Chapter 503: Beginning (3).
€œLet€™s take a 15-minute time out to decide who will be participating in the competition, once the time is up, the competition will begin,€ proclaimed the Mage referee, with sword firmly strapped to his waist.
His Mana amplified voice reverberated throughout the Colosseum, ensuring everyone heard him clearly.
Alec and his team had just emerged from the changing room when the unexpected news reached their ears €“ that they would be the first to step onto the stage, setting the tone for the entire competition.
And It took them by surprise.
Dressed in flowing robes that transitioned from deep crimson to jet black, each team member proudly displayed the dual colours, that symbolised their academy€™s main colour.
The academy emblem was adorned on the left side of their chests, and customized headbands with the academy emblem were worn in various ways.
Alec opted to tie his around his left fist, resembling a glove.
It was an aesthetically pleasing touch, On the other hand, Brandon used the headband to secure his hair €“ a small, yet personal modification.
While the academy didn€™t provide any additional cultivation resources or spirit equipment for the competition, whoever was responsible for customizing their robes seemed to have an uncanny understanding of their preferences.
It almost felt as if the robes were specially tailored for each of them.
Amidst Alec€™s confusion about the upcoming match, Selene approached him, bringing a sense of relief as he knew she would explain everything that was perplexing him.
€œSo, have you decided which five of you will be competing in this round?€ Selene inquired, directing her question towards Alec.
He scratched his head, since he was still uncertain about the abilities of most of his teammates he was unaware who to pick.
Because to accurately assess their strengths and weaknesses, Alec needed to witness them in battle.
Currently, the only one he could confidently vouch for was himself, so instead of dwelling too long on the decision, Alec opted for a roundabout approach, searching for the best strategy.
€œDo we have any information on the other team€™s power levels?€ Alec inquired, seeking to gather more insights about their upcoming opponents.
Selene€™s eyes squinted slightly in response to Alec€™s nonchalant attitude, but she still retained great trust in him.
Given the team they were facing, she had no doubts that they could easily overcome the challenge if Alec unleashed all his golems, however, Alec had a different approach in mind.
€œWell, the other team doesn€™t seem to be making much effort to conceal their power level, especially since they registered for the competition, finding their cultivation level is actually quite straightforward,€ Selene explained, causing Alec to look at her with a perplexed expression, she shook her head to emphasize her point.
€œThe moment we enrolled and received our competition talisman, our cultivation realm became linked to the inter-academy committee€™s database, this means that others can also discover our realm, just like we can learn about theirs, however, this connection will be severed after the competition, as not all mages appreciate having their advancements monitored or used against them,€ Agnes interjected, stepping forward to clarify things for a confused Alec.
€œI suppose you haven€™t gone through the rule book either!
Let me cut straight to the chase based on the research I€™ve done on the Bandit Academy team, they have two Low Tier 5 mages leading their ranks €“ the captain and the vice captain of the team.€
€œConsidering the name of their academy, I don€™t think I even need to explain their abilities, don€™t expect a fair fight from this team.
Additionally, they have five peak-tier 4 mages and the remaining slot is filled with high-tier 4 mages.€
€œ If you ask me, they would be putting together their best team, aiming to swiftly defeat you all and send a strong message,€ Agnes disclosed.
€œIn fact, if you ask me, they are the favourites to win this battle, currently, only you and Lucas are High Tier 4 mages on our team, we don€™t have any peak Tier 4 mages, let alone a Low Tier 5 mage.€
€œ So the betting odds for you are so high that anyone who bets on you would gain a fortune,€ Selene exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
€œPlease tell me you didn€™t bet all of your money, Miss Selene,€ Alec asked, feeling a headache coming on.
He knew from his previous experience in the Sweden city that Selene had a habit of gambling, he could only hope that she had repented, but her response shattered his expectations.
€œHell no, I didn€™t bet all my money,€ Selene replied, Alec let out a sigh of relief, realizing that she hadn€™t completely lost control.
€œI bet half of my money and all the power crystals that were reserved for your team as accommodation fees at the Capital Arena Inn, that if by some miracle you manage to enter the Top eight,€ Selene explained.

Alec ,who was already feeling a wave of relief, couldn€™t help but slam his hand onto his face in defeat.
The rest of the team was quite surprised to witness this side of Selene.
€œWell, it€™s simple, really.
All you have to do is defeat those little bandits and make me rich, mind you, if you dare lose, I will lock you all up in my Embryo Water Domain for an entire week and let you experience the sensation of drowning repeatedly,€ Selene declared, her gaze sweeping over the entire team, except for Alec, she turned to Alec last.
€œI made you captain, which means I€™m quite familiar with your strength, although I€™m not certain how much you€™ve grown, I believe with the numerical advantage on your side, you won€™t lose easily.€
€œ So, I€™m ordering you this instant,€ she paused, her usual lacklustre attitude replaced by a serious tone.
€œAs your substitute instructor, do everything within your power to ensure victory!€
Alec closed his eyes and nodded solemnly in response.
€œLeave it to me.€
€œKatie, Agnes, Sophia, Pale-you€™ll be joining me in the first round, i don€™t care what tactics you choose to employ, Sophia and I will stay back to protect our flag,€ Alec instructed, his voice carrying the weight of his resolve.
€œYou€™re free to fight with all your might, so you can leave the capturing of the flag to me as well, but if you feel you are capable to do it instead, don€™t hesitate to seize it.€ His final words were directed at Pale, offering a nod of encouragement.
€œIf that€™s all, let€™s go win our first match and restore the name of the War God Mage to everyone€™s lips,€ Alec said as he led the way, with Katie, Agnes, Sophia, and Pale following in his wake.
Selene, meanwhile, guided the rest of the team to the area reserved for their team€™s bench.
€œWhy?€ Endrick inquired, a hint of confusion lacing his voice.
€œHmmm,€ Selene murmured, turning back to glance at Endrick, who was watching Alec and his team stride toward the center of the Colosseum.
Emerging from the opposite side, their opponents from the Bandit Academy also approached, boasting two Tier 5 mages and three other peak Tier 4 mages.
They had indeed brought their full strength to the match, just as Selene had anticipated.
€œWhy hasn€™t he used the strongest team?
We€™re already at a disadvantage, and no matter how I look at it, the one I respect the most should have fielded his best line-up.€
€œ Yet, he€™s chosen a team that seems to have little chance of success.
Why would you allow him to do this when you€™ve wagered on him winning?€ Endrick questioned, his tone laced with concern and a desire to understand Selene€™s reasoning.
