The Golem Mage - Chapter 791
Chapter 791: Beat Down 1.
The moment the agility-type zombie realized Alec was heading straight for it, it spread out its right hand, and before Alec’s eyes, the muscles of its right arm contorted and fused together, forming a massive blade.
The blade extended all the way to its elbow, where another curved blade jutted backward, creating a deadly, multi-edged weapon, but what truly shocked Alec was the fact that this agility-type zombie had transformed its own limb into a weaponized blade.
This was a new development even for Alec, cause he had never seen such before and hadn’t been aware that agility-type zombies were capable of such mutations, he could assume for the main time that this particular zombie’s evolution was unique.
All of this happened in a split second, as the zombie raised its bladed hand the next, with the bladed hand now engulfed in blazing green flames, just from a glance, Alec instinctively knew that he couldn’t afford to let those flames touch him.
Because something about them felt more than just deadly, they seemed infectious, and for someone without an antidote to the zombie virus, getting burned by that fire was not an option.
But backing down was never on Alec’s agenda, as the momentum of his jump started to die down, he ignited red flames beneath his feet, pushing himself forward, he was still slightly short of reaching the agility-type zombie, but he wasn’t done yet.
In that instant, he activated an ability he had never used since advancing, the evolved version of his flaming aura innate spell: Flaming Spirit Body.
[> Innate Spell – Flaming Spirit Body – Hell Flames Variant <]
As mages breakthrough new realms, their innate spells evolves, the integrating new runes which are constructed always correspond with their original abilities or the old innate ability of the previous realm.
This allowed the upgraded versions to coexist with their previous forms, but Alec had rarely used his fire innate spells.
Even his earth-based innate spell which had evolved still remained unused, yet he preferred sticking to the older version, never seeing the need to test the new one.
Still, one thing remained certain, no matter how far he progressed, his innate runes would continue to grow with him.
Because despite the fact that the old innate spells might be slightly weaker than those obtained at higher ranks, they still scaled with the caster’s level.
If a Tier 5 mage used an innate spell they had acquired in the Tier 2 realm, its power would still match their Tier 5 strength, though it would enter a cool down period afterward.
That was the nature of innate spells, they could be casted instantly with minimal mana consumption, but in exchange, they had cool downs.
This was why almost all knight spells had cool downs as well; it was all because knight struggled to obtain mid-rank Shadow elemental spells, he relied heavily on his innate abilities, fortunately, Alec’s Fire innate spell cool downs weren’t as restrictive as others’.
However, the real advantage of Alec’s Flaming Spirit Body was that it didn’t function like traditional innate spells.
It didn’t have a set cool down, instead, it would only extinguish if he ran out of mana, was hit by an extremely powerful water-based spell way stronger than him, or if he chose to cancel it himself.
As Alec activated Flaming Spirit Body mid-flight, it felt as if his entire body transitioned into another state, the edges of his muscles ignited with dark, eerie flames, and even his hair rippled like black fire in the wind as I was blazing with black flames.
He hadn’t activated this ability to enhance his attack power, his goal was purely defensive.
He needed to counter the Tier 7 zombie’s toxic green flames, his red flames provided fire resistance, but they couldn’t neutralize foreign fire. That’s why he had chosen the black flames, which had the ability capable of not only devouring fire but consuming it as fuel.
For Alec, the black flames were his best countermeasure.
With precision, he used his left thumb to push the hilt of his Changdao slightly out of its scabbard, the moment the blade began to slide free, his right hand was already in position.
In a seamless motion, he gripped the weapon and launched an upward slash, meeting the zombie’s downward cleave head-on.
A single, decisive motion.
His Changdao, wreathed in black flames, surged upward to clash against the agility-type zombie’s massive bladed arm, despite his disadvantaged position, Alec’s attack carried the force of pure, unwavering determination.
Clank! Boom!
Two blades clashed, followed by a violent explosion, one side crackling with eerie, toxic green flames, the other engulfed in dark, consuming fire. The two forces collided relentlessly.
The Tier 7 zombie narrowed its eyes at Alec, though it tried to mask its surprise, but the slight furrow in its brow betrayed its shock.
Alec hadn’t been sent flying like it had expected.

Alec gritted his teeth, gripping his Changdao with both hands, his muscles stretched to their limit, veins bulging from the strain, this was the first time he truly felt grateful for having a physique comparable to a peak Tier 6 mage.
The agility-type zombie, realizing its mistake, stopped underestimating him, with a cold glare, it increased its strength.
Alec’s arms began to tremble as his blade was forced dangerously close to his body, any further movement, and his left shoulder would be cleaved clean off.
But just as the zombie pressed its advantage, it sensed another attack coming from its right. Reacting instantly, it stretched out its free left hand.
Crackle!
A lightning bolt streaked through the air, only to be caught mid-flight by the zombie’s bare palm which moved like a blur.
A flicker of irritation crossed its face as it realized who had interfered, with a snarl, it clenched its fist, attempting to crush the bolt.
But the moment it did, the electricity burst apart, sending sharp currents jolting through its hand, the sudden pain forced it to loosen its grip as its hand was feeling slightly numb, momentarily it was reducing the pressure on Alec.
Seizing the opportunity, Alec swiftly shifted his blade to the side, causing the zombie’s massive bladed arm to slide off the weapon, leaving it open for attack, without a second thought, Alec lunged.
Bang!
He sent his Changdao flying after reinforcing it with Qi, as the weapon shot forward with unnatural speed.
The zombie, which was caught off guard, barely had time to react as the blade pierced its eye, causing a guttural groan of pain escape its mouth.
But Alec wasn’t done.
A blood-red chain was connected to the hilt of his Changdao all the way to his right hand, snapped taut.
With a fierce yank, Alec twisted the blade out, ripping the eye clean out.
The mutated zombie let out a shriek of pain, it had never expected to suffer such a critical injury so quickly in the fight, but while it was still processing what had happened, Alec wasn’t giving it a chance to recover.
He was going to exploit this opening that has been granted due to the underestimating the zombie placed on him, he was going to follow up attack in combos until the agility-type zombie was dead.
Small burst of flames ignited beneath his feet as he kicked forward, closing the distance between him and the retreating Tier 7 zombie.
But then, the zombie realized something after a while, it couldn’t move any more nor could it retreat.
A crushing force constricted its body, tightening around its limbs like invisible chains, as if something was trying to tear it apart from multiple angles.
Panic flickered in its remaining eye, just then, Alec was already upon it, his Changdao gripped tightly in both hands, aiming straight for the zombie’s chest.
In that instant, the creature finally understood its predicament, it had been boxed in, and death was staring it in the face so closely.
Alec was coming from the front, his Changdao gleaming with lethal intent. To its left, Oni swung his scythe horizontally, aiming to hook the zombie at the waist. On the right, sizzling lightning crackled as Tempest Butcher materialized, preparing to fire another bolt of electricity.
And then there was the real threat, the reason its movements, which was an agility zombie main asset had been restricted in the first place.
On the ground below, Hive Queen stood on all eight bladed legs of hers with a wicked smile, her fingers shimmering with nearly invisible web strings.
Those threads connected to countless of her ‘children,’ who had spread out in formation which was functioning to ensnare the agility type Tier 7 zombie in an intricate web of death.
“Die, you bastard!” Alec roared as he swung his blade downward.
A scorching wave of black flames erupted from his Changdao, slicing through the air with terrifying intensity, ready to cleave the Tier 7 zombie in two.
