet, he wished the best for Alice and hoped to protect her.
The irony of it all.
What was the name of this feeling, he wondered.
“That was crazy.” Devon said, “You could’ve really hurt yourself.” “Oh, that wouldn’t have happened,” she said, taking the situation lightly.
“Anyway, I achieved my goal, so it’s all good.” “Your goal?” He raised an eyebrow at her.
“Was flying through the sky your goal?” “Haha, you’re funny.
You can put me down now.” She said.
“I’ll show you.” He clenched the hand that was tightly wrapped around her waist before releasing his grip and placing her down.
He looked at his hand.
What was wrong with him?
She felt so small in his grasp, and though she was wearing a full-body jumpsuit, the layers seemed rather frail that it was almost like he was touching her actual skin, even through his gloves.
She was so tender to the touch.
No, what was he thinking?
He shook his head and tucked his hands back in his pocket.
It was crazy to even start thinking of her that way.
“Excuse me for a moment, Mark.” Alice said, and before Mark could understand what she was trying to do, she stretched her hand towards him, and a sudden force dragged him by the neck till he got to her, where she released the force.
Mark stopped just in time but was still so surprised by the force he experienced that he heaved while clutching his neck, as that had been the point of her draw.
“Are you okay?” She asked, a little panicked that she might’ve actually strangled him.
“I didn’t use my full strength so I wouldn’t hurt you.” He nodded, clutching his neck, and gave her a thumbs up.
“I’m okay.” He said and she sighed.
“Phew, that’s a relief.
Maybe I got too excited.
I don’t know how deadly this is yet so I worry.” “Miss Alice, what was that?” Devon asked and she smiled, displaying her full set of teeth.
“Oh, I got a new skill.
It’s actually a bonus.
It’s this cool gravity pull that allows me to pull my opponent into my grasp and deal with them.
Haha.” She laughed, proudly.
“And then I have the main skill which allows me to manipulate gravity as much as I want.” “Is that what you were doing with the weight?” Mark asked and she nodded.
“It’s a long story but to cut it short.
I had to fight gravity.
And that’s how I got this.” She said but then darted her eyes away, tapping the tips of her index fingers in guilt.
“Well, I did destroy more than half of the gym.
I’ll pay for it, I promise.
Just..
don’t get mad.” He looked at her, searching her face to make sure she was truly alright, and then sighed.
He was glad she was okay.
The gym getting destroyed wasn’t a big deal.
So long the rune was intact then it was all okay.
“So, Miss Alice, what does your other skill do?
Your gravity manipulation.” Devon asked, looking rather excited about it.
“Hm, as for that, I think I’ll need to test it on a real opponent.
I might hurt someone and I don’t want to try that with Mark again.” She said and then grinned, rubbing her arms together.
“So, Devon, do you want to be my practice buddy?” Devon immediately raised his hand in defense.
“I think I’ll pass.” “Oh, come on.” She nudged his shoulder.
“I don’t know what you came to do but since you’re here, won’t you just help me out a bit?
I promise you won’t die.” “Forgive me but I like to prioritize safety.
But who knows, an opponent might just walk through your door any minute.” He said but she scoffed.
“That’s not gonna happen.
How often does a big angry guy walk in through your door just to cause trouble?” She asked, and just then, the door burst open with what seemed to have been a wild punch.
Their eyes followed the flying door and then went back to the door to see who the wrecker was.
The wrecker was none other than Justin, who was here to get revenge, and he shamelessly walked in, with his lips widened in a grin.
“Where is she?
Where is that brat?
I’m here to collect my debt.” Devon shrugged his shoulders and said, answering Alice’s previous question, “As often as this, I suppose.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Hm, Justin’s finally back.
Come and be our lab rat, muhahahaha
