The Golem Mage - Chapter 579
Chapter 579: Petty.
Chapter 579: Petty.
Alec€™s gaze remained fixed on the miniature soul form of the Golden Horned Drake, which had materialized above the lifeless body.
He recognized it as a soul form due to his previous experiences from devouring the souls of shadow wolves from the Beast Forest, and due to witnessing how Oni devoured souls from fallen enemies, so he was somewhat accustomed to the appearance of soul forms.
However, he had not expected such a manifestation to emerge from the deceased demonic beast.
Alec speculated that this scenario unfolded because the soul had sensed the imminent threat of being devoured and had manifested in a defensive bid.
Unfortunately for the soul, it proved unlucky to have cross paths with the Level 2 branch.
With a single forceful swat from the wooden hand, the soul form was sent hurtling toward Alec.
Reacting instinctively, Alec tapped into the powers of his Devourer Bloodline the moment he sensed the soul hurtling toward him.

Meanwhile, wearing a smile, the Dean sat in the living room, facing the two instructors, Jasper and Phil.
They had all heard the roaring sound of the Golden Horned Drake from Alec€™s room using their Mental energy, however, rather than immediately rushing to Alec€™s aid, the instructors found amusement in observing the unfolding events without helping.
While the Dean maintained his gaze fixed on Alec€™s door, eager to see if anything more would occur.
Just as they focused on Alec€™s door, the door of Selene€™s room burst open as she attempted to dash towards Alec€™s room.
However, she abruptly halted herself mid-movement, using her leg to come to a stop, she turned to the side, noticing the Dean raising his hand to signal her to halt.
It had become a habitual practice for Selene to release her mental energy to check on the team for an hour before commencing her own cultivation.
Thus, when she sensed unusual soul fluctuations emanating from Alec€™s room, she had made an attempt to reach his room, presuming that he might be experimenting with another spell indoors or he was being attacked.
As Selene€™s thoughts raced, she couldn€™t help but worry about the cost of repairing the rooms as the building was not under the War God Mage Academy, she momentarily forgot that these rooms were enchanted, thanks to her own paranoia.
In truth, she wasn€™t supposed to hear any sound from within the rooms.
Sound runes were in place specifically to prevent others from overhearing what transpired inside, however, the roaring that Selene had heard earlier was a result of her meddling with her mental energy.
As the runes were not designed to block the infiltration of mental energy.
€œYou can€™t go in,€ the Dean asserted firmly.
€œBut I just heard a loud roaring coming from his room, It seems like he€™s in some type of danger,€ Selene responded almost instantly, concerned for Alec colouring her voice.
€œRest assured, he isn€™t currently in any trouble, I haven€™t heard any groaning or screaming, which indicates that he hasn€™t yet been attacked by the soul,€ the Dean reassured her, trying to alleviate her worries.
€œThe soul?€ Selene initially looked at the Dean in surprise, before then realizing that Alec had requested a Tier 6 Demonic beast.
Until now, she had mistakenly believed that they were under attack by another group or he was experimenting with Mid Tier spells inside his room like he did previously.
€œStudent Selene, ease your concerns, with the Dean acting as a guard, I highly doubt anyone would be foolish enough to conduct a blatant attack on us,€ Jasper interjected, Selene couldn€™t help but let out a scoff at his comment.
€œIt€™s €˜Major.€™ If you€™re going to address me, refer to me by my rank, you don€™t know me, so I don€™t appreciate your condescending tone or casually using my name without respect,€ Selene retorted with a heavy tone.
She fixed a challenging gaze on the instructor before her, displeased with the way he addressed her.
She refused to let him undermine her achievements in leading the team to their current position by relegating her to the status of a mere student.
Under normal circumstances, Selene wouldn€™t mind if someone like Edward called her by that name or just student.

However, for these two instructors before her, individuals without rank, to address her in such a manner only served to aggravate her further.
The War God Academy was established as a military institution, requiring everyone to face the relentless onslaught of enemies from the Blood Moon or inside the space passage.
However, not every instructor was obligated to undertake these duties, it was primarily the students€™ responsibility, as they could be hired by cities to aid in defence and other matters.
General Edward, with his high rank and the vast number of mages at his disposal, was in high demand on battlefields.
In contrast, the instructors who remained at the academy were often looked down upon by students who had shed blood in these battles.
As these instructors€™ battle prowess had become severely out matched to their own realm, rendering them relatively inexperienced and seen as novices.
It was this reason why Edward preferred to use his general title rather than being referred to as an instructor, as he doesn€™t want to be linked to some instructors.
€œDean, why is Alec being attacked by the soul of a demonic beast?€ Selene directed her question towards the Dean, diverting her attention to him.
€œDoesn€™t the answer to that question seem obvious?€ the Dean replied casually.
€œHe requested a Tier 6 Demonic beast, and since buying one from the capital€™s beast stores proved to be exorbitantly expensive, I was left with no choice but to travel to the nearby wilderness forest and personally slay a peak Tier 6 Demonic beast to bring it here for him,€
€œ If not for the distance it wouldn€™t have taken this long to get a demonic beast€ the Dean explained nonchalantly, closing his eyes and focusing his mental energy to enhance his auditory perception of the sounds emanating from Alec€™s room.
€œYou mean to tell me that you gave him a demonic beast you slayed yourself without extracting its soul?€ Selene questioned, a visible expression of surprise on her face.
€œYes, that€™s correct, after all he never did mention wanting the demonic beast without a soul, and extracting a soul takes a significant amount of energy.
Plus, since I was the one who is responsible for its death, the demonic beast soul would likely hold more resentment toward me, even for someone like me, it would be a burden,€ the Dean replied, his gaze returning to Alec€™s room.
Selene found it difficult to believe what she was hearing.
The Dean hadn€™t extracted the soul, and his explanation seemed to stem from his exhaustion, however, Selene detected an undercurrent in his words, as if he were trying to punish Alec for something undisclosed.
€œDon€™t worry, if he starts to make any sounds of pain, I€™ll be able to sense it and enter in time to save him, perhaps that will make him more grateful and respectful, rather than maintaining his nonchalant facade.€
€œ If I want the entire team to hold me in high regard, I must start with their captain,€ the Dean stated, attempting to reassure Selene.
However, instead of alleviating her concerns, his words only served to expose his pettiness.
Selene began to see through the Dean€™s pleasant demeanour.
Beneath his smile lay a cunning mastermind, someone who acted kind but harboured dark intentions.
