Chapter 94: It’s not like I have a line of handsome guys telling me they care about me Chapter 94: It’s not like I have a line of handsome guys telling me they care about me Humans are not without greed.
Alice knew that saying all too well.
She could not tell herself she was not greedy.
Fuck!
She had way too much greed to say she wasn’t.
But every greed differed, depending on what the person wanted and craved for.
Alice craved peace of mind, a roof above her head to shelter her from a storm.
A full kitchen that could feed her and never go empty.
Satisfaction of a peaceful life.
That was honestly what she craved for.
Her greed.
But then again, she couldn’t exactly have a peaceful life since she had been dragged into the fire and out of the pan, the moment Leo came into her life.
But at least…
The fire wasn’t so hot…
Yet.
“You certainly have your reasons for wanting me to join your guild, Guild master of the Snow guild.” She said.
“Will you say that you do not hold the same greed as those others who are trying hard to contact me and promise me the world, just to join their guild?” Devon took a moment, lowering his head slowly, and Alice wondered if he was trying to make an excuse.
He shouldn’t think of lying because she’d know.
At least, Leo would let her know.
She had her own lie detector in her head.
“You’re right, I am greedy.” He said and Mark clenched tightly the fork in his hand but didn’t act.
“I am not without fault and I ask myself, is it because I am selfish or because I care too much?” ‘What is he saying?’ Alice asked Leo.
*Your ears are working fine.
Listen carefully, idiot.* “I don’t know the basis of my own greed, but so long as I am trying to get what I want, even when I know the next person, you, may be uncomfortable about it, I know that’s an act of greed.
I want you, Miss Alice, to join my guild so I can have an excuse to see you.
An excuse to talk to you and an excuse to watch you, make sure you’re not getting into any trouble.
I want you to use the name of my guild to chase away anyone that could disturb your peace of mind.” He scratched his gloved hand.
“Yes, I am certain that is my greed.” He raised his head and smiled sadly, knowing his greed had been exposed.
Alice watched him smile sadly and actually felt his sad smile was…
pretty.

And then there was the nervous feeling she had.
She rubbed the back of her neck and averted her eyes.
What was he saying?
She still didn’t understand.
Leo asked her to listen carefully but that did not change anything.
He wanted to watch her?
Was she that much of a troublemaker?
Well, yes but…
An excuse to talk to her?
Why would he want an excuse to do that?
He could just come to Mark’s house and see her, couldn’t he?
Her heart was suddenly beating uncomfortably and she got worried.
Was she having a panic attack?
She wondered.
Was someone messing with her body from afar?
An enemy?
*Alice, calm down.
What you are experiencing is not a panic attack.* Leo said to her.
‘Then what is it?
I feel like my heart is going to explode.’ she pursed her lips.
*Well, it happens.
You are a 17-year-old girl.
What do you think will happen when a handsome guy confesses that he cares about you?* He asked her and she honestly didn’t have an answer to that.
‘I don’t know.
It’s not like I have a line of handsome guys telling me they care about me daily.’ she said and then stole a quick glance at Devon who was squeezing his hands together, probably worried that she would feel offended by his words.
‘Why does he even care about me?’ *Maybe because he’s a good guy and he can’t stand to see you suffer just because you’ve been alone almost all your life.* Leo pointed out and she pursed her lips.
‘Hm, that makes sense.
He is a good guy.’ Alice concluded and if Leo could roll his eyes, he would.
This girl was a lost cause when it came to romance.
He actually pitied anyone who would develop feelings for her.
(Speak for yourself) “Miss Alice,” Devon called, still looking worriedly at her.
“Did I make you uncomfortable with my words?” “What do you think?” Mark asked, showing his irritation at the sudden turn of events.
“My intentions were pure when I said those things and I did not mean anything else by it.” He said but Mark rolled his eyes.
“I won’t say it here but I’m sure you know it.
Alice is a ’17’ years old girl who just passed through thick and thin.” He stated, almost grinding his teeth in the process and placing emphasis on her age.
(Okay, aren’t we being a little hypocritical here?
I believe you have such feelings for this 17-year-old, Mark) “I know that very much.
You don’t need to worry.” Devon said, understanding his words clearly.
He wanted to believe he didn’t have such thoughts, but he could not deny that he was noticing little details of Alice that he didn’t even try to notice in other ladies.
Not the ones passing by on the street and neither the ones who approached him with such intentions.
Then…
Why was he noticing these things in a soon-to-be adult Alice?
He just didn’t understand.
“Phew!” Alice sighed and then drank the rest of her milk.
“Let’s just go back to talking about the guild.” She said.
“I have to join a guild, and so far, the only one who I know among the top five guilds, because I know I will have to join one of the top five, is Devon.” She stated.
“And just like you said, I like my peace of mind and wouldn’t want to be exploited either.
God knows what I would do if I let my anger get the best of me.
The building might come down.” She laughed but the two in front of her didn’t.
They were actually worried about that.
“I don’t want a lot of attention either.
So, I guess I’ll be going with the Snow Guild.
After all, this guild master already promised to give me anything I want.” She smiled, displaying her full set of teeth.
Luckily, there was nothing stuck between her teeth; if not, it would’ve made her awkward.
Devon and Mark stared at her smile.
She was smiling a lot these days and it was pretty.
It made her feel so much alive.
Then, Devon lowered his head and clenched his fists tightly.
“Miss Alice,” he called and she turned to him.
“When I said I would give you whatever you want, I actually lied.” He said, and Alice tilted her head.
He lied?
Then, he wasn’t going to give her whatever she wanted?
But it wasn’t like what she thought he was talking about.
He continued by saying, “I may be the guild master of one of the top five guilds in the country but I do not have everything.
I am not a God, so I am limited.
In that sense,” he raised his head and looked her in the eyes.
“I can only give you what I have, not whatever you want.
I’m sorry.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Author_fredah Devon is already winning brownie points, Mark.
You have to step up your game.
But then again, Alice will still like you if you do nothing.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work hard to get her.
Hurry up and win her over already
