Chapter 787: Gordons Younger Generation Six Moons 2.
Despite the fact that Knight had advanced to the mid-rank, he still couldn’t cast his shadow spells instantaneously, this was proof of how deep and complex the shadow element truly was, only a high-rank shadow mage with enough proficiency could perform such a spell effortlessly, even without even it’s chants.
Though while it might seem like his cool down time hadn’t improved much, or had even increased when carrying someone, the spell itself had evolved in other ways.
Its stealth had become far more refined, and the strikes he delivered after emerging from the shadows now carried additional power. Alec had personally pushed him to refine this particular spell while also practicing what the others focused on and that is mastering their assigned Tier 5 spells .
As a result, Knight had only managed to advance that certain shadow travel spell to Intermediate Level 1, but even that was enough to make him a terror on the battlefield, embodying what it means to be a true assassin-class mage.
And Sophia played a significant role in his development, her understanding of her own abilities have grown rapidly thanks to Alec’s guidance and insights.
Unlike the others, they weren’t concerned with thinning out the Tier 4 numbers, with cool downs attached to their most powerful abilities, they focused entirely on eliminating key Tier 5 zombies, the main fighting force of the Mid rank horde.
But against Agility-type zombies, they came the closest to death.
The agility-type zombies reacted unnervingly fast to their attacks, even when they struck from the shadows, at Tier 5, these creatures didn’t just have the fastest movement speed, they also had the quickest reaction time and attack speed.
The first agility-type zombie they encountered nearly killed Knight, as the moment he and Sophia emerged from its shadow, it swung its arm backward in a lightning-fast strike, without even turning around, as if it had sensed them without sight.
The sheer speed of the attack caught Knight completely off guard, he hadn’t even launched his strike yet, but the zombie’s claw was already inches away.
It was so fast that, for a split second, he could feel the phantom sensation of his head being sliced off before the claws even made contact.
Just when Knight thought he was about to be critically injured, an unexpected saving grace intervened, as he felt something swirling around the exact spot where the zombie’s claw had been aiming.
Sophia, who had been right beside him, had instinctively cast a small, swirling shadow portal that merged seamlessly with his face like a mask. So the moment the agility-type zombie’s claw struck, instead of tearing into Knight’s head, it disappeared into the black void of the portal.

Sophia finally completed her spell, pointing at the zombie’s chest, and then a second, smaller shadow portal appeared right in front of its ribcage, and the zombie’s own claw, which is now emerging from the new portal, plunged straight all the way into its heart.
The creature let out a pained shriek, its heart had been pierced, but since it had already been dead once, this wasn’t a fatal wound, only a headshot type of attack would truly end it, however, the pain from having its own greatest weapon, it’s claw tear open it’s own chest was real, and for a split second, the zombie hesitated.
That brief moment was all Knight needed, as his hands twirled, and in the next instant, he leaped into the air, with his legs wrapped around the agility type so as not to fall off, before driving his daggers repeatedly into the zombie’s skull until it collapsed, lifeless.
And just like that, their deadly partnership began.
Knight couldn’t explain it, nor did he need to, Alec had simply told them to stick together and fight as a unit, unlike Arthur and the others who moved independently.
At first, Knight had assumed Alec saw him as the weakest link, while Sophia believed she had been paired with him for protection, but after only a few hunts of Tier 5 mutated zombies, they quickly realized just how well they complemented each other.
Not only did their shared shadow abilities allow them to execute devastating combos, but their fighting styles naturally synchronized in a way that made them one of the deadliest teams on the battlefield, capable of taking on enemies even the others chose to avoid.
This was how the five of them dominated the battlefield, carving a name for themselves, their relentless assault had drawn the attention of the main zombie army that had been facing the city forces’ mid-rank mages.
And it wasn’t just the Tier 5 and Tier 4 mutated zombies this time, now, even a few Tier 6 zombies were beginning to shift their focus toward the Gordons’ mid-rank team, recognizing the growing threat they posed.
Alec, still seated atop Midnight, observed the unfolding battle, his mind working tirelessly to devise a swift way to end the mid-rank zombie horde faster before his clan mages start to grow tired of battling such high numbers zombies.
He believed that if the mid-rank army was wiped out, the high-rank mutated zombies, despite their advantage over the human mages, would be forced to retreat back into the space gate.
After all, without an army to breach the city and convert more humans into zombies, their continued assault would be pointless, the high-rank battle would take much longer before they had a chance to overrun the city’s defences, and by then, the Blood Moon might already have ended.
As he watched, Alec noted how the Gordons were redirecting a portion of the zombie army to the side, giving the Estonia city other forces a much-needed breather.
Even the Lanzt forces were biding their time, waiting for the perfect moment to move under the Gordons banner in the Mid rank battlefield.
Meanwhile, Titan and Legion, having settled on a bet over who could kill the most mental-type zombies, had resumed their selective hunting. The two squads were nearly untouchable on the battlefield, unless they were intercepted by a large group of Tier 6 zombies. But with Alec’s strategic efforts so far, their numbers had already been thinned considerably.
That’s when the realization struck him.

If he could completely wipe out the remaining Tier 6 zombies, Titan and Legion would be free to act without restraint, eliminating the mental-type zombies at an even faster rate.
This, in turn, would leave the city’s Tier 6 mages with no major threats to hold them back, allowing them to accelerate the collapse of the entire zombie army.
Alec exhaled, already accepting what needed to be done.
“Well… looks like I have to be bait again,” he muttered, his gaze sharpening as he contemplated how to once more draw the Type 3 mental zombie’s attention to himself.
