Chapter 438: I may not be special, but you’re special to me
The car stopped at the parking lot at the foot of the mountain.
Just by looking at the number of parked cars, Sam knew there would be a lot of people at the church today.
“There are so many people here today.”
Looking up the stone-paved steps, he could see a sea of heads moving.
Hearing Sam’s comment, Celeste slowly got out of the car and smiled.
“There is never a shortage of people with religious faith. Even if everyone knows that it can’t really change their fate.”
“Then why do so many people come?” Selena asked curiously.
Celeste didn’t answer but looked at Sam.
The boy smiled and patted Selena’s head, explaining, “Because sometimes, when you do something like this, you feel like you’ve sincerely prayed to God, and it gives you peace of mind.”
“I don’t get it,” Selena said, looking confused. Sam thought for a moment and tried a simpler explanation.
“It’s like when you face a multiple-choice question you don’t know the answer to, and you throw four pieces of paper with A, B, C, and D written on them. Whichever one you pick, you fill in. Doesn’t it feel like the answer is a sign from God?”
Selena’s eyes widened, and she nodded.
“Now I get it. But when I do that, I often get it wrong! Is it because God doesn’t want to tell me the right answer?”
Sam laughed and shook his head.
Celeste, holding Selena’s hand, walked ahead. The mature, elegant woman and the cute, innocent girl made a beautiful pair.
Walking beside Sam, Angel squinted at the scene ahead.
“Didn’t expect you to be good with kids.”
Sam smiled. “Doesn’t that mean I’ll be a good husband and father in the future?”
Angel smiled back at him.
“You used to avoid talking about marriage. Now you bring it up yourself. Why?”
Sam blinked, trying to look as innocent and harmless as possible.
“Maybe it’s because I’ve grown up. When a man grows up, he takes on more responsibilities.”
Angel scoffed and looked at Sam.
“You better not be feeling guilty.”
Sam sighed inwardly.
This girl was really difficult today.
As they climbed the stone steps, the higher they went, the clearer the grand church on the mountainside became.
After praying at the church, Sam and Angel went outside early, standing on the mountainside, looking down at the dense crowd climbing up.
Angel gazed down, her eyes cold and distant, a familiar look for her.
This was her usual demeanor, not particularly special at this moment.

But Sam thought it was time to address some things. Constantly feeling pressured wasn’t good; it needed to be resolved.
So, after some hesitation, Sam spoke softly.
“Um… you went to bed early last night.”
Angel continued looking into the distance, her voice cold.
“It was already four in the morning. Is that early?”
Sam smiled wryly.
“True, it’s not early. But you were still replying to my messages…”
“Sam, do I have to be like a pitiful wife, waiting for her husband to come home after being with another woman before I can sleep?”
Her retort was sharp.
Of course, this was Angel’s nature, and Sam wasn’t surprised. In fact, her bluntness made him feel a bit relieved.
He smiled wryly, moving closer to Angel, trying to hold her hand.
But Angel pulled her hand away.
“Don’t touch me.”
Sam still managed to grasp her hand.
Holding it firmly, making it impossible for the proud girl who disliked public displays to pull away.
He looked at her annoyed expression and said.
“I promised I’d come back, and I did. It was just a bit late because there were no taxis.”
Angel scoffed.
“Why should I understand your difficulties? Do I need to understand if you’re torn between choices?”
Her aggression was evident, but Sam didn’t avoid her sharp gaze.
He spoke softly.
“I know it’s my fault. I’m not asking you to understand me. But from last night until now, I’ve been worried about you.”
Angel sneered.
“Worried about what? That I’m plotting something against you? After all, I’m not like Sophie. I can’t just wait obediently and act pitiful to get everything.”
Most people would be speechless under such an aggressive attitude.
But Sam maintained his calm expression, with a gentle smile, showing no embarrassment or discomfort. His eyes even softened.
He looked down at her and spoke softly.
“There’s no such thing as getting everything. And I said I’d never leave you. Forever means forever. Not a second less. I’ll marry you, and we’ll be happy together forever.”
Angel turned her head away disdainfully.
“Anyone can make promises. I don’t care.”
“I may not be special, but you’re special to me.”
“Sam, do you think I’m stupid? Do you think saying these things will make me forgive you? No, I don’t even care anymore. I’m starting to hate you.”
She said this, but Sam felt the softness and warmth of her hand.
She didn’t pull away.
Sometimes, it’s easy to tell if a girl has truly given up on you.
If she hasn’t immediately and eagerly left your side, there’s still hope.
So he gently squeezed Angel’s hand.
“Do you really hate me now?”
“What else? Should I praise you for coming back early? For not spending the whole night with Sophie?”
Sam smiled.
“I’m more considerate of you.”
“Stop playing dumb. I want you to be considerate only to me. I want your cock to belong only to me.”
Angel stared at Sam, as if demanding a clear answer.
But Sam knew he had already given his answer, and it wouldn’t change.
His goal was set, and there was no turning back.
It wasn’t stubbornness; it was fate. If Sam didn’t follow this path, he would eventually be killed by the other female leads.
So he looked at Angel seriously, not backing down from her intense gaze.
“I know, but this is how it has to be. We knew this from the start.”
