Chapter 842: Returning.
And the plan was that every mage who entered the second dimension would now be required to pay a gate fee of at least one corpse equivalent to their realm when they were coming back from their expenditure, and for every extra more corpses they brought back, the more student credits they would earn in return.

Old man Alderic had entered full business mode, as was planning on how he would exchange student credits for the surplus corpses the students brought back, which would then be used to conduct trade with the Gordons through Alec.

With that, the logistics department could stock more pills to be sold back to the students and instructors strictly in exchange for student credits. In fact, everything he planned to receive from Alec would be converted into a credit-based transaction system.

To further benefit the academy, he intended to raise the exchange rate for magic crystals to student credits or any other currency, no matter how much students protested, the allure of high-quality pills would override their complaints.

That way, the logistics department would profit without doing much more than acting as a middleman from both sides.

Since Alec was providing more pills than expected, Alderic realized the Logistics department would not only profit from selling the surplus but also from the adjusted exchange rates, and with many of the academy’s powerhouses in the academy now, he knew it wouldn’t be long before they sold out again.

That only solidified his resolve to form a long-term partnership with the Gordons, unaware that the true mastermind behind it all the pills manufacturing was Alec himself.

But how could he even suspect Alec? He already believed the Gordons clan had many specialized profession type of mages within its ranks.

The idea that Alec alone was orchestrating it all never crossed his mind, and while Alderic was busy building a profit-making system, he was unknowingly creating a corpse supply line that saved Alec the effort of gathering them himself.

After all the scheming and planning, Alderic finally leaned back, content for now, as he cozied up with the space ring once more, using his mental energy to admire the contents inside like a child with a newfound treasure.

At the edge of the logistics shop, two of his assistants exchanged stunned looks, silently wondering how many more times their boss would shock them like this with his facial expression.

“What are you looking at?” Old man Alderic muttered as he caught them peeking at him, he then proceeded to waved his hand, as the ground trembled, then opened beneath the two shopkeepers, swallowing them whole.

“No! Spare us!” they screamed, but it was too late. A moment later, they were outside the shop, buried in the earth up to their necks, with the harsh double suns of the second dimension beating down on their exposed heads.

Passing mages shivered at the sight, as they all realised that Old man Alderic had executed his favourite punishment once again.

–

Days went by, and it was finally time for the first-year students of the War God Mage Academy to return from their holidays.

This time, two Tier 4 mages were the ones who stood at the academy gates, tasked with verifying the status of returning First years students.

But unlike the start of the year, when few seniors actually cared about the new students, now there was genuine excitement.

Everyone was eager to catch a glimpse of the first-year War God Mage team, the same team that had gone all the way to the capital and defeated every top academy’s first-year team and put the name of the War God Mage Academy out there again.

Though they weren’t crowned champions, but everyone knew who the true victors were.

And the buzz wasn’t just about their past victory in the capital, it was because all eleven members of that team had now been promoted to second-year status, and more impressively, they’d all earned places in the Earth Ranking of the War God Mage Academy.

The academy itself followed three primary rankings, aligned with the three major cultivation tiers seen most often in the academy apart from the military ranks, which all the students of the War God Mage Academy obeyed; these were the Human Ranking, the Earth Ranking, and the Heaven Ranking.

The Human Ranking consisted of Tier 1 to Tier 3 mages, determining who was the top low-rank cultivator in the academy.

Back when Alec was first admitted to the War God Mage Academy and was In the low rank realm, he spent most of his time either in class or at his master’s peak.

He hadn’t paid any attention to rankings, unbeknownst to him, Alec never even realized that he ranked low, though there were still others below him, including some of the Gordons clan members who followed him.

But no one ever challenged him to a Human Ranking duel, most avoided crossing paths with him entirely, even the number one mage in the Human Ranking feared Alec and was quietly thankful that Alec showed no interest in such rankings.

The Earth and Heaven Rankings, on the other hand, outlined the power structure among mid-rank and high-rank mages in the academy, respectively, the real reason why so many were now eager to see Alec and his team was that the long-stagnant Earth Ranking had finally been updated, and all eleven top spots were now occupied by Alec and the mages that was part of the team, with Alec himself sitting at the number one spot.

Many senior students who had just returned were itching to challenge them, especially those who had only heard stories of Alec’s feats without really seeing them first-hand, some seniors were just waiting to use their status to force duels, but even after waiting around, neither Alec nor any of the Gordons clan members accompanying him appeared.

However, it wasn’t long before a group of bored senior students, who had just returned to the academy and were lounging near the open gate, caught sight of two familiar figures, they had instantly recognized them thanks to the glowing stone-etched portraits of Alec and his team scattered around the academy due to their contribution in the capital, they were all called members of the elite squad by the First years so that was the name etched in the portrait along with the images.

The two who were sighted just happened to be Pale Zero and Kate Colossus.

There were four seniors in total, and three burst out laughing as they stood from the stones they’d been resting on and started slowly walking into the middle of the road, watching as Pale and Kate presented their student badges to the mages stationed at the gate.

The mages scanned the badges with their verification devices, which let out a confirming ding, proving that Pale and Kate were indeed official students of the War God Mage Academy.

But something left many onlookers perplexed, Pale’s student identity badge, which he was prominently displaying on his chest, was no longer that of a commander, in fact, it wasn’t even the badge of a captain.

Instead, it was the insignia of a major, gleaming in burgundy as he wore it with casual ease.

The strongest of the four mages who had stepped forward to block their path was only a Peak Tier 5 Mage, and he began to frown as his eyes caught the colour of Pale’s badge.

“What the hell? According to the info you got to me, this guy was supposed to be one of the weakest, why is he having the colours of a major then?” he muttered towards the fourth who was dragging his legs behind.

“There’s no way he’s already in the Tier 6 realm, the gap between mid-rank realms isn’t that easy to cross, he must’ve been granted a ton of merit points by the academy as a reward, just like how it was claimed Alec got a captain’s rank before even stepping into the Tier 5 realm.” One of them reasoned.

They kept their eyes fixed on Pale and Kate, who had just finished the identification process and were now strolling past the stunned crowd into the academy.

“He might actually be a Tier 6 mage,” the last one who was questioned earlier and was responsible for getting the information suddenly said.

That statement made the others whip their heads around toward him, their expressions darkening, it was clear none of them liked the sound of that possibility.
