The Golem Mage - Chapter 697
Chapter 697: Zombies Again.
Chapter 697: Zombies Again.
# In the City of Estonia
The space gate had finally accumulated enough energy, and the moon in the sky turned a deep red, as the small group of mages from the clans and the city guards army gathered to defend against this wave of the Blood Moon War grew increasingly nervous.
Many of them gripped their weapons tightly, anxiously awaiting the first goblin to emerge from the space gate, with the gate now fully stabilized, there was movement within the expanded portal, which had widened due to its evolution from a mid to a high rank space gate.
But to their surprise, about a thousand figures emerged from the gate every second looking lost and aimlessly walking around, however, the defenders neither charged nor casted spells at the invaders, instead, they appeared perplexed by the situation.
€œThis…
This isn€™t goblins,€ remarked one of the mages from a newly clans that moved into Estonia city, confused by the unexpected appearance of an unknown race.
€œIdiot!
Why are you standing there lost?
Those are zombies!
Raise your shields!€ shouted a member of the city guard, his voice booming as he noticed the bewildered demeanour of those meant to stand with them in battle.
He silently cursed whoever was responsible for their lack of knowledge, deeply concerned about facing zombies with such people without the normal knowledge of zombies.
They had grown accustomed to battling goblins, even if they hadn€™t won a Blood Moon battle decisively since the Gordons began taking their holidays seriously.
But now, they were confronted with by a branch of the Undead race (zombies.), and this development worried the city guard leaders, who wondered if the zombies would prove to be a more formidable opponent that they were in the past considering they just took the space gate back from the goblins.
€œThere is no need for fear, look ahead the ones we face are nothing more than low-rank zombies, with mostly Tier 1 and unclassified realm zombies filling their ranks.€
€œ Let€™s fight to our hearts€™ content and earn merit points,€ encouraged a Tier 3 commander from one of the newly moved clans, rallying his people to cheer louder.
At this moment, the number of zombies emerging from the space gate had surpassed one hundred thousand.
Yet, the careless Tier 3 clan commander had inspected their realms and deemed them unworthy opponents, failing to understand their true danger.
The zombies, drawn by the noise he raised, suddenly turned toward Estonia City, sensing the presence of life, they unleashed deafening roars and began to charge toward the lower ranks stationed closest to the gate.
The Tier 3 city guard commander gritted his teeth in fury, his mind consumed with the thought of beheading the fool commander who had provoked the horde and directed their attention toward their location.
While the newly moved clans regarded the mass of zombies as mere low-rank pests to be eliminated, the commander saw them different, he saw them as a deadly plague, one to avoid at all costs if possible.
And his apprehension wasn€™t unfounded, after all he had faced zombies before, unlike the inexperienced clans, the city guards were well-acquainted with the undead.
They knew that, despite their lower realms, zombies in vast numbers could overwhelm even High rank mages.
Their sheer volume was often enough to make the most seasoned warriors retreat, unwilling to risk being overrun.
But what made zombies truly terrifying wasn€™t just their numbers, it was their capacity to evolve.
Zombies could grow stronger at an alarming rate, and in the absence of someone capable of restraining them quickly, any battle could swiftly turn into a losing one.
Worse, those who fell in battle would rise again as zombies, joining the horde and turning against their former comrades.
The most painful truth was that the higher the rank of the mage who fell, the stronger the resulting zombie, these evolved undead are known as unique zombies, were far more dangerous than the mindless creatures that merely followed the scent of the living.
Unique zombies could include Strength Type 1 zombies, Agility Type 1 zombies, Mental Type 1 zombies, Hunter Type 1 zombies, and more.
When a significant number of such unique zombies arose after a battle, the opposing side had a staggering 95% chance of losing the battle.
Worse, a single scratch from these creatures could spread their infection, swelling the ranks of the zombies, for the city guards of Estonia City, fighting zombies had never been a fair fight.

It was a relentless cycle of loss, as brave soldiers would fall and rise as zombies, which would slaughter their former comrades, perpetuating the carnage until the Blood Moon ended, in which the smarter and more evolved unique zombies would retreat back through the space gate.
However, they often left behind some of the low-rank zombies, those without who were not quick enough to escape back to the space gate, with their low intelligence and lack of leadership they aimlessly wandering near the city gates.
And the task of clearing these remnants typically fell to the city guards, adding to the already exhausting ordeal.
These factors alone made zombies one of the most feared members of the Undead race to face on the blood moon war.
Yet, what baffled the Estonia city guards and their leaders the most was the apparent endlessness of the zombie horde.
No matter how many were slain, the zombies always seemed to replenish their Low rank numbers in time for the next Blood Moon War.
This time, however, things were different, as for the first wave of the battle, the city faced a massive surge of €œa hundred thousand€ zombies, placing immense pressure on the city guards, who held a deeper understanding of the undead menace.
€œI think we€™ll need to intervene and reduce their numbers.
It would be a shame to lose so many mages,€ Sir Marcus muttered, his hand instinctively moving to the hilt of his sword.
As he prepared to make the first move, intending to thin out the enormous horde of zombies charging forward.
But before he could act, a sharp swish sound cut through the air, the sound reverberated, drawing the attention of every Tier 7 mage who is present to defend the city.
All their eyes turned toward the space gate, and what they saw emerging caused their hearts to tremble.
When it was revealed that rather than goblins they were going to face zombies, the High Tier mages had assumed the battle wouldn€™t require them to face enemies of similar strength.
As the zombies were known to deploy overwhelming numbers of weaker rank soldiers, relying on sheer volume to overwhelm their opponents.
Typically, the stronger Mid Tier zombies would only rise from infected mages during the battle, while high-rank zombies were a rarity, as they almost never emerged from the space gate in Estonia city before.
Those who transformed into unique zombies and survived the war would retreat through the gate once the Blood Moon ended, never to be seen again.
But now, stepping out of the gate, stood approximately 40 mid-rank zombies and 25 high-tier zombies.
Their distinct auras and evolved physical forms left no doubt that they were unique zombies, far beyond the mindless masses the city guards were accustomed to.
For the first time, the Estonia city Tier 7 defenders were facing a force of evolved undead straight from the gate, and the gravity of the situation hit them like a storm.
The Tier 7 mages of Estonia City exchanged uneasy glances, their confusion evident.
The Darkbliss Patriarch, the only representative from his clan present, was the first to break the silence.
€œHow do we deal with this?€ he asked, his tone laced with concern.
The presence of high-rank zombies troubled him deeply.
As if even a single high-rank mage were to be infected or killed, it could lead to a swift and devastating collapse of their defences.
After all fighting against low-rank zombies is already fraught with danger; as even in such situations its often for mid rank mages to fall or get infected.
Who€™s to say it couldn€™t happen now, especially with a Type 3 zombies ( High Rank zombies) appearing for the first time.
