The Golem Mage - Chapter 765
Chapter 765: Moving Out.
Chapter 765: Moving Out.
The clash of swords and bursts of magic echoed across the battlefield as the human mages engaged in fierce combat with the advancing zombie horde, meanwhile, the high rank mages and Type 3 zombies remained in their respective positions, silently observing the battlefield below them, neither side making a move yet as if keeping each other in check.
But the high rank mages weren€™t the only humans watching the battle, as from atop the hill, the Gordons mages stood still, their eyes fixed on the chaotic battle unfolding barely a hundred meters ahead of them.
Further in the distance, the Mid rank skirmishes raged on, their lack of movement amidst the bloodshed didn€™t go unnoticed, as the high rank mages from the newer clans, unfamiliar with the Gordons€™ true strength, viewed their inaction with disdain.
Even the city commanders wore scornful expressions, displeased by the Gordons€™ refusal to join the fight.
However, they held their tongues for now, convinced that it was only a matter of time before the battle would reach them, with no efforts to conceal themselves, they were bound to attract the attention of the zombies.
Soon, more and more of the Zombies would be drawn to their presence, swarming toward them due to the sheer pull of their life force, and with no reinforcements from the other clans, many high-rank mages began to picture the Gordons being overwhelmed and wiped out, a thought born less from logic and more from jealousy.
To some, the Gordons€™ show of strength was infuriating, they resented that, unlike the other clans, the Gordons had yet to suffer heavy losses in past Blood Moon Wars, their clan remained one of the least affected by the relentless conflicts that had weakened the city€™s forces over the months.
But five minutes into the battle, all thoughts of the Gordons faded.
The mages could no longer afford to dwell on them, as the fight seems to be taking a grim turn, before their eyes, the low rank human mages were already losing ground, their ranks thinning at an alarming rate.
No matter how many spells were cast or defences erected, it never seemed to be enough, the reason was simple, it was because the sheer number of zombies was overwhelming.
The human mages were vastly outnumbered, forced to hold back thousands of zombies while barely thinning their ranks, all without the aid of large-scale destructive spells, the relentless pressure was quickly wearing down the city guards.
Positioned at the very front, the city guards bore the brunt of the battle first hand, they had the greatest combat strength among the human mages and, aside from the Gordons, they were the only ones who had brought shields to the battlefield.
Their strategy was simple yet effective, the front line held their ground with shields raised while those behind them struck down the zombies.
When the first line grew tired, the second line, which was initially attacking, would swiftly sheath their weapons and bring out their shields.
For a brief moment, they would form a double-layered shield wall, then the first line would then have a chance to retreat at high speed, creating a dangerous opening that some sharp-witted zombies tried to exploit.
However, those that attempted to push through were met with brutal shield slams to their skulls, halting their advance, the second line would then lower their shields almost immediately to seamlessly take over the position of their predecessors, maintaining an unbroken defence, and that is what causes the skull crushing.
This disciplined rotation was the only thing keeping the city guards from being overwhelmed, the Tier leaders of the city guards ensured strict timing, preventing any mage from exhausting themselves before switching out.
The coordination between the lines was crucial, it was the very reason the city guards had held their ground for so long.
But as the battle dragged on, the situation worsened, the mages from the various clans, who had been supporting from behind with bombardment spells, had finally exhausted their mana reserves.
With no more magical pressure forcing them back, the zombies pushed forward with renewed ferocity.
And it only took five more minutes before the inevitable happened, a critical breach in the city guards€™ formation.
And that was when all hell broke loose.
The moment the formation broke, the Tier leaders struggled to reorganise the mages under them swiftly in a retreating formation, but some of them were getting scratched in the chaos.
Meanwhile, the clan mages, who had been hiding behind the city guards, relying on them for protection while casting spells, panicked instantly, and their fears made them easy targets, as the zombies seemed to instinctively identify and go after the weakest prey.
One by one, clan mages were cut down, unable to keep up with the city guards€™ disciplined retreat.
While some Exposed their backs to the zombies which sealed their fate, it was a massacre, watching the disaster unfold from atop the hill, Alec shook his head, his judgment swift and final.
€œWhat a bunch of greenhorns, well, either way, it€™s time for us to make our move,€ he said, his tone calm despite the carnage below.
The Gordons mages, who had been itching for battle since they arrived, let out a collective sigh of relief.

They had been holding themselves back as they felt stronger than ever, and were eager to test their new spirit equipment in combat, watching the human mages die so easily had only made their restlessness worse.
They wanted to charge in and turn the tide, but none dared defy their general€™s orders (Alec had insisted they call him €œGeneral€ instead of €œYoung Master€ or €œBoss.€)
€œHave you found where all the Type 1 mental zombies are hiding?€ Alec asked Legion, who stood beside him.
Legion nodded in confirmation, as the surrounding sub Tier leaders under Alec were shocked, not only was there a Type 3 mental zombie controlling the horde, but there were also multiple hidden low-rank mental-type zombies among them.
And the one who had pinpointed them all was none other than the newly evolved Legion.
