THE HEIRESS VOW - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: High Stakes Rescue
The dimly lit room buzzed with tension. Ava paced back and forth, her mind racing with every possible outcome of the plan they were about to execute. Liam, leaning against the table scattered with maps and blueprints, watched her intently.
“We need to go now, Ava,” Liam said, his voice steady yet urgent.
Ava stopped and looked at him, her eyes filled with determination. “I know, but if we miss even one detail, we could lose him. Max is depending on us.”
Liam nodded, unfolding the blueprint of the old warehouse where Max was being held. “We’ve gone over this a hundred times. We stick to the plan. In and out. No unnecessary risks.”
Ava took a deep breath and nodded. She knew Liam was right, but the fear of losing Max gnawed at her insides. She couldn’t let it paralyze her. “Let’s do this.”
The night was eerily silent as they approached the warehouse. The air was thick with the scent of rain and gasoline. Liam held up a hand, signaling Ava to stop. He peered around the corner, spotting two guards patrolling the entrance.
“We need a distraction,” he whispered.
Ava nodded, reaching into her bag and pulling out a small device. “This should do the trick.” She pressed a button, and a series of small explosions erupted on the far side of the building. The guards, startled, ran towards the noise.
“Now!” Liam urged.
They sprinted to the entrance, slipping inside unnoticed. The interior of the warehouse was a labyrinth of crates and machinery. They moved stealthily, guided by the faint sounds of Max’s muffled cries.
“He’s close,” Ava whispered, her heart pounding in her chest. “This way.”
As they rounded a corner, they spotted Max, tied to a chair, his face bruised and bloodied. Ava’s breath hitched at the sight, but she forced herself to stay focused.
“Max!” she whispered urgently, rushing to his side. She began untying the ropes, her fingers trembling.
Liam kept watch, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of danger. “We need to move fast. They’ll be back any minute.”
Just as Ava freed Max’s hands, the sound of footsteps echoed through the warehouse. “We’ve been spotted!” Liam hissed.
Ava helped Max to his feet, supporting his weight as they hurried towards the exit. The footsteps grew louder, closer. Suddenly, a group of men appeared, blocking their path.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” a cold, familiar voice sneered.
Ava’s blood ran cold. Henry. He stepped forward, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “Did you really think you could get away with this?”
Liam stepped protectively in front of Ava and Max. “Let us go, Henry.”
Henry chuckled. “Oh, I don’t think so. You see, I’ve been planning this for a long time. Your little rescue mission just sped things up.”
Ava’s mind raced. “What are you talking about, Henry?”
Henry’s eyes gleamed with malice. “You really have no idea, do you? While you’ve been busy playing hero, I’ve been setting up my takeover. By the time the sun rises, your family’s assets will be mine.”
Ava’s heart sank. She had been so focused on rescuing Max, she hadn’t seen the bigger picture. “You won’t get away with this.”
“Oh, but I already have,” Henry said, signaling his men to advance.
Liam lunged forward, engaging Henry’s men in a fierce fight. Ava grabbed Max’s arm, pulling him towards a side exit. “Come on, we have to go!”
As they burst through the door, they found themselves surrounded by more of Henry’s men. Ava’s eyes darted around, searching for an escape route, but there was none.
Henry stepped out, laughing. “Game over, Ava. You lose.”
Ava stood her ground, her eyes blazing with defiance. “This isn’t over, Henry.”
“Oh, but it is,” Henry said, pulling out a gun and aiming it at them. “Any last words?”
Ava’s mind raced. There had to be a way out. She couldn’t let it end like this. Then, she spotted itâa stack of barrels marked ‘flammable’ just a few feet away.

“Liam,” she whispered, barely moving her lips. “The barrels.”
Liam’s eyes flicked to the barrels, understanding instantly. “Get ready to run,” he whispered back.
Henry cocked the gun, but before he could pull the trigger, Ava and Liam dove to the side, knocking over the barrels. The liquid inside spilled out, and Liam ignited it with a spark from his watch.
The explosion rocked the warehouse, sending flames and debris everywhere. In the chaos, Ava grabbed Max and Liam’s hand, and they ran, sprinting through the maze of fire and smoke.
They burst out of the warehouse, coughing and covered in soot, but alive. Ava looked back at the inferno, her heart pounding. They had escaped, but just barely. And Henry’s words echoed in her mind. This was far from over.
As they stumbled into the night, Ava knew they had only won a small battle. The war was just beginning, and Henry’s plans for her family were still in motion. But for now, they had Max, and that was a victory she would hold onto.
Suddenly, headlights flooded the alleyway, and Ava squinted to see a group of cars pulling up. Her breath caught in her throat as Henry’s men emerged, surrounding them once again.
“Did you really think it would be that easy?” Henry’s voice called out from the darkness.
Liam stepped forward, his jaw set in determination. “We’re not giving up, Henry.”
Henry smirked, his gun aimed at them once more. “I didn’t think you would.”
Ava tightened her grip on Max, her mind racing. They were outnumbered, outgunned, but she refused to give up hope.
