THE HEIRESS VOW - Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Legacy Under Siege
Ava’s footsteps echoed through the grand, empty hallways of her ancestral estate. Moonlight streamed through the tall windows, casting ghostly shadows on the marble floor. She paused at the entrance of the drawing-room, taking a deep breath before pushing the door open. The familiar scent of aged wood and old books greeted her, stirring memories of happier times.
Inside, a figure stood by the fireplace, their back turned to her. The flickering flames cast a sinister glow on the room’s ornate furnishings. Ava’s eyes narrowed as she recognized the silhouette.
“So, you finally decided to show yourself,” Ava said, her voice steady despite the anger boiling within her.
The figure turned, revealing a man with cold, calculating eyes. “Hello, Ava,” he said, his tone mocking. “I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
Ava clenched her fists, her mind racing back to the days when this man, Ethan, had been a trusted family friend. Now, he was the embodiment of betrayal. “What do you want, Ethan?”
Ethan smirked, stepping closer. “Isn’t it obvious? I want what’s rightfully mine. The family business, the legacyâeverything your father stole from me.”
Ava’s jaw tightened. “My father didn’t steal anything from you. You were the one who betrayed us, remember?”
“Details,” Ethan waved dismissively. “The point is, I’ve come to claim what’s mine. And I won’t let anyone stand in my way.”
“You’ll have to go through me first,” Ava shot back, her voice laced with determination.
Ethan’s smile widened. “I was hoping you’d say that. It will make this so much more satisfying.”
The tension in the room was palpable. Ava could feel her heart pounding in her chest, but she refused to back down. “You’re not going to win, Ethan. I’ll make sure of that.”
Ethan laughed, a sound that sent chills down Ava’s spine. “We’ll see about that. But for now, I have a little surprise for you.” He snapped his fingers, and the door behind Ava creaked open.
She turned to see several figures entering the roomâher allies, friends she had trusted with her life. They looked at her with blank expressions, their eyes glazed over.
“What have you done to them?” Ava demanded, her voice rising.
Ethan shrugged. “A simple mind control spell. They’re completely under my command now. And they’ll do whatever I say.”
Ava’s heart sank. She had hoped to gather her allies for a final showdown against Ethan, but now it seemed he had turned them against her. She glanced at her friends, searching for any sign of resistance, but found none.
“You monster,” she hissed, turning back to Ethan.
“Such harsh words, Ava,” Ethan said, feigning hurt. “But I suppose I deserve them. After all, I did plan this for years.”
Ava’s mind raced, trying to come up with a plan. She needed to break the spell on her friends and find a way to stop Ethan. But how?
Ethan seemed to read her thoughts. “Don’t bother trying to free them. The spell is too strong. You’d be wasting your time.”
“Why are you doing this, Ethan?” Ava asked, desperation creeping into her voice. “We used to be friends. Why did you turn against us?”
Ethan’s expression hardened. “Because your father ruined my life. He took everything from meâmy family, my future. And now, I’m going to take everything from you.”
Ava felt a pang of guilt. She had never known the full extent of her father’s actions, but it was clear that they had caused Ethan immense pain. Still, she couldn’t let him destroy everything her family had built.
“There’s still a chance to end this peacefully,” Ava said, trying to reason with him. “We can find a way to make things right.”
Ethan’s eyes flashed with anger. “It’s too late for that. The only way this ends is with your defeat.”
Ava took a step back, her mind racing. She needed to find a way to turn the tide in her favor. But before she could act, Ethan snapped his fingers again, and her friends lunged at her.
She dodged their attacks, her heart pounding. She couldn’t fight themâthey were her friends, her allies. She needed to find another way.
As she evaded their strikes, she noticed a small, ornate box on the mantelpiece. It was glowing faintly, and Ava felt a strange pull towards it. Could it be the source of the mind control spell?
With a burst of determination, Ava lunged for the box, but Ethan intercepted her, grabbing her wrist. “Not so fast,” he snarled.
Ava struggled against his grip, but he was too strong. She glanced at the box, so close yet so far. She needed to break free, but how?

“Give up, Ava,” Ethan said, his voice cold. “You can’t win.”
But Ava refused to give up. Summoning all her strength, she twisted her wrist, breaking free from Ethan’s grasp. She grabbed the box and threw it to the ground, shattering it.
A blinding light filled the room, and Ava’s friends collapsed to the floor, freed from the spell. Ethan let out a furious roar, his eyes blazing with hatred.
“You’ll pay for that,” he spat, lunging at her.
Ava braced herself, ready to fight, but her friends, now free from the spell, intervened, holding Ethan back. “It’s over, Ethan,” Ava said, her voice steady. “You’ve lost.”
Ethan struggled against their grip, his face contorted with rage. “This isn’t over, Ava. I’ll find another way. I’ll make you all pay.”
As her friends restrained Ethan, Ava felt a mix of relief and fear. They had won this battle, but the war was far from over. Ethan’s words echoed in her mind, a grim reminder of the danger that still loomed.
Ava turned to her friends, who were slowly recovering from the spell. “Are you all okay?” she asked, concern evident in her voice.
They nodded, looking shaken but determined. “We’re with you, Ava,” one of them said. “We’ll fight this together.”
Ava felt a surge of gratitude and resolve. She knew the road ahead would be difficult, but she wasn’t alone. Together, they would face whatever challenges came their way.
But as they prepared to leave the room, a loud crash echoed through the estate, followed by the sound of footsteps approaching. Ava’s heart skipped a beat. What now?
The door burst open, revealing more of Ethan’s followers, armed and ready for battle. Ava and her friends exchanged determined glances, bracing themselves for the fight of their lives.
