THE HEIRESS VOW - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: The Showdown
Ava crouched behind a fallen column, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The flickering light reflected off her sweat-drenched face, illuminating the fierce determination in her eyes. She clutched a dagger, its blade stained from the recent skirmish.
“Liam, we need to move,” she whispered urgently, her voice barely audible over the distant sounds of combat.
Liam, positioned beside her, nodded grimly. His eyes scanned the chaotic scene, taking in the enemy’s movements. “They’ve got reinforcements. We need to break through their lines, or we’ll be trapped.”
Ava’s grip tightened on the dagger. “This is our home. We can’t let them take it.”
Liam’s hand briefly touched hers, a silent promise of solidarity. “We won’t.”
Ava peeked around the column, spotting a gap in the enemy’s defenses. “There,” she pointed. “If we can get through there, we might have a chance.”
Liam followed her gaze. “It’s risky, but it’s our best shot.”
They exchanged a determined look before springing into action. They moved swiftly, their bodies low to the ground, weaving through the debris. The sounds of clashing weapons and shouted orders grew louder as they neared the enemy lines.
Suddenly, a figure stepped into their path. Ava’s heart leapt into her throat as she recognized the imposing silhouette of Henry, the merciless leader of the enemy forces. His eyes gleamed with malice as he raised his sword.
“Ava, Liam,” he sneered. “Trying to run, are we?”
Ava’s pulse quickened. “We’re not running,” she retorted, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her insides. “We’re fighting for what’s ours.”
Henry laughed, a harsh, grating sound. “Foolish girl. This estate belongs to me now.”
Without warning, Henry lunged. Ava parried his blow, her dagger clashing against his sword with a resounding clang. Sparks flew as they traded strikes, each one more desperate than the last. Liam circled around, searching for an opening.
“Get behind him!” Ava shouted, blocking another vicious swing.
Liam darted forward, aiming a powerful kick at Henry’s side. The force of the blow sent Henry staggering, but he quickly recovered, his eyes burning with fury.
“You’ll pay for that,” Henry growled, turning his attention to Liam.
Ava seized the opportunity, her movements fluid and precise. She struck at Henry’s unguarded back, the dagger sinking into flesh. Henry roared in pain, swinging wildly as he tried to dislodge the blade.
Liam took advantage of Henry’s distraction, landing a series of rapid punches. Henry’s defenses crumbled, and with one final, coordinated effort, Ava and Liam brought him to his knees.
As Henry fell, the enemy forces wavered, their leader’s defeat sowing confusion and fear. Ava and Liam pressed their advantage, rallying their allies and pushing the invaders back.
For a moment, it seemed like victory was within reach. Ava’s heart soared with hope as the remaining enemies began to retreat. But then, a chilling voice echoed through the courtyard.
“You may have won this battle,” the voice said, “but the war is far from over.”
Ava turned, her eyes widening in shock as a new figure stepped into the light. Clad in dark armor, the figure exuded an aura of menace. Ava’s breath caught in her throat as she recognized the face beneath the helmetâ Lucas.
“Lucas,” she whispered, disbelief and betrayal warring within her.
Lucas smirked, his eyes cold and calculating. “Surprised to see me?”
Ava’s mind raced, memories of their shared childhood flooding back. “Why?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Why would you do this?”
Lucas’s expression hardened. “You always were the favored one, the chosen heir. I was cast aside, forgotten. But now, it’s my turn to claim what should have been mine.”
Liam stepped forward, his fists clenched. “This isn’t the way, Lucas.”
Lucas’s eyes flicked to Liam, a sneer curling his lips. “Stay out of this, Liam. This is between me and Ava.”
Ava’s heart ached with the weight of her brother’s betrayal. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay focused. “Lucas, we can find another way. We don’t have to be enemies.”
Lucas’s laugh was bitter. “It’s too late for that, Ava. You’ve already lost.”

With a swift motion, Lucas drew his sword, its blade gleaming ominously in the firelight. Ava and Liam braced themselves, knowing that the real battle had just begun.
As Lucas and Ava clashed, their movements a dance of pain and anger, Ava discovered a strength she never knew she possessed. Each strike, each parry, was fueled by a determination to reclaim her legacy and protect those she loved.
But Lucas was relentless, his attacks fueled by years of resentment and jealousy. Just when it seemed like Ava might gain the upper hand, Lucas unleashed a devastating secret.
“You think you’re fighting for the estate,” he taunted, his eyes glinting with malice. “But you’re wrong. The real power lies beneath it. Father never told you, did he?”
Ava’s mind reeled. “What are you talking about?”
Lucas’s smile was triumphant. “There’s a hidden chamber beneath the estate, filled with unimaginable power. And it’s mine for the taking.”
Ava’s heart pounded in her chest. If what Lucas said was true, the stakes were even higher than she had imagined. She couldn’t let him get to that power.
With renewed determination, Ava launched a fierce counterattack, driving Lucas back step by step. But just as victory seemed within reach, Lucas played his final card.
“Enough,” he snarled, his voice dripping with venom. “If I can’t have it, no one will.”
With a swift motion, Lucas triggered a hidden mechanism. The ground beneath them rumbled, cracks spreading across the courtyard as the estate began to collapse.
Ava’s eyes widened in horror. “Lucas, no!”
But it was too late. The estate was falling apart, and all they could do was try to escape the crumbling ruins.
Liam grabbed Ava’s hand, pulling her away from the danger. “We have to go, now!”
Ava glanced back, her heart breaking as she watched the ancestral estate, their home, fall to pieces. But there was no time to mourn. They had to survive.
