The Golem Mage - Chapter 798
Chapter 798: Head count
The two remaining zombies trembled as they stared at the mage before them, their instincts screamed at them to lunge forward, to sink their teeth into him, to obey the primal urge that drove all lower-level zombies toward the living.
But unlike mindless undead, these two had evolved beyond mere hunger, at higher realms, certain zombies awakened consciousness and intelligence and with it, the fear of true death.
Unlike their lower-tier counterparts, who threw themselves at prey without hesitation, these two understood that if they fell here, there would be no coming back, this was the difference between them and the normal undead skeletons that embrace with faith.
Yet, hesitation would not save them, as Brandon had no intention of waiting.

Brandon’s fingers moved rapidly through a series of intricate hand signs, and the sand that had burst apart earlier from the sand cone spell now responded to his command, rising from the ground and wrapping around the zombies joints, dragging them downward.
The more they struggled, the faster they sank, as if the very earth beneath them had transformed into a bottomless pit of quicksand.
Their muffled growls faded as they vanished beneath the surface, Brandon brought his hands together once more, sealing their fate.
[> Mid-Tier Spell – Sand Crush <]
A powerful force pressed downward, causing the ground to cave slightly, as a few specks of dark, foul blood seeped up from the compressed sand, the only sign that the creatures had been obliterated under immense pressure.
The onlookers, many of whom had been watching Brandon closely, could only feel an increasing sense of despair.
The Gordon Clan’s luck of getting talents seems almost unfair to them, as this was another junior from the younger generation that was capable of dominating the mid-rank battlefield level, and all this thought just made them wonder if the Gordons would still dominate them this generation.

Meanwhile, Alec and his two Tier 6 Golems had finally entered the battlefield range where the Tier 7 clash was unfolding.
“Alec, what are you doing here?! Are you trying to get yourself killed? Your old man would never forgive me if anything happened to you, you do know that, right?” The Third Elder shouted at the top of his lungs as Alec finally came to a stop.
Alec, who had been surveying the battlefield, assessing the chaos of zombies and mages clashing, was caught off guard by the elder’s outburst. He turned back with a smirk.
“You don’t need to worry so much, old Third. I’m not here to get myself killed. And you really shouldn’t stress yourself out, as I might be needing your help, along with Old Fourth’s, if my plan doesn’t work.” Alec replied casually, speaking to the Third Elder as if they were long-time buddies.
“Old Third? Tch! You brat, you’re fifty years too early to be calling me that! And what the hell is high blood pressure? Don’t pile more stress on me!” The Third Elder sneered, clearly exasperated.
Out of the fifteen high-rank human mages on the battlefield, five had already been slain, and three more were on the verge of turning, infected and barely holding on as they fought off their attackers, that left only seven human mages still capable of fighting.
Among them was a mage from the Coral Clan, who had been given a Tier 6 healing pill by the fourth elder, the pill had miraculously stabilized the infection, allowing him to keep fighting without restraint.
In fact, on the high-rank battlefield, he was the most reckless of them all, as he had realized that the pill worked like an antibody, suppressing the zombie virus, and, no matter how many additional wounds he sustained, the infection didn’t flare up.
Instead, it gathered in his right arm, the original point of his first bite. Now, his entire right hand was pitch black, with green veins pulsating beneath the skin as the virus grew.
It was as if the medicine had locked the virus into dormancy within that limb, preventing it from spreading beyond his elbow.
But there was a catch.
Because he was still actively fighting and continuously getting wounded, the virus that had been suppressed in his right hand had grown stronger, much stronger.
Even he could feel it. He knew that the moment the healing pill’s effect wore off, the virus would explode through his system instantly.
The now much stronger virus would be able to kill him in an instant before he even had the chance to muster any mana to protect himself, the only way to delay this inevitable fate was to get another healing pill to extend his survival time.
However, given how much stronger the infection had become, he had a grim premonition, it was unlikely that a second healing pill would be as effective as the first.
And that was why he fought so recklessly, without restraint or hesitation. In his mind, he was already dead, so he might as well go out with a bang, as for the remaining six high-rank human mages, two hailed from City Hall, Alistair and Marcus.
Two others were from the Gordons Clan, the Third and Fourth Elders, the fifth was from the Darkbliss Clan, none other than its patriarch.

And the last was a mage named Orion, from the newly arrived Aegisborn Clan, which had recently settled in Estonia City.
The Aegisborn Clan was known for its focus on defensive techniques, and that was the only reason Orion had managed to survive this long.
On the zombie side, twenty-six Tier 7 zombies had been led into battle by the Peak Tier 7 strength-type zombie.
Later, the Peak Tier 7 agility-type zombie joined in as well, but these two were currently being held off by the Darkbliss Patriarch and the Fourth Elder of the Gordons Clan.
So far, ten Tier 7 mutated zombies had been slain, four of those kills belonged to the Third Elder of the Gordons Clan, he had taken down the first two that engaged him, then helped finish off one of the zombies that had been fighting the Coral Clan mage.
His final kill had been a hunter-type zombie that blocked his path when he tried to rush to Alec’s aid after spotting a Type 3 agility zombie heading toward him.
Now, however, he was running low on mana, no longer able to unleash full-scale attacks, he shifted to a more defensive strategy, focusing on keeping the two zombies he was facing occupied rather than finishing them off.
The Fourth Elder, like him, had slain the first two Tier 7 zombies that had attacked him, he had also helped the Third Elder finish off the second zombie that had been fighting the Coral Clan mage, bringing his total kill count to three.
Now, he was keeping the Peak Tier 7 agility-type zombie occupied, preventing it from running wild, as he knew that only a few mages present could match the agility-type zombie without eventually succumbing to infection the longer they fought.
Alistair had managed to kill two zombies after transforming into his dragon form, but at this moment, the young Dragonmir had toned down his approach, choosing to fight in his human form.
He was being pushed to the edge by two more zombies and had to conserve his mana since the battle was far from over, rather than recklessly exhausting his energy, he maintained a thin membrane of mana around his body to shield himself from the zombie virus while engaging in combat.
Meanwhile, the Darkbliss Patriarch had managed to slay one zombie despite being relentlessly pursued by the Peak Tier 7 strength-type zombie, however, this single kill had drawn the attention of two additional zombies, making it difficult for him to contribute significantly to the battle.
Of the twenty-eight high-rank zombies that had emerged, ten, ranging from low to high Tier 7 had already been slain, leaving only seventeen to face ten human mages, three of whom were on the verge of death.
At this moment:
Three zombies were attacking the Darkbliss Patriarch, two were engaged with the Third Elder, two more were fighting each of the three critically injured mages.
One battled the Fourth Elder, two were pressing Alistair, and one each was fighting Aegisborn Orion, Marcus, and the injured Coral Clan mage.
This was the specific battlefield Alec was now encroaching upon, preparing to tilt the scales in favour of the human mages.
