The Golem Mage - Chapter 785
Chapter 785: Still Competitors 3.
#A Few Minutes Earlier
As Titan rampaged through the Tier 6 Mutated Zombies, Legion turned toward Alec with a question.
“Master, if you won’t mind me asking, you’ve given Titan free rein to move as he likes because he’s in the Tier 6 realm and practically can dominate the mid-rank battlefield, and killing him is close to impossible unless a Tier 7 is deployed there.”
“And even if a slightly strong Tier 7 zombie were dispatched, as long as he stays close to his golems and maintains his Domain, he would be able to survive even if he couldn’t kill his opponent, right?”
Legion’s question made Alec furrow his brows, wondering where this crafty golem was trying to lead the conversation, but he decided to entertain him and replied honestly by nodding his head, only for Legion’s next words to make him laugh, even though it also put him in a tight spot.
“Does that mean I’m also allowed a free role in this battlefield? After all, not only am I a Tier 6 golem, but I also have a ten-golem squad with proper synchronization, just like Titan has ten, and despite lacking a Domain, our weapon mastery and special abilities more than make up for that. Wouldn’t you agree, Master?”
Legion might have started this off as a simple question, but as time went on, it had clearly turned into a comparison between the two Tier 6 golems under Alec, and that was what made Alec laugh out loud.
From the very beginning, Legion had always been competitive and had always strived to stay ahead of Titan.
But being Alec’s most reliable shield and the most destructive force in war had given Titan an edge, allowing him to advance faster.
And ever since Titan surpassed Legion at the Tier 3 realm, he had worked relentlessly to stay ahead, as he had no intention of relinquishing his position as Alec’s most advanced golem.
Despite all that, Legion had never truly fallen behind, he had always remained close, just a step away, his competitiveness pushing him forward.
And that was how the two strongest and most diverse golems under Alec continued to sharpen themselves, pushing each other forward down the path of cultivation.
“Yes, you’re given free rein, just like Titan. You can move through the battlefield on your own terms, you don’t have to stick so close to me all the time. It’s not like I don’t have enough bodyguards around me,” Alec finally replied, giving Legion the answer he had been waiting for.
Alec even went so far as to reassure him, making it clear that there were plenty of other golems stationed closer to him, so much so that he was rarely ever alone, with this validation, Legion no longer held back.
He waved his left hand forward, signalling his unit to follow as he began constructing his sniper rifle.
“Can I also move with free control?” Butcher asked.
Before he could even finish his sentence, a sharp knock landed on his head, delivered by Alec himself.
A small electric current surged through Butcher’s body, scorching him slightly, but he barely reacted, instead, he made sure his own knock hit just as hard, straight onto Tempest Butcher’s head.
“Enter the Tier 6 realm before you even ask me that,” Alec said firmly.
At those words, a glint flashed in the eyes of nearly every golem near Alec, they all dreamed of reaching Tier 6, of becoming stronger, of truly being able to support their master in ways they couldn’t yet.

#Back to the Present
This was the reason why Legion had been able to move freely through the battlefield, and why he was able to intercept Titan before he could land the killing blow on the mental-type zombie, effectively stealing his kill.
Even though Alec knew that eliminating the mental-type zombie wouldn’t significantly weaken the mid-rank battlefield, he was still optimistic about their overall impact and wanted them gone.
This was all part of his plan to shift command of the mid-rank army away from the Type 3 Mental Zombie control entirely.
Since he had already gone out of his way to infuriate the Type 3 Mental Zombie, he was determined to see his plan through to the end.
Bang!
Legion and Titan locked heads, their auras clashing violently, just a few feet away, the Ice Golems and Cybernetic Golems stood at the ready, weapons raised, looking like they would jump into battle at any moment against each other.
The Cybernetic Golems raised their guns, aiming at the Ice Golems, who in turn had their weapons locked onto their cybernetic counterparts. One of them was even prepared to unleash a barrage of ice spikes the moment the fight broke out.
“You piece of metal! How dare you steal my kill?! You know I had him!”

Titan, who had maintained the image of a cool-headed and efficient killer ice golem since he stepped forward in the battlefield, finally snapped. As he tried to push Legion backward from where their heads were pressed together in a fierce standoff.
But Legion wasn’t one to back down.
“Hell no! It looked like you were about to mess up the kill, you ice dummy, so I did you a favour. Look on the bright side, we Cybernetic Golems are already leading in mental-type zombie kills. Are you sure this is how you want to waste the rest of your time?”
Legion’s tone was just as furious as he pushed back, neither of them willing to yield.
Alec, watching their childish brawl unfold from a distance, let out an exasperated sigh.
“Looks like you all will have to handle things yourselves, your seniors have started again,” he muttered, shifting his focus back to the mid-rank battlefield.
—
At the clashing point where the city forces’ mid-rank mages battled against the zombies, the situation was worsening.
As the mages were losing momentum, struggling to hold the zombies back, the undead forces were pushing toward the human side with relentless pressure.
On the left flank, however, the Gordon Mages were proving to be a game-changer, though they were vastly outnumbered, their killing efficiency took the other mid-rank mages by surprise.
Using specialized spells assigned to them by Alec in long range, they ripped through the advancing zombie hordes with lethal precision, their mastery of the Evolved Earth Spear was particularly devastating, it required far less mana than most mid-tier spells while delivering just as much destructive power.
Alongside their spears, they strategically used earthquakes to disorient and slow down the zombies, making them easier targets.
Earth walls of varying sizes were also erected at key locations, forcing the undead into dead ends or into kill zones where the mages could easily eliminate them.
Despite their efforts to keep the zombies at bay, it wasn’t because they feared close combat, far from it, any zombie unlucky enough to close the gap met a horrific end.
Leading the charge were the Tier 4 mages, their spirit equipment sets and weapons augmented their strength to terrifying levels, they were walking slaughterhouses, cutting through the undead without hesitation as their weapon mastery that they trained under Alec started to bore fruit, and then there were the lone hunters, mages who fought independently, taking down their targets with lethal precision.
Aka : Arthur the Silver Flash, Knight the Shadow Knight, Agnes the Witch of Water and Earth, Endrick the Versatile Mage, Sophia the Warp Mage.
In just ten minutes, these five had terrorized the battlefield so thoroughly that the Gordon Mages had already come up with nicknames for all of them.
